5 Guys burger is closer to a little league snack shack then In-N-Out. Their fries are the best around though. I do like the option to get a hot dog though. But that is mitigated with no shake option.

i have only been to one smashburger and didn't love it. lived about a mile away in CO, so gave it several tries.

currently live close to both ino and 5 guys. gave 5 guys another shot: burger under-seasoned, while generous with the fries they were over-seasoned (despite asking them to go light on it). only one person in front of us, took a while to get our food. still hard for me to choose 5 guys over ino.

Went to in and out burger for the first time yesterday. It was a very good fast food burger. In fact, tastes like what McDonald should have been all these years. Just a really nice burger. Having said that, it is not a gourmet burger. It's just a fast food burger.

It does not compare to smashburger, five guys, Tom and Eddie's and other gourmet burger places. It's a different type of sandwich.

Smash and 5 guys are gourmet to you? Go to Houston's and get the burger made from fresh steak ground up and then report back if Smash and 5 Guys are gourmet burgers or "the next level".I'll take In n Out over 5G any day all day. Plus In n Out is half the price. If I am gonna spend $10-$15 for a burger, fries, and drink, it sure won't be 5G.

Agree. I'm not even sure of the point he's trying to make about it not being a gourmet burger? I&O isn't even trying to be a gourmet burger...

That is the point. I&O was a great burger. 5G is a great burger. They are different styles of burger. It's stupid to compare them the way some have. I'm using 'gourmet' loosely here. In the spectrum of faster burger joints (non-sit down and order with a waiter) places like 5G, smash etc are a bit more gourmet. Prices reflect that.

I'm not down in I&O. For the price, it's as good or better than 5G. If you didn't have to pay for either or didn't know the price, 5G is better. If for no reason other than you can put more than 4 things on your burger.

I'm not down in I&O. For the price, it's as good or better than 5G. If you didn't have to pay for either or didn't know the price, 5G is better. If for no reason other than you can put more than 4 things on your burger.

If you are putting more than four things on your burger, does it matter how good it is? Seems at that point, you wouldn't even be tasting the meat. Kind of like buying a high quality steak and having it cooked well done then smothering it in A1.

Some of you are either intentionally trolling or really dense. There are different styles of food with in the same category. You can get a street vendor taco that tastes great, then go to a very fancy restaurant and get a very fancy taco. No one would conflate the two. Yet for some reason, the in and out crowd needs to be able to compare that food to higher-priced burgers.

In and out is a fast food restaurant. Five guys, smash burger, those are fast casual restaurants. They are not even technically the same category of restaurant.

You can't say you had a great steak if there were grilled mushrooms or any type of pan sauce on it. Is that really what we are going with now?

I agree that the availability of toppings is nice at 5g, but that's the only thing good about that place. I don't even get the rage with the fries. Like the burger, they're not better (they're actually worse) than most, there are just more of them.

I haven't had Krystals in forever. Didn't know they were still open. Only fast food place my grandfather liked and so during the summer when i was in Augusta if we ate a burger out it was at Krystals. They also had this deal with the local theater for kids matinees you brought in a certain number of wrappers and the movie was free.

The last time I ate at Krystals (Knoxville), after they took your order they gave you a plastic number to set on your table, then they brought your food out to you. I can barely get my food at White Castle when I'm standing at the counter. People down South are just nicer, at least when it comes to that kind of stuff.

Anyway, Krystals is still thriving - they are everywhere. I know where the White Castle/Krystals line is as I'm driving south (Louisville).
