Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (1 Viewer)

it's no secret that some people don't like the INnOut fries. Some do though and it's because they keep it simple and let the ingredient speak for itself without processing. They don't bathe them is salt either. Some people want more salt or a different kind of frying oil. That's OK. You can bump all the old posts you want but somebody's personal opinion that something sucks doesn't make it true.
JoeT had never even "heard of animal style" at In N Out until I brought it up in here recently. Yet it's been talked about going back to the very beginning of this thread over and over again as a solution to making their awful fries actually edible.
whoa, whoa whoa. Animal style is primarily used for burgers. I don't know anyone who gets the fries animal style. I certainly never have. I'd guess a decent percentage of customers get the burger animal style but not many get the fries that way. I honestly never knew it was an option until a few years ago. Anybody here advocating getting the fries animal style were just trying to present an option to you that you might like better. Again, "Animal Style" is something that has to do mostly with the burgers.
The reason(s) why you dislike 5G's has never been more apparent than this post.
I don't dislike 5G's.

I understand this completely. When I visit New York, I can't wait to eat at Chipotle and Panera. Gotta hit Applebees at least once before I go too.
For someone #####ing about cost for 12 pages, why don't you sit down nightly at any of the places near FC42's house?

Here are 3 burger specific places that the wife likes:

Bare BurgerThe Burger BistroMooBurger

I personally like FG better than all 3 of these, yet I can't walk out of any of these places for under $50 for ####### burger and fries with the wife and kid (and that is absolute minimum!)
You live in New York and there are only three restaurants near you? :oldunsure:
What I posted is par for the course where I live... These 3 burger specific places are all within walking/delivery distance. Sure, I could scour yelp/google/and walk by every restaurant in a 20 square block radius so that I might be able to find something decent in the $35-$40 range, but why would I do that when I have a tasty burger and fries meal for under $20 at Five Guys?
Because NY has better food options than anywhere else in the world. The idea that FG tops them all is ridiculous. You're either 1) lying about living in NY; 2) full of #### about how much you love FG more than all of your options being in NY; 3) or you're an idiot.
4) BC I'm not in the mood to spend $50-$75 for a burger and fries with the wife? For someone complaining about a $10 "overpriced" meal, you should understand this
Do you honestly think I've never been to New York? My company's corporate office is at 17 State St. You are so full of ####, you've got to be fishing. Congrats, you hooked me.
For someone who has been to NYC and lives in DC, its kind of funny how you rip on 5G's prices when you're living in basically the most expensive town in the USA.

Bunless double bacon cheeseburger, wrapped in lettuce, split regular fries with vinegar, diet cherry coke. Before the car was out of the parking lot the bowels were screaming. Had to make an emergency Walmart #### stop so I could avoid the "I sharted" thread. Good times.

Came up with a new phrase that should be used immediately to describe many of the patrons at 5Gs, "the morbids", because they are well, you know, that heavy.

Calling out numbers of customers as they walk in must be a regional thing. I've been to a few local 5 Guys here in FL and have never heard them do this.

Why not just say this from the get go? This is what all of us have been saying (maybe not the "normal price" part).
I don't know. I thought we were all mostly saying that in here.

Most of the discussion was on the price/value for what you get, the size of the fries and whether you should share them, the yelling, and the free peanuts.

there was some talk on the bun quality and the fact they serve all burgers well done, plus some discussion of the lack of shakes and beer and the tacky wall decorations. some complained about the wide range of toppings offered while some people appreciated that. some said the food takes too long to prepare while others think it's appropriate for food cooked to order.

some people complained that there are no other customers while some liked the fact the lines were generally much shorter than more popular chains.

different strokes for different folks, but all in all it's a decent chain that's better than most of the other options in middle America.
Where did 5Guys start (Maryland or something?)? Imagine if you lived there and you heard InNOut was coming. Everyone from all over the west coast told you how great it was. You try it. You think to yourself, no free peanuts, fries meh, I like 5Guys better. Then you go on the internet and participate in an INnOut thread and you're viciously attacked for your beliefs. You'd be thinking, what did I do to deserve this? I just like the place I like. I like my peanuts. I like when they yell at me when I walk in. I can share my meal with my lady at my place. Why am i the bad guy here? And then people tell you why is it even a comparison? They don't even have FiveGuys near them. Why bring that place up? Stop talking about FiveGuys. You'd think, I wouldn't have brought it up if all i heard was how great the invading InNOut was. And it's not like I didn't like InNout at all, I just like my place a lot and can't understand why InNOut doesn't have free peanuts. What did I say to cause this outrage? It's my money, I don't mind paying double and I split it anyway and drink water. You try to quell the fury with a few nice posts about InNOut but the fury only grows. It's a tidal wave pretty much and you're drowning. Why? How did it get to this point?
Barbara?

