Somebody has to get things started today...
West Virginia -2.5
I think people are overreacting a bit to both Clemson's win against UAB (the five tallest guys from the FFA would have beat UAB that night) and West Virginia's loss to Marquette. WVU is a team that has beat UConn, Louisville, and Notre Dame in recent games; don't over think this.
OUTSTANDING POSTING.Today is the day to make your money early, and then sit back and enjoy watching some great games that are too risky to invest heavily in.
West Virginia is a Final Four Team from 2010 that is battle tested and veteran laden. Agree completely about Clemson recently playing/fresh in people's minds beating a UAB squad that proved the critics right about not deserving their bid. Get on this now, get on this heavy, and if you can contain yourself, enjoy today's games while preparing for tomorrow's slate. This is the moneymaker.
lumpy, I like your card for the most part. Agree on ODU, Mich St., Bucknell, Wofford, Gonzaga and Wisconsin.
I SHOULD like Butler, being the defending runner-up, but they don't seem like the same Team as last year, and you're going to see an overwhemingly partisan crowd there for ODU playing in DC. Bucknell is going to get a TON of fan support here tonight vs UConn...conference affiliation be damned, no one around here has any love at all for the Huskies. BYU and St John's are ripe to go down today missing key pieces. Kalin Lucas isn't going out in the 1st Round of his final tournament. Belmont is a nice story, but they have neither the Defense or the firepower to take down the Badgers.
I railed Penn State yesterday or the day before, but you get inside this matchup, and it favors the Lions from a personnel standpoint plus they are going to have the crowd behind them, in a big way...As an Alum, one thing I do know is that Penn State has a HUGE fan base in Arizona - it's one reason why they accept Fiesta Bowl bids over other comparable invitations. Plus the fans travel well, and this is the senior year of easily the best player in school history since Frank Brickowski. If you watch this one, you'll hear it - this is a Home Game for the Nittany Lions, and they are diverse and talented enough to take advantage of at least this favorable matchup.
Games to stay away from:
Kentucky/Princeton - young, immature and supremely athletic vs veteran deep and much smarter Tigers. Too much risk.
Louisville / Morehead St. - these Teams have crossed paths in the NCAA's many times, but Morehead has never had a player like Kenneth Faried, and this isn't a standout Louisville Team. I love betting Louisville/Pitino, and I'm not touching this one.
Vanderbilt/Richmond - I made money with both these Teams this Season, and I know them well. One is a tournament choker, the other an upset king. Whatever. This is one of the most even matchups in the 1st round. Watch it, but don't bet it.
Kansas St/Utah St. - Pullen and company exited the Big 12 Tourney early, you pull the plug on Pullen, and it's lights out for K-State. Utah St. has the guys to put the clamps on him.
Good Luck!!!
