Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (11 Viewers)

So on the more local side a review for my Charlotte friends. Went to a place called Sauceman's for lunch a couple of days ago. It's a BBQ place, on the corner of West Blvd and Hwy 49, that has won a couple of smaller competitions. It wasn't bad but I was expecting more. And I was a little disappointed in the Mac and Cheese. It was a bit dry. The meat was good though on a par with Mac's Speed Shop which for a chain ain't bad.
Fan of their meats...the sides could use work though.

That's pretty awful
yes

saying wait on line is pretty awful unless you're using a computer or standing on top of a line somehow.
Since when? Not like this is a new phrase or anything.
since forever really

Just asked a few different people of above average intelligence... Mixed responses, but all feel it is acceptable either way. I'll keep this on mind when traveling outside of NYC ;)

What do we think of potbelly sandwich shop?
meh

Jimmy John's >>> Potbelly
Never had Potbelly, but I find this hard to believe. I thought the only way this comparison goes is where Jimmy John's >>> Subway. They are 1A and 1B as far as crappy sandwiches go IMO.
Agree. JJ and Subway are the worst based on awful bread alone.

Penn Station >> Jersey Mikes >> Quiznos/Potbellies >> JJ/Subway

I am not a big fan of PB, but their hot peppers save it for me.

I likes me some Penn Station. Introduced to it in the Cincy area and happily surprised that it was here when I moved. Since moving back, a few have opened around the CLT area

Phasers set to condiments is a classic.

I may need to utilize it in "real life."

You know, as if any of these "screenames" are real, live, people.

As a follow-up to the TGI Friday's all-you-can-eat appetizer promotion, one courageous female Gawker blogger did the open-until-close challenge with mozzarella sticks. Good read, it's pretty funny: http://gawker.com/my-14-hour-search-for-the-end-of-tgi-fridays-endless-ap-1606122925?utm_source=digg&utm_medium=facebook

My favorite quote, which actually made me laugh:

Is this it? Have I reached the limit, the aporia of endless apps? Is Marisa my savior—or my greatest foe?

7:41 p.m. Marisa returns with my fifth order of mozzarella sticks. We decide that she will charge me for one more Diet Coke (cost: $2.80) in order to open a new check. A little unorthodox, but that is life for we, the first settlers of the Endless Apps frontier.

Ate at Smashburger this past weekend. It was ok. Don't really get the love for it. Shake was decent, but honestly, Steak 'n Shakes are much better.

Went to in and out burger for the first time yesterday. It was a very good fast food burger. In fact, tastes like what McDonald should have been all these years. Just a really nice burger. Having said that, it is not a gourmet burger. It's just a fast food burger.

It does not compare to smashburger, five guys, Tom and Eddie's and other gourmet burger places. It's a different type of sandwich.

Apparently getting a Five Guys right next to where I work. Still prefer the local burger joint, but I think I'm lazy enough to not want to make a 15-minute round trip drive.

I am now qualified to say 5 Guys>>>In-N-Out
:goodposting:

I moved to San Diego from Virginia in February. There was a 5 Guys close to my home in Virginia, and we went there periodically. I went to In-N-Out for the second time since moving here last week. It just confirmed what I already knew. In-N-Out is cheaper, but 5 Guys is better.

Also, the best fast food chicken is Chick-Fil-A and the best sub is Jersey Mike's.

And it's not close for any of these.

Current rankings:

1. Five Guys

2. Pretty much anything that isn't a fast food burger place, could be any bar/grill or even a chain like Max & Erma's

3. Steak N Shake

4. Wendy's

5. In-N-Out

Chick-Fil-A chicken is just about perfect (fries stink, tho), but those Stepford cashiers give me the creeps. You just know they release a day's worth of hate on somebody or something once they get out of work.

Fake cheese pushes Five Guys firmly into the fail column, It's as bad as Philly cheese steaks made with cheese-whiz,

I'd like to meet the person who decided that real cheese is not an option and show them my Ray Guy impression.

Smash and 5 guys are gourmet to you? Go to Houston's and get the burger made from fresh steak ground up and then report back if Smash and 5 Guys are gourmet burgers or "the next level".

I'll take In n Out over 5G any day all day. Plus In n Out is half the price. If I am gonna spend $10-$15 for a burger, fries, and drink, it sure won't be 5G.