Figured I would hit up In and Out for lunch today to save some cash.

So I can spend around 8 bucks for a burger and fries and then another $200 airfare since the nearest location is in freaking Texas.

Now that is ####### value!

It isn't even consistent in the same city. The one I went to yesterday didn't call out when we came in. The one I went to in the uptown location did.

WTF... you're not really going to do this, are you? That'd be a really long lunch.

Still don't understand why the 5G crowd interprets "poor value" as meaning "bad food" or "so expensive I need to get a second mortgage."

I must have said a dozen times that it is a tasty burger just not a great value.

What more do you want to hear about 5G?

I have to now to make sure I get the value I'm missing out on

5G offers bunless burgers and fries well done?

Can anyone confirm this?

They have free peanuts, too...

I do not recommend getting the mushrooms, onions, and double cheese in the lettuce wrap. Unless you have a roll of paper towels handy.

But its not really "fast" food.

I don't live in DC. It's one of the many places I work though. I live in Ohio.

I know this may blow a few minds in this thread but I can get cheese fries(well done)at Five Guys and they do charge more.

I love how the 5G supporters confuse overpriced and poor value with "5 Guys sucks!"
I love out In N Out people still don't realize that they are not an option for most of America.McDonalds is great value too. Doesn't make it a better option than 5G.
How is this true? Same price, actually a bit higher than in-n-out, for vastly inferior food.
Oh come on. They are not even close to the same price.

Color scheme? Check

Protein style burger? Check

Fries well done? Check

Secret menu cheese fries? Check

I can't imagine why west coasters would feel that there was a natural comparison between 5G and In-N-Out.

How much does a Big Mac and fries cost? It's been a long time since I went to a McDonalds so I really don't know.

This thread is blowing away the "Michael Sam is Gay'' thread. Imagine the media firestorm following an NFL player announcing he loves In-n-Out.

Oh. Nevermind.

I rarely eat there. However I was there recently. My pot dealer's girlfriend had his car and he was starved so he asked me if I'd stop on the way to his place. I got him a medium combo and another sandwich for less than 10 bucks.

And can you imagine most East Coasters have never even heard of In-N-Out!

When you are paying $14 for "fast" food burger and fries, you'd think you could get a decent bun.
How the hell are you getting $14? I know prices vary a bit by region, but at the location near me, the most expensive burger (the bacon cheeseburger) is $7.59. The most expensive fries, Large, which is enough to feed a small village, costs $4.69. That's only $12.28, and you could easily knock a $1.20 off that since no way is anyone outside a professional eater going to eat a large fries.

Inferior according to who, you?

According to a survey done here just a few days ago, McDonalds french fries are vastly superior to INO

If you get a fries and burger, fries equal about 50% of your meal...

If you don't get 64 ounces of Coke and a high five from the L.A. hipster crowd, it's not actually a meal.

I will say, I never eat in the place. Five Guys is for picking up and bringing home. Or to work.

IIRC I really like McDonald's fries.

:lmao: at L.A. hipster crowd. Have you ever been to an In-N-Out? You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy...except maybe at Wal Mart.

The bacon cheeseburger, little fry, and a drink is $13.79 after tax.

That's not someone over-ordering enough fries to feed an army, or looking to split it with his family of 5.

That can easily be just a regular dude that likes the idea of a idea of a bacon double CB and would like some fries and an ice cold Gold Peak Iced Tea to wash it all down.

I order the water, personally, but it's not insane for a man to want a different tasty beverage.

I have been to many, many In-N-Outs. And yes, I agree. People who eat at In-N-Out are a wretched hive of scum and villainy. I'm glad we agree, finally.

Similar to the line outside Pinks.

I have been told in this thread 5 Guys was too delicate to take for a ride,
