Fitbit? (2 Viewers)

Do you need to properly calibrate these things to get them to count the steps correctly?

I tested mine out right after I got it, counting the steps to my car. Should have been over 1K steps, but it came in just over 800.

Also, my wife and I have basically the same stride (she's only an inch shorter) and we can walk a good distance and come up with completely different totals.

Mine also randomly adds steps while I'm driving home, and things like that.
didn't see any response's to this - what do the experienced users say?
  1. Log into your fitbit.com dashboard and click the gear icon in the top right.
  2. Click Settings.
  3. Update the Stride Length and Running Stride Length fields. ...
  4. Don't forget to click Save.
How did you calculate your step length? Did you take several steps and measure the distance? Do you have a different step length when you are walking at different speeds? Just seems tough to get correct.

It's to get a ball park distance. It isn't going to be 100%

Without reading the whole thread, how do I adjust driving steps?

I tend to drive a bunch for work, and have noticed I've already almost logged 3k steps(most of them while driving)

Browsed the thread and some reviews on wareable.com

For one looking at a very basic functioning fitness tracker, I'm leaning towards the Jawbone UP2 I think. I don't need a HR monitor, so not worried about that aspect of it. Fitbit now seems to be (according to the reviews I could find) rather trailing the competitors Jawbone and Garmin in overall rankings. Any insight from you experts here?

I've had both the Jawbone Up and now have the Fitbit Surge. I absolutely loved my Up, but two big things come into play:

1 - Display. The only way to see how I was doing was to sync my jawbone to my phone, and I didn't always have my phone with me. With my Fitbit I get the display that continuously updates with my steps. May not be a big deal to some, but for me it's about motivation and accountability, and being able to look down and see where I'm at is a big deal to me.

2 - My Up eventually broke, as the stress of removing it and putting it on for showering, etc. was just too much after a while. I was VERY careful when putting it on and taking it off, but even then I only got 8 months out of it before the bending snapped it inside the rubber. Having a watchband on my Surge has removed that problem, though I'm still super careful with it.

Other than those two things, I had no issues with my Up and thought it was lights out. I also had one of the original versions of the Up, so perhaps the band has made big strides in its durability. Still, though, I much prefer my Surge.

I've thought about getting a wearable but unsure which to get therefore I don't get any. The Apple Watch is a no go for me even though I have an iPhone. I've only read reviews for the most part about MSFT's new phone and it seems promising however I'm going to wait for their new one, I'd think next year, to see if I want to go that route again (Windows phone). I do like the MSFT Band 2 but wouldn't want to buy it if there are syncing issues (apparently there aren't any issues).

I'm not dissatisfied with my iPhone at all but the Windows phone, to me, seems like it could do more for me. If they come out with a phone next year, reportedly a Surface phone, that you could use as a "mini" Surface... I think I'd be sold on that. I'm looking but not sure about buying therefore, I wait.

I have gone through a couple of Fitbit Flex's and have gone through the Fitbit warranty replacement protocol.

Fitbit does replace them if they stop working. The issue is that these Flex's are a really crummy build IMO. I have had four replaced, which is two or three too many times.

From my experience, they either stop holding a charge or cannot transfer the charge when connected to the USB dongle, rendering it useless. I also lost one on the golf course as the strap does not have a locking mechanism.

All in all, it was great to track the distance walked/ran/steps over the course of a full day and I did feel a bit healthier with this tangible, visible tracking of my fitness.

But at $99, Fitbit needs to make these things actually work longer term rather than a 6month novelty.

My wife and I just started doing the diet exercise thing and we have MyFitnessPal up and running on my Iphone. It just brings over the steps from the phone, but if would be nice if we didn't have to carry this phone with us everywhere we go. We are looking at the Charge HR as we both don't like the size of the Surge. The question is, can you change the bands on the Charge HR? I see different color ones, but I wasn't sure if those were for the Charge HR,

Me and the wifey are still rocking Up3's.  The calorie counts seem very accurate except for weight lifting and non-exercise but still active stuff (like gardening or shoveling snow).  It detects activity very well and takes your heart rate throughout the day.  The sleep tracking seems remarkable accurate as well as far as knowing when you fell asleep, woke up, etc.

Happy with it but I wish it used the same exact calorie counting method as the bodybugg.  The rep told me that because the bodybugg was placed specifically on your tricep, and this is on your wrist, the exact same sensors can't be used.

Please advice. My employer will buy me a Zip, or take $47 plus 25% off any other Fitbit device. Should I upgrade, and if so, how far? I would really like to have the HR capabilities of the Charge HR, but have read mixed reviews of its methodology. Any thoughts appreciated.

I've had my Charge for just over a year.  Over the last month or so the battery life has really started to tank.  Getting maybe a day and a half out of it and I have all the extra bull#### turned off.  Disappointing.

You can set your stride length; I think the default is 31 inches. I didn't mess with it, because although my stride is probably longer than that on the treadmill, it's likely shorter elsewhere.

