First Time Keeper League (1 Viewer)

Hey guys. One of the leagues I'm in might become a keeper league this season. Are there any FBG articles outlining what rounds you should draft which rookies? Since it's a keeper league, I'm assuming you'd draft certain rookies earlier than you would in a redraft league. First time with keepers so any insight would be appreciated. League is a 12 team, non-ppr, pretty standard scoring. Thanks.

FBG has some articles but they tend to be more general.

I guess it would depend on the Keeper rules. Some leagues have it so you can keep X amount of players irregardless of the round they were drafted in. Other leagues you can keep a player but they cost the round they were drafted in. Also some leagues you can keep a player for 2-3 seasons and others for longer than that.

I wouldn't necessarily reach for a rookie but if they fall I would definitely take a chance. I personally try to wait until the middle rounds to later rounds because most rookies will flash but it will take until Year 2 or 3 for them to really start to propel themselves. Outside of maybe a handful (Luck, RGIII, Richardson, Martin, maybe Blackmon on the WR side) I'd say the odds are against immediate success like last season.

Here is an example of my league's draft to illustrate. This is out of 20 Rounds and QBs can be a premium since we have a flex option.

Round 1: Andrew Luck, RGIII, and Trent Richardson went 1-2-3. Doug Martin went at Pick 8.

Round 4: Brandon Weeden went at Pick 7.

Round 5: Coby Fleener went at Pick 11.

Round 6: Justin Blackmon went at Pick 8.

On the flip side of those... RB Ronnie Hillman went Round 8, RB Robert Turbin went Round 9, WRs Alshon Jeffery and Reuben Randle went Round 10, and WR Kendall Wright went Round 12.

In a 12 team standard league I'd aim for this...

Round 1: Andrew Luck, RGIII, maybe Trent Richardson

Round 2: Doug Martin

Round 4: Justin Blackmon

Round 6-8: Coby Fleener, Alshon Jeffery

Round 9-11: Brandon Weeden, Ryan Tannehill, Stephen Hill, Kendall Wright, Ronnie Hillman, Robert Turbin

Round 12-16: Deeper players that you like who may not make an immediate impact but could have some impact towards the end of the season. Guys like TE Dwayne Allen could be valuable here.

How many guys will you keep and for how long? What's your starting lineup requirements?
Our rules are you cannot keep any players drafted in the first three rounds. After that you can keep an unlimited number of players. The cost of the keeper is 2 rounds higher than where you drafted him. We have 18 rounds in our draft and our starter requirements are 1 QB / 1 RB / 2 WR / 1 TE / 1 FLEX RB/WR, 1 FLEX WR/TE, 1 K / 1 D.

Thanks for the responses guys, greatly appreciated. Our league is similar to Saint's except we start 2 RB and 1 Flex RB/WR/TE. I think we're leaning towards not keeping any players in the first 2 rounds. All keepers next year will cost you the pick 2 rounds higher than where the player was drafted. Not sure on the amount of keepers yet, 5 maybe? Thanks again guys.
