Yea, I just checked and its not listed as horror on IMDB, but I guess I lump everything that Park Chan-Wook directs as having an air of horror to it in the end...

It's an excellent comedy.

Here are some random ones I really like and have recommended to others that I had (sometimes in genre buckets) on my piece of paper. Sorry if any of these were taken and I missed it on the list, right @IvanKaramazov ?

Found Footage: Grave Encounters, Hell House LLC, The Visit, Lake Mungo, The Bay, Trollhunter, Host
Messed up: The Loved Ones, Teeth, Inside, Raw, Frontiers
Goofy fun: Deadstream, Dead Snow (1 and 2), Bubba Ho-Tep, Drag Me to Hell, SLither
Underrated 80s/90s: New Nightmare, Serpent and the Rainbow, People Under the Stairs

Then just random thoughts: The Host, Triangle, Orphan, Final Destinations, The Innkeepers, Cure, Dark Water, Silver Bullet, Ginger Snaps, Splinter, Smile, and Bodies Bodies Bodies

This list just shows how each of us define genres differently. The goal of a horror movie in my opinion is to scare the **** out of me. To make me not want to go to bed. To not sleep with the lights off. To make me nervous to be at home alone. Which I why I put the Conjuring at #1. Couldn't sleep for a couple of days. Honestly I should have put the The Strangers higher based on this. It's creepy to think someone is quietly walking around your house while you go about your business. Alien, Jaws, The Shining ... all super high quality movies so I put them in to check the box. They just don't scare me at all.

It might be closer to thriller but I'd have had Triangle on my list.

I may have tried to squeeze Ex Machina past the judges too.

Lastly, Devil's Backbone is one I remember liking.
I inquired about Ex Machina and was denied. Would have made my Top 40 otherwise
definitely not horror, but agree it’s awesome
I'm not going to die on the hill but I wouldn't say "definitely". Ava isn't all that different from Hannibal lecter in that she's captive until she finds a willing accomplice that she can manipulate and then breaks free to wreak havoc on the world.

As I get older I put a high premium on movies that get a visceral reaction from me, make me laugh, or surprise me. Since most horror movies don't scare me, my favorites are any that check off multiple boxes, even it's mostly in the surprise and laugh department like Cabin in the Woods.

Should do the same thing for horror novels.

What made me think of it was although Exorcist made top 5, I think it would be #1 of books.

Similarly, did Hellraiser make the list? Need to put complete list in OP. :bag: Never mind, I see the list now.

Good post, but experiences too. Jaws did scare the hell out of me when I was 7 and my sister made me watch it in the theater, rememberable, but not so much now lol.

I’d probably argue it’s not horror, but based on what was allowed in I’m surprised Funny Games didn’t make the top 200. I’ve only seen the American remake but that’s one that really stuck with me. Especially the realism (minus the end).

Skinarimlick sounds like a movie I’d like to watch.

I added it to my list awhile back sounds like it’s pretty polarizing (as in most people seem to hate it)

I’ll probably get baked and give it a shot

The only way to watch this lool
I find it hard to believe anyone has ever watched the whole thing.
I did because of who(m)ever ranked it here.

I had nightmares of stepping legos for a week

Coherence
This is a gem imo
Is this the one with the comet? Tried watching it with the wife one and she complained it was too much talking, might give it another shot
Yeah. It's a lower budget movie like Primer, but is well done.

Did your wife enjoy Castaway?

God that movie sucks so bad.

#2 - The Shining

Jack Torrance accepts a caretaker job at the Overlook Hotel, where he, along with his wife Wendy and their son Danny, must live isolated from the rest of the world for the winter. But they aren't prepared for the madness that lurks within.

Well, I was wrong @KarmaPolice !
