"Former NFL quarterback rips league's breast cancer footballs (1 Viewer)

The only reason breast cancer is getting so much focus is because it's about boobs, and guys like boobs. Breast cancer has a 90% survivability rate. Why not wear brown in support of colon cancer, which has a 10% survivability rate and desperately needs funding for research? Because poop chutes aren't nearly as glamorous as boobies.
Don't know where you got your bogus stats from but apparently your got all the other shlong lovers to join your colon crusade.
And unfortunately, this it the kind of ignorance we can expect from campaigns like this. Whatever cause makes the most noise is what people take most seriously, whether the statistics back it up or not.Prostate and colon cancer kill a lot more people than breast cancer, but pointing that out apparently makes you gay.

Wrong ... get your facts straight

By the way ,,, Lung cancer kills a lot more people than either but I don't hear you campaigning for that. Just saying.

Has anyone mentioned the fact that promoting breast cancer awareness also attracts a large female audience that probably wouldn't watch otherwise?

While the cause is a good one, there are selfish motives for the NFL at play as well.

Is the league actually donating money toward breast cancer charities, or are they just spending money on pink clothing and equipment? And are they just going to throw away the equipment when the month is over?
I am too cynical. Every time I see this I think about how much $ they are spending on the ads, the clothing, just having the NFL sponser them, the salaries of the people running the charities, etc... How much of the money is actually going to what they are supposedly fighting for? Just hate it when a league makes everybody participate. I guarantee that they wouldn't let a player or an individual team do the same thing to support another cause.

Somebody had to say it. I am getting sick of all the pink everywhere you look. This is FOOTBALL. Or at least it was. I don't have any problem with the NFL making a sizable donation to breast cancer research but do we have to watch pink for a month.
Yup. over exposure can be a problem too. I wonder why they don't care about all the other kinds of cancer?
Maybe we can get one team to wear breast cancer jerseys and the other testicular cancer jerseys - it's the game of the year - Breasts vs. Testes!

Between this pink stuff and some of the horrible retro unis (some of them are good, but some of them are awful), I am starting to miss the days where teams just wore their current unis every week and that was it.

Colon+prostate cancer deaths per year are about 80,000 per year. Breast cancer deaths are about 41,000.And yes, lung cancer beats them all. But I think there's already quite a bit of awareness about lung cancer and a large number of lung cancer deaths are avoidable.

Anyway, this is not what I intended to talk about.

Hasselbeck implied that the painted logo on the ball was the reason why Favre fumbled multiple times in the MNF game. Are you buying it? I'm not.

Neither am I. Favre is the all-time leader in fumbles. He's only played 1 game with the painted logo on the ball so I wonder what the excuse is for all of the others...

Maybe if all the other players in the league were fumbling multiple times.

You want an example of how poorly the NFL is handling this "breast cancer awareness" campaign?

Last week the Browns had a pre-game ceremony to honor former fullback Ernie Green.

Green is a breast cancer survivor.

Neither the Browns nor the NFL bothered to mention this fact in any press releases or stadium announcements, even while they were mentioning other breast-cancer-awareness initiatives that were taking place this month.

Very good point.
you really believe this?

:lmao:  :(
Yes.Link

Sacking the stereotype of women as football widows, female football fans are packing the seats in sports bars and stadiums. For the 2009 NFL season, 33 percent of the television viewers and 35 percent of the adults in the stands were women. The latest Super Bowl had 41.9 million female viewers, which was more than the entire audience for the latest Academy Awards the following month.

How about a link where women say "I'm now watching foosball cause they have pretty pink shoes and chin-straps and they support boob cancer"

I don't think that this is the case at all.Female viewers are not watching the games because the NFL players are wearing pink; I don't know even one female who wasn't watching football, but is now watching football because they heard the players were wearing pink ...IMO, the Cancer Society would be far better off if the NFL simply sent them an equivalent valued check or perhaps more effectively got involved in their fund-raising instead in person ... instead of spending the $ on pink gimmicky attire and equipment.

Exactly. If my wife and I are sitting in a Chilis eating, she might be in the bar area but she is not watching the game.

Perhaps you should start your learning about women with a link that says "Women have boobs."

Ohhh you meant Colon cancer + Prostate cancer

number one killer of women is heart attacks.

so i get annoyed at all the focus on breast cancer in general, but specifically when i'm trying to watch football.
