Fond Patriot Moment (1 Viewer)

I was young. Dad was in the military. He invited a fellow serviceman and family to watch the game. This was out of the ordinary. They were Patriot Fans. Decked out in Patriots gear. I never saw my dad so excited about a game. Superbowl, Bears vs. Patriots. My dad bought matching superbowl shirts for our family.

I was not much for watching football, always itching to play it when I saw it. A mild Bears fan, this was my first exposure to two groups rooting for different teams. The game started. It was exciting to root for our team while they rooted for theirs. I really enjoyed the experience. We had fun. We showed respect.

I still enjoy being around people that are not Bears fans during games. The conversation is more positive than negative. Discussions of what is good about each team and what we could improve, rarely calling for an underperforming players demise vs. what player we might get to help us out in the future.

I didn't start playing fantasy football for about 15 years after that. I enjoy knowing more about the players on both teams. It makes watching games with other fans even more interactive. I don't think the Patriots are going undefeated, but I will enjoy watching and in a sense, being there if they do. There are good fans everywhere, and I will be happy for Patriots fans for there success.

Happy Football, and Happy Holidays,

It's always nice to be around a rival teams reasonable fans. I love watching games with a good friend of mine, he is an Eagles fan, I'm a Redskins fan. It's nice to be able to give objective reasonable trashtalking back and forth. Hanging out with fans who cheer your team's injuries and stuff is very  .

It's kind of like this board. When there are a lot of reasonable people making good posts, and overall being excellent to each other the thread is normally very informative and a great read.

Your dad must have been happy when the Pats got off to a quick 3-0 lead....before the Bears went on a 44-0 run. :welcome:

It was a good time, through amazing play on the TV, and good sportsmanship in the room. Now here we are with the Patriots potentially making history, and the Bears bearing down. Watching my team and other teams go through the process of being and becoming.

That's a nice story.......and you tell it so well. (you might be to young for this one, watch Cool Hand Luke if you haven't already)

So how does your dad act now? Does he still have SB parties and show respect and be cool with the oppossing fans? Or does he have all Pats fans around him? How do you act? Are you glib, or do you have genuine fun and respect for the oppossing fans watching the games with you? It sounds like you would say yes to all the above questions. I hope that's the case. You should've learned humility and how to respect a fellow fan early on from what your story sounds like.

I for one, as a die hard Raider fan, have a ton of respect for how the Pats have performed in this era.

I admit that I am thinking it'd be awesome to have an undefeated Pats team lose to an unwinning Dolphins team though. How poetic would that be!

Go Brady, I have him in all three of my $$$ leagues!!!!

We were the hosting team in Illinois. The cool thing is we didn't and don't really have football parties. This was special. I'm around a lot of fans, Vikings, Lions, Jets, Steelers, Browns, but mostly Bears & Packers. Great rivalry, those two, for the fans. I can be sometimes glib, but sensetive enough to not get or keep someone down. I was at the Patriots Miami game last year. Patriots kept getting coffin cornered, nothing seemed to work, and getting to the 50 was an accomplishment for them that game. Welker & Moss are making a huge difference for them IMO, but their past few games are getting closer...every Pats game has a little extra to watch for this year, I think.
