Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (2 Viewers)

5 Guys burger is closer to a little league snack shack then In-N-Out. Their fries are the best around though. I do like the option to get a hot dog though. But that is mitigated with no shake option.

i have only been to one smashburger and didn't love it. lived about a mile away in CO, so gave it several tries.

currently live close to both ino and 5 guys. gave 5 guys another shot: burger under-seasoned, while generous with the fries they were over-seasoned (despite asking them to go light on it). only one person in front of us, took a while to get our food. still hard for me to choose 5 guys over ino.

Went to in and out burger for the first time yesterday. It was a very good fast food burger. In fact, tastes like what McDonald should have been all these years. Just a really nice burger. Having said that, it is not a gourmet burger. It's just a fast food burger.

It does not compare to smashburger, five guys, Tom and Eddie's and other gourmet burger places. It's a different type of sandwich.
Smash and 5 guys are gourmet to you? Go to Houston's and get the burger made from fresh steak ground up and then report back if Smash and 5 Guys are gourmet burgers or "the next level".I'll take In n Out over 5G any day all day. Plus In n Out is half the price. If I am gonna spend $10-$15 for a burger, fries, and drink, it sure won't be 5G.
Agree. I'm not even sure of the point he's trying to make about it not being a gourmet burger? I&O isn't even trying to be a gourmet burger...
That is the point. I&O was a great burger. 5G is a great burger. They are different styles of burger. It's stupid to compare them the way some have. I'm using 'gourmet' loosely here. In the spectrum of faster burger joints (non-sit down and order with a waiter) places like 5G, smash etc are a bit more gourmet. Prices reflect that.

I'm not down in I&O. For the price, it's as good or better than 5G. If you didn't have to pay for either or didn't know the price, 5G is better. If for no reason other than you can put more than 4 things on your burger.

As a follow-up to the TGI Friday's all-you-can-eat appetizer promotion, one courageous female Gawker blogger did the open-until-close challenge with mozzarella sticks. Good read, it's pretty funny: http://gawker.com/my-14-hour-search-for-the-end-of-tgi-fridays-endless-ap-1606122925?utm_source=digg&utm_medium=facebook

My favorite quote, which actually made me laugh:

Is this it? Have I reached the limit, the aporia of endless apps? Is Marisa my savior—or my greatest foe?

7:41 p.m. Marisa returns with my fifth order of mozzarella sticks. We decide that she will charge me for one more Diet Coke (cost: $2.80) in order to open a new check. A little unorthodox, but that is life for we, the first settlers of the Endless Apps frontier.
Great read.

If you are putting more than four things on your burger, does it matter how good it is? Seems at that point, you wouldn't even be tasting the meat. Kind of like buying a high quality steak and having it cooked well done then smothering it in A1.

Yup.

I love that she made sure to have diet coke after scarfing down 32 mozz sticks.

Some of you are either intentionally trolling or really dense. There are different styles of food with in the same category. You can get a street vendor taco that tastes great, then go to a very fancy restaurant and get a very fancy taco. No one would conflate the two. Yet for some reason, the in and out crowd needs to be able to compare that food to higher-priced burgers.

In and out is a fast food restaurant. Five guys, smash burger, those are fast casual restaurants. They are not even technically the same category of restaurant.

If you didn't have to pay for either or didn't know the price, 5G is better bigger.
I like both burgers. But on a per-bite basis, I would not say that 5G tastes better.
For the whole experience, I would say that I can build a better Burger at five guys. I actually think in and out may have a better hamburger but at five guys I can put jalapenos, grilled mushrooms, bacon, barbecue sauce. Unless I missed something, you can't really do that much at in and out.

You can't say you had a great salad if there was anything on the salad besides lettuce. You can't say you had a great taco if you had anything else besides meat in a tortilla. You can't say you had a great steak if there were grilled mushrooms or any type of pan sauce on it. Is that really what we are going with now?

If one of the toppings available at Five Guys were an In-N-Out burger, I would agree with you. As things stand, it seems that our tastes differ.

Order it animal style an In-n-Out.

I agree that the availability of toppings is nice at 5g, but that's the only thing good about that place. I don't even get the rage with the fries. Like the burger, they're not better (they're actually worse) than most, there are just more of them.

Update:

1. Five Guys

2. Pretty much anything that isn't a fast food burger place, could be any bar/grill or even a chain like Max & Erma's

3. Tolly Ho

4. Steak N Shake

5. Roy Rogers

6. White Castle

7 Wendy's

8. In-N-Out

9. Hardee's

10. Burger King

11. Mcdonalds

Nobody here likes Krystal's?

1. Krystals. Hold the mustard, hold the pickle. White Castles without the surly service.

1b. White Castle

2. Popeye's

3. Five Guys

If I'm honest, McDonald's comes next. I eat there a ton. Bacon McDouble, great fries, Coke, $4 (price should count for something). I've got to get on the highway to get to a White Castle or a Popeye's, and Five Guys is more than I like to spend (and more than I like to eat).

Krystal's is solid. Perfect form factor for the highway drive too.

If you ever get to Texas I bet you'd prefer Whataburger to In-n-out.

I haven't had Krystals in forever. Didn't know they were still open. Only fast food place my grandfather liked and so during the summer when i was in Augusta if we ate a burger out it was at Krystals. They also had this deal with the local theater for kids matinees you brought in a certain number of wrappers and the movie was free.

I&O ranked lower than White Castle and Wendy's. :lmao: ok
I absolutely enjoy White Castle more than InO. Not even close.

Not saying the quality is the same or the smiling choir boy service, but given a choice I'm going WC most of the time.

The last time I ate at Krystals (Knoxville), after they took your order they gave you a plastic number to set on your table, then they brought your food out to you. I can barely get my food at White Castle when I'm standing at the counter. People down South are just nicer, at least when it comes to that kind of stuff.

Anyway, Krystals is still thriving - they are everywhere. I know where the White Castle/Krystals line is as I'm driving south (Louisville).

Terrible nasty ####
always thought it was a good, fresh tasting burger with great veg for a fast food place, but its been 5 years so maybe my memory is off

White Castle should be illegal. It's like eating literal garbage.
White Castle is great if you like a wonder bread like bun loaded with onions and a paper thin burger. McDonalds burgers are better and those barely qualify as real meat.
Also great for people who like to spend most of the next day on the toilet.
You can't deny that the ride home is fun, though. Especially if you are in control of the windows.

Forgot about Culver's.
