These teams match up well. O/D matchups, common opponents, quality wins/losses. The one edge I see is the Seahawks horrible loss to the Cardinals.
Well they had little to play for and at the end of the day, Cardinals might have been the third best team in the NFC this year. Saints fans pointed to that game for some hope also, it didn't work.
Again on Manning prep. IMO you can't prepare for Seattle because their personnel is better than yours.
Sherman on D Thomas, Maxwell on Welker, Thurmond on Decker and two of the top five safeties in the league. They are going to have to blitz more and I think they will, but Seattle's D matches up well with Manning and crew.
On offense they are going to gash Denver with their style and wear them down IMO.
I think Wilson will also have a big game running, as Denver's D is nothing like the teams in the NFC west who are just superior sideline to sideline.
And for the record I make very few homer bets here, but I think they win this game in the 27/30-20 range. I'm actually surprised any 49ers fans would fade the Seahawks, I would have made the very same bets on the 49ers. I think they are the two best teams in the NFL.
DD- I respect your football thoughts but this post reads very much like a homer post.
How so? What in there do you disagree with? I'm ok with someone playing Denver, they are a great team with what I think is the greatest QB ever. I just love the match-ups here for Seattle and think they already played the best team today.
Cardinals were not the 3rd best team in the league - Carolina, Green Bay (with Rodgers), maybe New Orleans in addition to Seattle and SF.
At the time Seattle had everything to play for. A win wrapped up home field for them. That was also a home game were they also had their perfect home record at stake. Palmer threw up 4 INTs and they still couldn't put up more than 10 pts. Denver's run D is very near to Arizona's looking at ypc and although AZ has a better pass D, I think Seattle will struggle to take advantage of that (Harvin is a wildcard here). In fact, AZ's run D was the best Seattle faced all year, except for what they will face against Denver, again looking at YPC. I also don't see Wilson going crazy running all over them.
I also think you are writing off the most productive pass offense the league has ever seen (with help from the rules). I don't see Sherman playing man on him all gamee, especially with Denver's other big physical receivers. I agree that it's a hell of a match up, but I don't see the Hawks pass D completely shutting down Manning. This is a bigger, more physical group than New Orleans so I don't think the comparisons there mean much. Definitely a tougher game than anything Manning has seen this year.
Russell Wilson is the other unknown here. If the Seahawks can make Denver respect his passing at all, he's going to have a big day rushing. I'm just not sure if he'll be able to do that.
I'm not all over Denver here by any stretch. If the weather is anything but perfect, I'm likely going with the Seahawks. I just thought your writeup was a little over the top given the quality of the matchup.