Do you guys find these being overly generous with the steps? In a group at my work and one chick is getting like 3000+ steps per mile where as me and one other guy with apple watches get closer to 2100. The other fit bits gets around 2700.
Is the other fitbit user also female?  Just judging from average heights and average stride lengths (2.2ft for men; 2.5 ft for women), you would expect females to take 300-400 more steps per mile than males.  So 1000+ more steps/mile would seem extreme, unless you are talking about a very short-striding female and a long-striding male

Got one last week for my birthday, kinda digging it so far.  I have been entering all my meals in there and everything, pretty good database to be honest.

Reviving an old thread.  Curious as to how many of you are still using yours after a year.  My wife wants to get a pair for the both of us.  Those of you that have them, do you feel it's worth it and beneficial?

If we end up getting them, I'm leaning towards the Alta HR.  It looks like it's got pretty good functionality, but it's not over huge on the wrist either.  Anyone have one?

One of those things that's cool at first but after a few months you already know all your numbers so you kind of stop checking the app and them eventually stop wearing it all together.

My wife still wears hers. I stopped because I lost the dongle and the thing quit syncing with my phone a few months after getting it. Therefore the time is WAY off and it is useless as a watch. I can't say that I miss it.

Been wearing the Fitbit Ionic for over a week and it’s pretty cool. I bought this instead of the Apple Watch 3 and I made the right choice. Holiday season coming around probably won’t get any sales on it but I think it’s worth it so far. I just have to utilize it a bit more.

I got a Misfit Ray a few weeks ago.  It's very minimal with only one LED.  I just wanted something to track steps and buzz me when I get a text.  I didn't need a watch, heartbeat monitor or another thing to have to charge.

Still going strong with my Charge 2 although my Surge officially crapped out and I replaced it with a Garmin Vivoactive.  Very impressed.

Looking for some recommendations.  I am not even sure what I am about to describe exists.  I have done some googling, and what I have turned up thus far does not quite meet what I am looking for.

I am looking for a fitness tracker that is not a watch replacement - I want to be able to wear a nice watch on my left wrist if I desire, while wearing this on my right, without it looking stupid as if I am wearing two watches.  Something not bulky and without a traditional watch-face -- so not an Apple Watch or similar style.  More a band -- but I DO want it to have some type of display showing time or heartrate, etc.  Just more than an LED light, while thin, and having a low profile.

The band needs to be waterproof for swimming, and preferably can track laps, strokes, etc.

Prefer that it can measure other workouts and activities such as boxing.

I also have a standing desk and would love to be able to track how long I sit vs stand.

Needs a heart rate monitor.

Typical step counting and sleep tracking.

iOS compatible.

Does this exist?  It seems like the Garmin Vívoactive HR – GPS Waterproof Smartwatch is the closest thing?  I cannot tell how big/bulky it is from the photos though.

Any suggestions would be great.  TIA

Don’t hold out on me, FFA.
Fitbit makes wrist band type trackers that tell the time but they are thinner than a watch. I assume they do much of what a Fitbit watch does but I'm not sure when Fitbit updated that line. You are looking at wrist band type stuff and/or things to clip on a belt but that is just a pedometer.

Garmin Vivosmart 3 seems the closest.

I have a jawbone something something but it doesn’t have a heart monitor nor is it waterproof.

I basically want it to look like a black man braclet so I can wear a real watch too on the other. But it may all look dumb.

Has anyone entered the world of ring fitness trackers yet? I’ve tried wearing watches and they annoy me. I’ve done the clip one Fitbit one and it works pretty well for what it is. I’m intrigued now by the Motiv Ring fitness tracker. Basically a heart rate monitoring Fitbit watch but in a ring package with no read out. Has apps for both apple and android. Available for $200 on Amazon.

Picked one of these up for $150. It was a limited edition black onyx version normally $300 but 50% off as a partnership with Good Morning America Deals. Cool tech. Don't get that immediate feedback like Fitbit or something with display. It's meant more to capture the data and review later. Not sure how great it is in capturing workouts or sleep yet. Said I had a workout earlier today that I didn't. Could be because my resting heart rate is too high and it assumed I was working outm. Also captured a period of time in my lazy boy chair as sleep...which really was probably sort of accurate.

The Oura ring looks even better but the price tag is higher.

I bought an Ionic when it first came out. Like the app, battery, and so on. Last summer it stopped working. Got a replacement after about three weeks. Last couple weeks a button quit working and it’s a little weirder now since the one button doesn’t work. Contacted Fitbit and they pretty much told me to pound sand. Gave me a 25% off of a new Fitbit but with sales in stores, this “coupon” is pretty much no use.

Would not mind a Charge 3 but am pissed at Fitbit. Is the Apple Watch a worthy competitor or are there too many differences to go forward with an Apple Watch? Curious to hear from others.

Bought a Charge 3 a while back and died the first day I had it.  You read that right.  Got a replacement and it works great.  Big improvement over the 2.  For HR, I have a Garmin Forerunner 735xt.  Fitbit is all over the place with HR which is why I won’t use it for most cardio sessions. I had a Vivo 2 and hated it. The 3 looks better and more comparable to other Garmins.
