Five Guys thread, a 130+ page swordfight. (2 Viewers)

Had Shake Shack for the first time a few weeks back. Really good but REALLY pricey. People are griping about 5 Guys cost in here, Shake Shack burgers are as expensive and a lot smaller. I got a regular cheeseburger and a Smoke Shack because I wanted to try them both and ended up eating them both in their entirety with little effort. I could never eat 2 Five Guys burgers in one sitting. The two burgers and a root beer (no fries, no shake) was $16.
Best part of Shake Shack is the shakes/custard.

Just got back from 6 days in Chicago. Closest I have ever been to a Shake Shack (that I am aware of) but couldn't bring myself to try it out with so many fantastic eating options in the city.

Seriously I'm on Ohio and State and can hit up Shake Shack or Eataly. There is really no choice, I'm not passing up Eataly for any fast food burger.
I think you chose poorly.
Well of course I did, but only because there isn't an In'N'Out in Chicago.

Been to Five Guys location in FL West Orlando location a couple times and burgers & toppings cold, fries cold and way under cooked. Not impressed. When my sons now says pass on them for another burger joint(s) it's on our pass zone. Maybe it's management/owner but you would thing they would improve even if it is the busiest time of the day, quality first. Maybe corp. needs to get involved here.

And yes we did approach the management the first time.
Drunk posting?

I went to college in Oklahoma, and they had Whataburger. I didn't care for it - it seemed sort of halfway between Wendy's and Hardee's.
When?I don't particularly like either of those (also went to college in Oklahoma) and rank Whataburger far above every other fast food burger but Shake Shack. Those two for whatever reason stand head and shoulders over the rest to me.

ETA: I have an interview in Dallas coming up and cannot wait to get Whataburger after the interview when headed back to airport. Having withdrawal out here in CA. Also their ketchup is just awesome.
I probably gave them two tries in 1992-93.

You may wish to give them another shot then. They must have changed a lot in my lifetime, since I don't think I had one til around age 8 and I didn't decide they were the best til college. And I was born in 1992. :bag:

Burger Fi...I think it was mentioned. kind of an upscale Five Guys with shakes

my coworker bought because he lost a bet but I think mine was about $22 for my Bacon Double Cheese, Loaded Fries Drink and Shake

I'm a huge In-N-Out fan and grudginly went to 5 Guys this September in DC.

Prices were higher, but I absolutely loved my burger....and the fried were amongst the best I've had. I'd eat here again in a second (once my arteries unclog).

Went to INO today for the first time in a few months. Was with a group of customers in from out of state. All agreed that INO is a solid value but overrated. Same way I felt the first time I went, nothing has changed. Still prefer Five Guys.

So after eating at about every 10 dollar burger place around here I find them all remarkably similar. I guess my favorite was Bad Daddy's Burger Bar. They aren't national although they have locations in 4 states. Still they had a high quality burger and the sweet potato fries were awesome. Everybody else was kind of bunched behind them.

Had one in the airport on the way to Chicago tonight. I love eating there (airport isn't quite as good), but it is more $$$ since it is a restaurant with tip. Probably double the cost for the family to eat there over Five Guys, although some of that is milk shakes for my kids. Honestly, one of the places I like in Charlotte a lot is BT's Burgers. More like Five Guys since it is an order up front/sit down restaurant and similarly priced, but a lot more options and milkshakes. Big fan of their sunny side up egg burger and the kids love going there when we go to the movie theater right next door.

Fuddruckers.

What about BTs? I think Hickory Tavern owns the chain, but it's pretty good. Honestly, if you can get up to Fosters across from Concord Mills, their burger is pretty great. Cooked on an incredibly hot flat top...it's pretty awesome IMO.

I thought the burger at Burger at Burger FI was significantly better than Five Guys but, yes, ridiculously overpriced. I got the Burger Fi double and a fountain drink (no fries or side) and it was pushing 10 bucks.

Fuddruckers is so much better than 5 Guys. I can dress the burger up anyway I want. They do not scream at me when I walk in the door. They have ESPN on several TVs. And they have a giant cooler with ice cold beers.

Wake me up with 5 Guys lets me order a beer and watch something on the wall other than press clippings sucking their own caulks.

Burger Fi has beer and TVs. So does Bagger Daves

Not for nothin' but our 5G has TVs....three of them :oldunsure: I still like Fuddruckers a bit more, but we don't have any close by :kicksrock:
That's a step in the right direction. I haven't been in several years after, you know, THEY FORGOT THE MEAT PATTY IN MY ####### BURGER. :hot:

But the one near my house is just newspaper clippings about how great they are. No TV. No beer.

Been to my local Bagger Dave's once. Ordered a burger with a fried egg on it.

The egg was cooked solid.

WTactualF?? I'm pretty sure I even said "runny egg" (although what other kind of egg would you bother with on a burger?)

Anybody else with an opinion on Bagger Daves? Got one opening before Christmas here in Dayton.

Went like 5 years ago and thought it was pretty good

Went to another location a few months ago and thought it was kinda meh

Worth trying I guess but nothing special

Steak and Shake is the worst. What the hell are you guys smoking?
Twice I have had burgers at Steak and Shake that left me in situations where I didn't want to stray far from a toilet.

(Once each at two different franchise locations. Thought maybe the first time, it was just a single bad franchisee.)

One opened here a year or two ago, next to the Red Robin. I ate there twice, liked it both times, and it went out of business.

I thought it was an excellent burger with tons of options, but it seemed stupid-expensive. I was on expense account both times.

totally forgot about Fuddruckers until last weekend. Great burger, good fries.

East Coaster...don't get a lot of these options. My ranking:

1. Elevation Burger - love it, love it

2. Fuddruckers - like that I put my own toppings on, like the way you order and they bring it

3. Five Guys - good burger, but the fried are too greasy for me.

4. Smashburger - good burger, but the fries need help

5. Burger Fi - tough to find right near me. Have to drive too far.

6. Wendys - Hate the fried, but the burger is pretty good, although it's getting more expnsive to where the value isn't there.

--------------------------

Will not eat burgers at these anymore:

- BGR - had a lot of bad experiences at this place

- Steak and Shake - awful

- Sonic - cat food

- McDonalds - dog food

- Burger King - not sure it's food

I've been really disappointed with SmashBurger the past few times I've been there. They tend to overcook their thin patties sometimes. They should ease up on the griddle smashing. Smash fries are pretty solid, though.

Thick burgers are almost always better than thin patties, IMO.

Bad Daddy's is my favorite by far. Bacon Cheeseburger on Steroids plus sweet potato fries and a side of honey mustard. #### yeah.
