An American Ghost Story - Quite possibly the worst movie I've seen in years. The script and acting are of the quality you'd find in a soft core porno, except this movie has lame jump scares and horrible dialogue instead of boobs and #####. My time would've been better spent reading the Shark Pool. Stay away from this movie.
We Are What We Are - Now we're talkin'. What starts out as a slow, yet mesmerizing tale of a family of ritualistic cannibal hillbillies is made great by one of the best endings to a horror flick I've ever seen. It's unexpected, raw, offensive, yet totally fits perfectly and leaves you completely satisfied. The movie also has many "HOLY ####### #### DID THAT REALLY JUST HAPPEN" moments. ie:

Last Shift- It's mostly a jump-scare type which I don't generally care for, but I think in this case it worked. Starts a bit slow but gets going.
Stupid ending, but ya get that in low budget types like this I suppose. Worth a watch on netflix if you don't have anything particular picked out.

Saw The Visit --I figured out what the twist was going to be in this movie while watching the trailer and I was not disappointed. All and all had some creepy scenes--nothing more creepy than an old lady crawling around on all fours chasing you.. It would be an okay rental,, but not worth buying (like I did).
Goodnight Mommy--okay I will be fair to this movie, the trailer looked really good and I bought this movie for my wife for Christmas, but watching it after a day of drinking at a family Christmas party was not a good choice. It is subtitled and takes some concentration to follow what is going on. It is disturbing and shocking in a last ten minutes of Audition sort of way (If some of you get my obscure reference there). Don't know if it is a movie I would give a second watch to, but it may answer some of the questions I have if I did.

Just saw this last weekend and it was excellent. It is subtitled with no option for dubbing (I hate dubbing but those I saw it with would have chosen it if it was an option). Build is patient but worth it IMO. Among the best horror films of the year.
Also saw The Final Girls. Not scary but very amusing and a nice homage to 1980's slasher flicks.
And most critics did not like this one but I found Knock Knock to be very unnerving. IMO, this is the better Eli Roth film of the year (over The Green Inferno).
BTW, I brought this thread up looking for takes on Eden Lake. Have not seen but I got a recommendation from an unreliable source and wanted to see what the FFA take was. The mentions I've seen here are positive so I may squeeze it in this weekend.

For real???? I have kinda totally written off seeing this cause I thought the previews were stupid, but is it really worth a watch? I thought Zombie land was pretty damn good

Was pretty good. Not really horror but more of a psychological thriller. I'd say 6 out of 10.

Watched Extinction last night on Netflix.
Matthew Fox from Lost in a post zombie apocalypse world 9 years after the outbreak. It also appears there has been an ice age too because all the zombies are "supposedly" frozen and no longer a threat.
This was a well acted movie, but damn was it too long (almost 2 hours). It would have been so better if was about 25 minutes shorter.

I saw the trailer for this on my blue-ray copy of Insidious 3.
I will check it out eventually.

I thought it was pretty good. Well acted apocalypse story from the viewpoint of just a few people. Like just about all of these kinds of movies the ending was "meh", but well worth a watch.

Unfriended was the modern "Blair Witch Project" where it's a new kind of horror but sorta sucks, except I don't think anyone will try and duplicate/improve it cause it really has nowhere to go for improvement.

Saw it last night. 70 inch TV, surround sound, lights all off, by myself. Damn solid. Takes awhile but last 1/2 hour of movie is very, very unsettling. Did get up to check to see if all doors locked during the movie.

Saw a couple of movies recently.
Rare Exports: This is a Finnish import and has a similar flavor as Troll Hunter. If you liked that one, which I did, you'll probably like this one, which I did. Basic premise is Santa's ice tomb is discovered and of course some silly human types decide that unearthing him would be kind of neat. Also of course, they are wrong. Some creepy stuff happens and there is a big climax where the minions and humans square off and fight to the death. Some blood, a little gore, well drawn characters, and the acting is alright. Production was pitch perfect, imo, and I came away glad I watched. It's a fun movie for 12 years old and up. 7/10
Crimson Peak: What a let down. With the talent involved I expected more and frankly came away less than impressed. It stars Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain and Mia Wasikowska(Alice in Wonderland) and it was written and directed by Guillermo Del Toro. The creeps were few, the drama was of the been there done that variety and the suspense, what little there was, was muted by the telegraphed delivery of any and all potential plot twists. The screenplay was just too elemntary and paint by numbers and it felt like Del Toro mailed in the direction. Some nice set designs so it was pretty to look at but other than that it was sotr of meh. 4/10

Agreed on Crimson Peak that movie was just boring. It was all I could do to stay awake.

Saw The Hangman last night on On-Demand.
This movie got some pretty terrible reviews and so I had low expectations, but the idea behind the movie was interesting.
Basic plot--killer picks out victims (families) in the long term parking at the airport,, breaks in their car and uses their GPS to find out their home address--breaks in their house, makes it look like a burglary. When the family comes home they think it is a burglary, but the guy is still up in their attic and has planted little cameras all over the house and then in the middle of the night comes down and does a lot of disgusting things to them.
It was really creepy, takes a lot of suspension of reality to believe they wouldn't see the little cameras, but disturbing and well acted. My daughters (especially the one with the attic entrance in her room) were very freaked out.

watched The Witch and The Boy this weekend
I liked the Witch. Sort of knew what I was getting into so I wasn't let down. Not really a horror felt more like a mystery & the acting was pretty good. Would watch again 6.5/10
The boy was boring. I stopped paying attention 30 minutes in and started playing slither.io The film felt like a remake of Housebound. Would not watch again

looks like a mess but probably worth a watch

Seriously? Why. The Ring was a excellent. The sequel was pure hot garbage. The Grudge was meh to begin with.

Saw Green Room last night and really enjoyed it. Not sure I would call it horror, more of an escape thriller, but it had some decent gore and some very tense moments.
