Since I work overnights, I won't be able to do a whole lot of live-playing with you guys, but I'll still be around to set match tactics and trades and stuff. I'm forced to tether with my cell phone because cable and DSL companies hate people that live in the woods.

Finally got this up and running. A bit overwhelming at first, but I have some time tomorrow to start figuring it out.

Depending on what teams others pick and how quickly I get the hang of this, I'd want either Arsenal or Aston Villa.
Leaning towards Villa given the clubs others are picking. It would be fun to leave Man U, City, Arsenal and Chelsea unpicked and try to overthrow the established power structure.

I didn't realize that we actually needed to do head-to-head...if that's the case, my hectic work schedule might not work.I honestly don't think I have 5 hours/week to devote to this.

Looks like the new version works on my crappy machine. I do't know if I can commit to a league, but I can experiment with Fulham for a while.

Ok, here is what I've worked up to in my short time with the updated software:

I don't know if that's a requirement or not, but if it is, just getting it out there for the record.

Honestly, I'm not sure if it's a requirement either. If we have say 5-6 players, most of the games will be against computer controlled sides, but there will be plenty of head to head games. I think it would bebest to try and find a time where most players would be able to log on and give it a go.Is there some weeknight (say 9-11 PM Eastern, 6-8 PM Pacific) where we can try and hammer out the games? I read on some forum that the game would continue if 75% of the players were present. That seems like a decent rule.

got this from goozex finally. d/ling the last patch and the updates. i played with it some last night. total timesink, especially since i haven't a clue what i am doing really. steep learning curve for the uninitiated.

yeah it is

I started the first season not worried about things went, just trying to get a feel for it. Played until the Jan transfer window, then restarted and i'm taking my time with details this time around.

I spent a lot fo time with training before even starting the season the second time. seems to have helped as the second half of the season is far better than the first.

Getting this either today or tomorrow. In on the league. The team doesn't matter much as I don't really have a favorite as of yet. It would be nice to be good enough to not worry about relegation though. Anybody with a list of teams taken? I like the idea not to take the big clubs.

I am completely new to the game so I will probably lose my mind over the next couple days.

My shift starts at 10AM central and I enter the "nothing to do" zone at around midnight.

Count me out for any live head-to-head.

Do all of you guys play in the EPL? Not being much of a soccer guy, I was curious as to the stigma of actually choosing a MLS team. What makes the experience better or worse when choosing one of them?

The experience being better or worse is just what you're comfortable with. Name recognition with players, teams and other aspects are what should draw you to the league you choose. If you love the MLS and would know a lot more of the players, then roll with that. .02

I don't play MLS, but apparently there are some bugs in the league implementation. So, if you're looking for an authentic experience, you probably won't get it. You can poke around at FM North America, if you want more info.

Definitely no stigma. Last year in FM 10, I had just finished reading a great book about Dutch soccer called Brilliant Orange so I took over AFC Ajax and had a lot of fun. You can choose any team you want and have fun IMO.

no stigma at all... I usually play with my favorite teams (any league/country), as I usually know the players and their situation, which adds to my interest. Sometimes I dive into the smaller leagues, in the hope of doing well enough to rise in the ranks.

BTW, I usually play Spain, but have played a "career" where I hopped from team to team. I started out with Rayo in Spain's 3rd or 4th division, moving to Chivas in Mexico after only one year. Then I jumped to Newell's in Argentina and kicked the crap out of that league. Then, Atlético de Madrid (my favorite team) made me an offer and I couldn't refuse my first love.

After dominating CL and winning la Liga 3X, I made the final move to ManU to take the team back to glory after Sir Alex's departure. The team was mired in the mid-table and hadn't won any hardware in years, but I won CL twice and got a Prem title to top Sir Alex on the Hall of Fame. It was a 15 year career. I found only 1 or two players at the end that weren't computer generated.

Seems like most of us are on the west coast, so maybe a shift to 8:30-10:30 PM would be better.Thoughts?
I really don't know how head-to-head works. What's the timeframe on getting the game completed? If someone can't make a time does their side get taken over by the computer? If we could set up a team and a strat and let the computer run it then that gives everybody a lot more flexibility to miss a game here and there.I really need to do some research on this I guess.

i think we could just set up a west coast league and run through as much as we can and get all of these questions answered. Charlie frown was one that isn't on the west coast that said he was in. maybe he can do it later. :thumbup:Maybe running through the first month, seeing what kinks there are and then restart with everyone else?

That's not a bad idea. If there are 4 or 5 people that have more spare time they could probably work out the kinks in a month and figure out a set-up that would work. We could then enlarge the pool.

I am usually up until 9-10 PST. Later on the weekends.

I'm on East Coast and wanted in on the league but I don't mind sitting on the sidelines for the first go-around as I just d/l the game two days ago and haven't had much time to mess around with it.

Take a run through a season or so, keep the thread updated with the progress and if things work out, we can open it up for Season 2 or a reset.

So I'm hearing a 4-team trial run for one month, eh?

Who are the teams?

Z Machine - Newcastle

Gator - Liverpool

Charlie Frown - ?

SmoovySmoov - ?

Also, would it kill you guys to start the season in June 2010 (with January 2011 rosters)? I don't know how to adjust the start date to have half the season already played.

If I couldn't have Liverpool, I guess I would take Arsenal.

paper,rock, scissors?

Just had a fierce home and home v. Napoli in the Euro Cup semifinal. Went to their place and left with a 1-1 draw. Came back to Anfield and went behind early 1-0. Full press on from the 30th min until Pool went up 2-1 in the 80th. :w00t:

Euro Finals against Olympique Marseille who beat out Man City on PKs.
