Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (2 Viewers)

Five Guys here in SoCal might as well be any mom and pop spot. No one has really heard of it. I went to one late Sunday night and was the only person in there. Cashier asked me if I've been there before? Guess a new face surprised him.

Got my order and was loading up on ketchup and he was asking me if I wanted peanuts. I said I was good. He said I can take some to go. Still good. He then offered me mayo if I wanted to make a thousand island sauce. No thanks.

The soda fountain pretty cool though. Powerade zero is a nice option.

Been three times now. The hot dog and fries will keep me coming. Got to get the fries well done makes all the difference. The little league snack-shack hamburger bun doesn't do it for me.

So if you rob them of soda, you can keep it under $10.
I actually got kicked out of a 5G's because a manager/assistant manager noticed I was coming in and bringing in my previously used 5G's soda pop cup for a refill. I dont know if she was looking for a promotion or what, but I was like "damn, you care that much about your fountain drinks"
:lmao:

This is a shtick, right?
Nope, no lie.

I was traveling once a week for school at that time, this was 2-3 yrs ago. Got my lunch a couple times at that 5G's on the way to school or back, whichever. I kept my cup I guess because why not for a free drink next week, and I figured why not keep it and get a free refill next week when I might not get lunch their on my way in case im not in the mood. But yeah, this "manager" called me out and basically said she had seen me come into 5G's and just fill up and refill without buying anything, bounce after a couple times (which was true, but seriously, you watch #### that close?!). I just threw my cup in the garbage and told her I didnt realize fountain drinks had reached the price of getting a promotion, good luck, you must be on the fast track!
And you are proud to tell that story as the manager being the #####?
Somewhat, but mostly because of people who think they are on the "fast food freeway" to a promotion by clipping me because I want a free soda pop that I was overcharged for in the first place.

I'd like to think the managers of an establish like that are doing more than being fountain drink gestapos.
Why so down Kenny? "####### ##### caught me."

waiting in those huge lines at In N Out kind of defeats the purpose of "fast food".
10 cars in the drive thru, no big deal... Only like 20 minutes give or take.
It took 35 minutes between pulling into the lot/drive-thru and getting my #1 combo this past Thursday. That's not fast food. 20 minutes is too long for even a sit down restaurant for a cheeseburger.

10-15 minute the norm with a decent line. I don't even bother when the line is crazy.

The largest profit margin for fast food is the drinks. If you are coming in and stealing it, they don't want you back. So yea, she did her job.

Were you going back in with your cup and going straight over to the drink machine, filling up and then walking back out? And doing this multiple times?

Or were you ordering food and brought your old cup with you for soda?

I bumped this thread a week ago and it was a huge mistake for my health... Every time I see it I crave FG. It's 9am and I'm thinking cheeseburger and fries.

I assume you were getting food, but didn't it raise suspicions when you walked up to the counter with a FG cup before you ordered?

I don't know where $14 comes from either.

I just did the online order, regular cheeseburger (2 patties) & little fries (prob bigger than an extra large at INO) = $9.78. This is a gigantic meal that would leave most people very full... They'll give you a cup for water, and if you're that concerned about the $2, you can use it for soda.

Lets put money aside here... Lets just pretend that either meal was free, would anyone still chose INO over FG?
Yes, most of the time.

Our resident 5G connoisseur, Ford, disagrees, but the bun is a fairly significant weak link for the 5G burger.

Burgers have nice flavor, I like the topping choices, and the fries are great, but the fact that they've come to be known for having an exceptional burger with that ####ty bun really speaks to the poor competition in the burger market.

Now we have people stealing cokes from 5Gs in here. Eesh...
When you rob customers with your prices, they tend to rob you back.
I agree the fountain soda game is a huge racket.

But restaurants need that easy profit, and the idiots that buy soda help subsidize the rest of the menu for the rest of us.

The answer, of course, is to order and drink the water. Not steal the damn soda.

If soda sales subsidizes the rest of the menu prices, then advising everyone to choose to drink water instead of soda to keep their meal under $10 will lead to higher rest of the menu prices.

I wouldn't won't that to happen, and luckily, it never will

I won't get around to advising "everyone", but even if I did, it wouldn't matter.

How many days a week do you fatties eat out? The $4 extra at 5G is killing your wallets so I'm guessing you're eating out no less than 7 days a week.
How many times does it need to be pointed out that the price component is about value not cost.

If I can get an, arguably, better meal for $6 then why would/should I pay $10?

Gonna have to try that next time (it's also another concept they are stealing from In-N-Out).

I walked by the Five Guys near me this morning and saw what looked like the owner going over a spread sheet. Seemed like he was trying to make some numbers work but the restaurant just hasn't generated enough business to do it. He had his head in his hands at multiple points. A lot of temple rubbing. His wife/lady friend tried to bring him some peanuts but he waved her off without ever looking up from the figures. You gotta think the business is in serious trouble if he's turning down his own peanuts.

Maybe he joined the ACC.

Well.....I think you know what we need to do here, GB. I think it's time to organize a flash mob and turn this guy's fortunes around. I bet we could get some many people to assist with this worthy cause that the designated screamer/greeter will just be overwhelmed when we pour through the door....."OH MY GOD SIR!!!! SIR!!!! ONE IN THE.....NO, TWO IN THE....HOLY HELL, I'M LOSING TRACK!"

"Damn it, Brad, keep screaming them out, your coworkers need to be alerted! DO YOUR JOB, BRAD!!!"

 It may be past the point that could help. My buddy went there last week, told him it would take 45 minutes for his food. Why? They had to relight the grill and turn the fryers back on. Nobody been going in there so they don't even have things turned on in the kitchen. Even had to plug the soda machine in. All they could do was just keep refilling his peanuts while he waited.

This is kind of amazing. You actually saved the cup. My head is tilting in puzzlement.

So if you want to get out of 5G for under $10 then you need to steal from them.

Got it.
Go through the drive through at McDonalds and pick up some fries and coke, then walk into FG and order a cheeseburger to complete your meal. No stealing involved, and it's under $10.

Glad I could help you figure that out, but to be honest, any nimrod should be able to come up with that on their own. It's not FG's fault people are so ignorant.

SODA FOR LYFE, YO!

More of you need to support GB Nipsey in the ACC thread. The exploding of Dukey (Dookie?) heads depends on it.

CIVIC RESPONSIBILITY

It's not a better meal
Their fries are not comparable & therefore this can't be argued.

I'm at Five Guys. I paid 6.04 for a hot dog (no fries, no drink). I'm waiting for it to come out. I'll let you know how awesome it is.

There are nine non-employees in here, including me. Zero of us are eating peanuts.

The hot dog came with bacon and cheese, which is why it was six bucks. I also got grilled onions. It was perfectly good, but not particularly big. Similar to a normal Nathan's dog in size and quality.
