:hot: Compare the 2 postings and how they compare Rittay and Griese...

This was Posted 11:20am PT November 11th by David Dodds, Exclusive to Footballguys.com

Quarterbacks:

14. Tim Rattay, SF (vs Car)

19. Brian Griese, TB (at Atl)

This was Posted 11/11 by Mark Wimer and Joe Bryant, Exclusive to Footballguys.com

Great Matchups:

Tampa Bay's Passing Attack vs. The Atlanta Defense (Great Matchup)

Neutral Matchups:

San Francisco's Passing Attack vs. The Carolina Defense (Neutral Matchup)

Now I'm trying to decide on a starter (AND NO I'M NOT LOOKING FOR SHARK ADVICE) and I have 2 extremely different rankings to go by. I know the "Cheatsheets" are the final word but how does Rittay RANK ABOVE Griese on the cheatsheets only to see San Frans passing attack as a neutral matchup and Tampa Bay's a great one?!?!? How 'bout some damn clarity? How 'bout some damn continuity! :wall:

I think it says somewhere that the matchups were not the main thing to go by. Plus that is paid info you are posting.

Being a shark and not an expurt, This is how I see it.The match-ups are a comparison between the offense and the opposing defense to see if there are any signficant advantages for either. Neutral=even match-up.Rattay has been hot and SF is committed to throwing the ball. So even in a neutral match-up, Rattay should post decent numbers (14th best for the week).I can sympathize with you (I got a choice of Rattay, Harrington, or Garcia for one team. Try that by the rankings) but ask instead of flame. You find it gets better results.my $.02

so go by the cheatsheets? Then why the 2 rankings.Hurts more than helps... ... especially when 2 different people are writing it

You could have a sorry quarterback with a great matchup because of who his team is playing.

Ask instead of flame. Not bad.wooooooosaaaaaaaStill looking for clarity.I know who I want to start. But deciphering these rankings and analysis is starting to become a headache. What is the best way to approach it

Learn how to use the information you're paying for before going on a tirade. We're in week 10 now....are you one of the mid-season, $12.95 guys?

What is the best way to approach it
If you know who you want to start then who cares? $20 for the season is about 17 cents per day for content filtered and analyzed for you.FBG isn't here to tell anyone who to start. They are here to give advice.Do you follow every piece of advice you hear from someone?

Matchups are not rankings. And they do not necessarily contradict each other. Matchups are how well someone should do, while the rankings are how FBGs think they will actually do regardless of their matchup. Just because Griese has a better matchup doesn't mean that he will do better than Rattay this week (even though he should). I Basically use the rankings as a tie breaker. For example if you have 2 QBs on your roster that are ranked 8 and 9 but the one ranked 9 has a better matchup, I play him because the odds are that he will do better. In this case i disregard the rankings and foolow the matchups.

For one, the two lists are done by different people so they really do contradict each other some times. That said, as others have pointed out, you want to go by the cheatsheets. As an example, if the Colts are playing the Ravens, Manning will have a tough matchup and Boller will have a great one. But the strength of the matchup is not enough to over-ride the fact that Manning is a better play.

Two people can't have different rankings for the same week? Just because Dodds see's it one way doesn't mean that Wimer or Bryant can't see it some other way. You'll see this on all other FF sites that have more than 1 person writing for them. Calm down. :censored:

Rattay is at home vs Carolina and Greise is @ Atlanta. Most teams play better at home. But you should make up your own mind anyway, we're talking about 14 and 19 here, not Manning and Q. Carter.

ouchnah broI know my stuff but I never been in a position to start one of these "types" of QB's. I subscribed to this site for situations like this and now I'm more confused then clear.I'm not going to tout records, rankings, standings or marvel in my trades. All I'm looking for is some sort of trend in the logic... and I don't see one.The Passing Matchups might encompass more statistics than the QB rankings but BOTH center around the QB himself (or herself?). There is such a drastic difference between the 2 that I had to take issue.I apologize if I didn't approach this in the most professional manner but the argument remainds regardless.

Are you really worried about who to start Rattay or Griese? If so, your season may already be over.

yes but you would NEVER compare or rate Kyle and Payton together. In my case you can. Which is why I'm in this quandry

From the top of the Passing Matchups Page:

PLEASE NOTE: This does NOT replace the Cheatsheet ranking. The Cheatsheet rankings are the final say on where we see a player for that week. The Matchup Breakdowns are simply one more tool in the box when it comes to helping choose your lineup.

It's not about the amount spent. I'm paying for a service. 10 cents, 10 dollars, 1000 pesos....I'm not rellying on any of this but seeing the drastic difference between rank and neutral to GREAT macthup makes me take pause.seems tentative

Right. It was an extreme example to illustrate how the matchups are not the same as the rankings. If you want to set your lineup this week based on FBGs, use the rankings.(Now if you want to get really confused, wait until you have a guy who's rated higher in the Top 200 and has a better ranking but still gets a lower cheatsheet ranking.)

I just blacked out

The Passing Matchups might encompass more statistics than the QB rankings but BOTH center around the QB himself (or herself?).
The QB is only one half the equation in the passing game. There's also the WR's, and the matchups are writing about both halfs of the passing game not just the throwing side.Think about this situation:If Craig Krenzel is playing a team and has a GREAT matchup and Peyton Manning is playing a team and has a TERRIBLE matchup who do you think should be rated higher in the weekly rankings? That's kind of a bogus example but what you're looking with is the same thing just not to as big of an extent. One other thing you might want to look at is the actual projections that are used as the basis for the projections. I think you'll find that there is actually very little difference between the 14th and 19th ranked QB's in terms of there projected scoring.

you might be making perfect sense but all I see is "Red Sox Fan" I can't stop twitching

seriously...thanks bro, that does make sense.Although, it still is a little frustrating that I can't get this "comparison" with similar ranked QB's
