Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (1 Viewer)

I've never eaten at Chipotle. This information shocked my kid as were driving home from the airport famished yesterday. Several years ago I walked into the Chipotle in Palmdale CA. It smelled like a dumpster and there were bugs BUGS on the food.

I enjoy In N Out french fries and think the hate is silly. They're fried fresh potatoes doused with salt?

We ate at Rubios. It was good.

Prepare yourselves, Del Taco is going nationwide.

Awesome crinkle cut fries, decent burgers.... oh, and kickazz "fast" Mexican food. Serious upgrade over Taco Bell but not quite as pricey as Chipotle, etc.

DT was one of the big "things I missed" about SoCal when I lived elsewhere.

Coming soon to a shopping center outparcel near you. You'll thank me later. :)

IMO ShakeShack does everything better (fries are debatable, but I prefer their crinkle cuts) than 5G or any other comparable, and they serve beer. Won't be long before they're dominating.

I don't really enjoy either one, but I think Taco Bell is far better than Del Taco. The only thing Del Taco has going for it is Taco Tuesday discounts where they sell 3 regular tacos for $1.09. You can drown in tacos for less than $5.

Some coworkers and I ate there in Colorado. It's become our go-to joke for crappy Mexican food.

Went to Burger Monger last weekend. Looks like they are in Philly and Tampa. Burger was pretty good, but overpriced. Fries seemed like they were cooked in old oil, but weren't all that bad. Liked it better than 5G and it's the same distance from my house. Will go again for burger, but will probably skip the fries.

Del Tacos are abundant here and I've never met anyone who is into them. People either hate it or are apathetic.
Loved them way back when in college, but because you'd get a crap load of questionable but tasty stuff including new tacos burgers whatever.

I used to like Five Guys but it seems like every time I have gotten a burger from them for the past year or so (I don't go often at all), there are bone particles in it. Whatever it is, there is something non-edible in there and when you almost chip a tooth on a burger it's a problem.

The people complaining about In-N-Out's fries probably don't like plain boiled potatoes, either. Some people are just picky eaters.

Went to the local beach cafe. A burger on par with 5 guys, Steak Fries (well done) that flat out rocked and a large iced tea, for about 10 or 11 bucks.

MUCH nicer atmosphere than any of the places mentioned so far, though.

So living on west and now east coast has helped me to try a lot of the fast food places. As far as the burger ones, here's my list:

1. Whataburger (TX not VA)

2. Shakeshack

3. Smashburger

4. Five Guys

5. McDonalds

6. In-n-Out (far and away most overrated)

Other places.

It's not as good anymore and has gotten more expensive.

I got 5 Guys for lunch today and wrote that post just after eating. My tooth still hurts... from eating a burger. I am done with them.

Just saw this...come on! Even if you think In-n-Out is overrated I could understand (even though I don't agree with) it but to say Mcdonalds (laced with chemicals and other questionable ingredients) is better is crazy talk.

I went to Smashburger last week in San Jose. It was pretty horrible.
What did you order? The one in San Marcos has a San Diego burger loaded with avocado and a little cilantro and jalapeno... pretty fantastic tasting burger if you ask me. Also the fried green beans are excellent. My kid thinks they have the best chicken sandwich out there. She'll get it then walk over to Chick Fil A for a chocolate chip cookie.

Shake Shack fries are straight up frozen Ore-Ida from the grocery store. Meh.
Glad I didn't order them. Got a double cheeseburger and a small shake for $14 and didn't want to drop another three bucks on fries. With tax and tip, an easy $20 for burger fries and a shake. Jeebus. That's a handle of decent vodka.

Best chain burgers, regardless of price are Five Guys and Shake Shack, but with In/Out and Whataburger half the price, they're a far better value.

WendysMcDonaldsJackinthebox are on a tier I no longer visit.

Best burgers are always at local spots in any city worth a ####

Smashburger and MighTFine are no better than WhatB and more expensive.

Double Del Cheesburger ain't bad. Along with a spicey-jack quesadilla. Fries are awful though.

If I want a burrito. El Pollo's chicken avocado, with no beans, is yummy.

Went back to In-N-Out on a trip to the West Coast recently. Their fries were awesome this time, though I had had a really bad batch back in April.

This isn't shtick; they were awesome once, terrible once, and then awesome again. The fries were five times better than the burger.

PSA:

The Johnny Rockets inside the Cancun airport is disgusting. I'd wager that crap isn't beef at all.

If you want to throw up in your mouth and have the runs for 24 hours.. eat here.

Absolutely agree with all of this. Orlando got a Shake Shack about a year ago and my wife and I went shortly after it opened. After seeing what you got for the price.....we went one more time in the 10 months before we left town. Tasty? Yes. Completely overpriced though. And yeah, 3 bucks for some Ore-Idas was rage inducing.

After moving West we have In 'n Out available again(I lived in Cali before, so I was already familiar). While it isn't 5G, or even Shake Shack, it is leaps and bounds superior to the any of the major chains available. The fries do suck, so I just skip them. There's supposed to be a couple of great locally owned joints for burgers here in Reno, but I haven't trekked to them yet.

I will admit that I sometimes still needs me a Spicy Chicken sammich from Wendy's, and their fries are actually real potatoes and not from some kind of "beef infused paste."

I mean, the major point is that Whataburger is so far and away the best that I feel the others aren't in the same conversation.

Part of In-n-Out's disappointment has to do with expectations I think. Everyone built it up, then it was just "meh." You could move it up to 3 or 4 and I wouldn't really mind, but only because 1 is so far above the rest, and 2 is much better than the rest also (thought definitely overpriced).

I think that was the burger I had. The toppings and bun were fine. However, the meat had no taste. The smash fries were disgusting, literally soaked in olive oil. I was there 30 minutes before closing, so maybe they just wanted to go home.

Good times for Fat Island!

Roy Rogers looking to comeback to LI - 3-4 locations.

3 Chik-Fil-A's on their way. One in Hicksville, 15 min from me.

Didn't realize that one of the very small number of shake shacks is 5 minutes from my house. Finally went last week.

As others have stated it's stupidly overpriced. Nearly 19 bucks for a double bacon cheeseburger, small fries and a small shake. The burger was ok but the special sauce they put on it was bitter and overpowering. Didn't like it at all. The fries were meh and the shake was nothing to write home about.

I could see myself trying the burger again and asking them to hold the sauce, but its just way too expensive. Don't see how this place is somehow the rage of the Manhattan burger scene.

Or the stupid long lines at CitiField. Better than the $hake $hack:

Pastrami Sammich (field level)

Pat LaFrieda Steak uber Sammich

The Pig Guy - Super Thick Bacon on a Stick three ways

Blue Smoke BBQ

Pat Lafrieda Burger

Nathan's Dogs vs. Shack's Dogs - AND Fries big time

Maybe:

Two Boots Pizza (heard its not a great operation so dunno)

The ol' Premio freakin sausage and peppers

World Market

Rao's Ceaser Club (never been)

Mama of Corona's (never been)

Agreed. The olive oil and herb fries are disgusting. The onion rings stuffed in a simple burger however work nicely.
