Fitzgerald to Eagles Trade Rumor (1 Viewer)

This is just a rumor, but given the contract stalemate and cost of keeping Fitzgerald in Arizona and the Eagles' need for a true WR1, it doesn't seem too far fetched:

KFFL is reporting: "Kent Somers, of The Arizona Republic, reports the Philadelphia Eagles have talked to the Arizona Cardinals about acquiring WR Larry Fitzgerald. Eagles CB Lito Sheppard and WR Reggie Brown were rumored to be part of the offer. "

If this comes off what does it mean to fantasy?

Fitzgerald: Winner: he goes to a team where he will be the clear featured WR and I expect his targets to go up.

Reggie Brown: Even: he is WR2 in Philadelphia now and he would be in Arizona too. I don't see a lot of change for him.

But the Big Winners?

McNabb: When he had a true WR1 in TO it did benefit him; most of his career he has had good, but not great WRs. This would definitely help him big time.

Boldin: His targets go up with Fitzgerald on the other side.

But the other thread doesn't examine the impact on fantasy, just whether or not such a deal is even possible. Different questions.

I hadn't thought about the potential of how doubling might affect Boldin. Good point.

I think this would about net out for Fitzgerald and agree the big winner would be McNabb.

But I think it would actually help Brown. Boldin's not a deep threat, the Cards are a poor running team, and Brown wouldn't be competing with a RB or TE for touches.

Cards 2007: RB 105 targets, TE 57 targets, Fitz 167 targets, Bryant 87 targets, RB 584 total

Eagles 2007: RB 153 targets, TE 87 targets, 564 total

So basically the Cardinals are one of the few teams that throw the ball more than the Eagles and they targeted WRs with 100 passes more than the Eagles did last year. On top of that the Cardinals have lost the recipients of nearly 1/2 those targets (254 targets) in Fitz and Bryant.

Brown would also be the clear deep threat. You never know how these things play out, but it's pretty hard to construct a scenario where Brown's numbers don't jump.

Brown isn't likely to go to Arizona because of the cap numbers involved, but he would be the biggest winner in this scenario. With a true #1 on the other side, Brown would post career highs easily.

Maybe not, but he was new to the league then. Defenses are more familiar with him now then they were then.

If you PERSONALLY are tired of the Larry Fitz rumors then by all means avoid the threads. But don't cast a cloud of negativity over what should be an interesting thread discussion.
