Former STP lead signer Scott Weiland is dead (1 Viewer)

Good band (STP); GREAT frontman.

I always thought Big Empty was their best song but you don't hear it played much any more or mentioned as one of the best.
My circle of friends has been arguing Core vs Purple forever.

I'm in the purple corner but honestly I don't think there is a right or wrong answer.

I argued hard to have Still Remains as our wedding song.

Loved me some STP and Velvet Revolver. Definitely gonna revisit some of Weiland's greatest hits today.

RIP Scott

As good as STP was, he was such a great fit in Velvet Revolver. Seemed like a weird pairing at first and then that first album absolutely ruled.

One of the most entertaining frontmen I've ever been fortunate enough to see live. Weiland was just a rock star. For better or for worse they just don't make em like that anymore.

Agreed. Saw them in Milwaukee in 94. Fun show. I believe they opened for Megadeth.

Wicked Garden was always a favorite of mine. Sex Type Thing is also a great song:https://youtu.be/8hhu-OyHqZM
Sex Type Thing is one of my favorite songs ever from any band. Here I come I come I come I come....
:hifive:

Loved that STP sound. Used to love covering Sex Type Thing many years ago. Easy song to sing and the guitar riff is just cool. Wicked Garden riff is even better.

Musicians are wired differently than the rest of us. They can deliver so much joy while living in hell. Sad day for fans of rock.

In the early 90's a lot of my consulting gigs were in Wyoming - long long drives from Denver. Core and Purple were great road companions for the stark Wyoming landscape and open roads. Crank up the volume and press on the gas.

RIP

Man loved listening to STP back in the day. Hearing that he is dead today I think I am more in shock he lived this long. Kinda feels like when I heard that MCA had passed a part of growing up has been lost. RIP
This was almost my exact thought, including the part about Yauch.

Both times I pretty much felt more bummed than I probably should about someone I've never met in person and was reminded I wasn't a 23-year-old punk anymore.

RIP, Scott.

This song may very well be one of my personal favorites.

It's a slow burn. But it displays just how cool this band was. Great build up. Zeppelin influence all over it. But then you get that signature STP sound and an amazing sublime sax solo.

It's a slow burn.....but well worth the listen.

Stone Temple Pilots along with Soundgarden, Pearl Jam (Ten and Vs only for me) Temple Of The Dog, Alice In Chains, Mad Season, Jeff Buckley, Dave Matthews Band, The Black Crowes, Blues Traveler and a much lesser known band named Candlebox, rocked the 90's.

The bands above defined the 90's for me personally.

But STP for me was the one band that were the true rock star band of that era. Scott Weiland (along with Chris Robinson from the Black Crowes) was a true rock star front man. Such a huge personality on stage when he was somewhat clear headed (which was not too often).

God a part of my early 20's died today.

I remember they just showed up for a free concert on South Beach back when Shangri-La Dee Da was released. It was amazing. Unannounced and not advertised. I happened to be in the area and drove down there when my buddy told me they are playing. Sick show.

Saw them in 96 on the Tiny Music tour. Amazing show.

I'm having flashbacks to the old 99X here in Atlanta, when terrestrial radio was still relevant. So many awesome memories.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.....the 90s were the best decade of music. Period.
I was lecturing my girlfriend last night on 90's rap and how it 89-99' was probably the best period for it and afterwards it all went to ####.

(I make her listen to BackSpin in the car)

He's the Carson Palmer of death pools everywhere.

Lots of great memories soundtracked by STP. As with Layne, there was always that voyeuristic thrill as we watched them inevitably burn out. Weiland fell more on the fade away side, but as rock stars go, they were the epitome for my generation.

Just because you keep saying it doesn't mean it's true.
We need a new thread on things OPM likes.

Might be the shortest thread in FFA history,I got nothing.

It was a terrible thread title so I never opened it :D
