Hey everyone! Glad to be here!

I've been playing for a decade, and was a member here last year. This site it the bomb. Thought I'd delve into a specific query that only FFG could answer...

We play in a standard type leauge, where I am the commish; unfortunately, despite knowing and working with my leauge-mates for years, we had some collusion last season, and myself and most everyone else was

fed-up with the hijinks, so the result being this year, there are no trades allowed. We draft 9 starters (3wr) and a full nine back-ups in a 12 man leauge. Which is a lot of players, but I think it rewards planning at the draft, rather than having a good priority # at the mid-point of the season.

My question is: Since this is virgin ground for us, does anyone have any tips on modifying my stradge-i-dy for the upcoming season? I always try to go for depth at each position, and with FAs' now the only way to get another player, it seems like an even better idea. I also think my hancuffs at RB should go up in priority, for the same reason. However, with our rosters being what they are, I am also thinking of prioritzing handcuffs for OTHER coaches RBs', so when they do go down, I have already swooped, so to speak. ( Does anyone else do this? It seems to me that in RB-heavy leauges with trades and a lot of teams, another coaches' high-quality back-up is just as valuable as your own; instant trade-bait for an owner who panics because they just lost their stud is a very good thing to have...)

I look forward to hearing from anyone with insight or experience in this regard, and will glady share any knowledge in return. (Provided you are not in one of my leauges, of course.)

Doing away with trades all together is throwing the baby out with the bath water. Deal with the collusion by axing those guys and finding new league members. If you're the commish, flex your authoritative muscle and make it happen.

Since you cannot trade it doesn't really help to be strong in just one area...I would try and fill out most of my starters first...if you have to start 3 WR do not wait till the 5th round to start drafting those guys...

1st round RB

2nd round RB2/WR1

3rd round RB2/WR1/2...if you already have 2 RBs I would go WR for sure.

4th round RB2/WR2/3

5th round RB3/QB1/WR3

6th round Best value

7th round Best value

I would be looking to come out of the 1st 6-7 rounds with 3 RB/3-4WR and 1 QB...wait on TE and target Ben Watson/LJ Smith in the 8th and 9th rounds.

You will need 1 decent starting QB...I have found McNabb to be a bargain in the 5th/6th rounds in most re drafts. I also think the Warner/Leinart handcuff might work very well too.

18 spots is not as many you think...you will need 5 RB...1 of them will be a handcuff to one of your starters likely...5-6 WR, 2 QB, 2TE, 1 Def/ST, 1PK...you can always get a PK of Def off waivers...you should have a couple of spots left to use on RB/WR/Qb flyers.

Good luck

 ...I love it when you talk tough. :goodposting: by the way. I can't imagine no trading.

Shick! is right. Doing away with trades is the wrong move; trading is part of FF and should not be eliminated. Kick the owners out of the league who were in collusion and be done with it.I know you may think these guys are your friends but if a friend is willing to cheat at FF then he is not a friend.

I have posted on this topic before and you will find there is a very vocal group that cannot fathom a league that does not allow trades. However, collusion is always a possibility in a trade league especially when larger sums of $$ is involved. On the other hand, if you were involved in a league where trades were common and you had a good process for how they occured, you may want to consider keeping your trade process after just eliminating the bad owners. The most important ingrediant to any league has nothing to do with rules. It has everything to do with good owners.

That being said, I can tell you from experience (2 $200 leagues that are 13 and 15 years old) that no trade leagues work very well and all they do is foster a much more active waiver wire than a trade league. The strategy for the draft is pretty much the same as in any other league. Draft the best available talent and aim for a good bench. And keep a vigil eye on the waiver wire. And yes, it does make the draft more important, but that tends to favor better prepared owners so one could argue that is a good thing.

Best of luck whichever way you go.

Mike

thanks, guys. I am not happy with it either, but evryone--including the collusion guys-- decided to do it this way this year. Honestly, there weren't that many trades, anyway; maybe 6 to 10 a season, so it's no big deal, but really solves a problem for me. I will just have to draft better this year, and handcuff more...

Thanks again for the input.

Ummm, just a thought here - kick the "collusion guys" out of the league and allow trading. I can't imagine why these guys are still in the league.
