Just started rewatching it with my wife who has never seen it thanks to this latest bump. It’s so good. But how did Seth Rogan get in?
What do you mean here?
Through 3 episodes he’s pretty terrible. I know he’s never been Brando and he’s Hollywood royalty now but his performance here is pretty stiff.
I don’t know if he’s stiff but hes definitely the least interesting major character imo.

This show is his very first role I think
I think it's almost all of their first roles

I agree that it’s stiff when compared to his other comedic roles that followed. But I found his character pretty believable as I knew a few of those exact kind of guys in high school. Sort of quieter dudes that weren’t at the center of their respective cliques, and mainly limited their conversation to occasional sarcastic quips. He is the center of a story later in the series so he shows a bit more range, but not much.

Yes, I get that, but based on what I'm seeing so far in the series I wonder what the casting agent saw in him at that time. The other kids are all awesome, particulary Martin Starr who has me cracking up every time he's on screen.

Love this guy on screen. So good

i recall Rogan doing an interview some time ago acknowledging that he wasnt a great actor and it motivated him to write scripts so they would cast him.

This thread inspired me to rewatch on Paramount+. Does the P+ version have all the original music? I don't think I noticed when I watched years ago.

Damnit, whatever happened to Linda Cardellini?

She needs to be in something, love her.
Haven't seen her since she showed up in Mad Men a season or two back.

Super attractive as Will Ferrell's wife in both of the Daddy's Home movies. (And yes, I realize I'm responding to a nine-year old post).

And Bloodlines.
And Thelma from Scooby Doo Movies

Don't forget Sam also played Sweets on Bones

I figure this was the casting team looking for authenticity, because you can't get more authentic than Seth Rogan, who clearly is only able to act in one character.

I can’t imagine watching this show without the original soundtrack.
Why wouldn't the original soundtrack be on the Paramount + version?
Why wouldn't the original soundtrack be on ANY version?
Exactly

I have no idea. Someone mentioned upthread that the music was pulled at some point due to licensing costs. A little internet research indicates that this was very short-lived.

It's Rogen, isn't it? I mean, Google autofills it, even. C'mon fellas. Get the name right of the guy you're slagging.

He is pretty one-dimensional, I'll admit. Probably the most useless character on F & G, as was pointed out, too, so I'm not sure what my beef is.

The last time I watched it, I made a ranking of the episodes. I think this is one of the best pilot episodes ever made, and the school dance scene chokes me up every time.

Episodes ranked:
18. I'm with the band
17. Kim Kelly is my friend
16. Girlfriends and boyfriends
15. Noshing and Moshing
14. Chokin and Tokin
13. Tricks and treats
12. We've got spirit
11. Tests and breasts
10. Dead dogs and Gym Teachers
9. Discos and Dragons
8. The Little Things
7. Beers and Weirs
6. Smooching and mooching
5. Looks and Books
4. The diary
3. The Garage Door
2. Carded and discarded
1. Pilot

The guy I couldn’t figure out was the character played by the actor who was Goldberg in the mighty ducks. He’s in the rock band with the freaks, but then is hanging with all the popular kids at the makeout party. I guess he was the Ferris Bueller of the cast.

Also, the Ben Stiller casting pulled me out of the authenticity of the show a bit. I’d have to go back to see where his popularity was at the time of the filming.

I completely forgot he was even on the show. I had to go look it up and then realized it was because it was such a little, inconsequential role.

The only one of the actors that I remember being annoyed by / not enjoying their work was Busy Philipps. I think (?) I might be in the minority on this one, but I've never understood what people seem to like about her and her acting in anything I've seen with her in it.

(edited to correct spelling of her last name before rockaction yells at me...)

Have to say though his relationship with Tuba girl was one of my favorite parts of the show. Was shocked to find out she died a few years ago in her 30s.

I looked her up as thought she looked familiar and also read that she died. Sad!

I watched Ep 2 last night.
Question: Did Sam's gang really purchase non-alcoholic beer? Or did the store clerk mess with them by giving them the real stuff after hearing their plan?

It was non-alcoholic beer. That’s why folks were drinking so much and not getting wasted (the few that were tipsy just thought they were).

I loved when he was first licking the tap and then drank out of one of those mini souvenir helmets.

Such a great scene

Parisian nightsuit lmao. God, this show is gold. This one hits home cause freshman year I was talked into buying a pastel pink sweater and wore it to school thinking jaws were gonna drop. They did, just not the way i expected.

:lmao: Awesome.

Though I happen to wear pink and like how it looks on me. Doube lol.

Now sure. Mid 80s as a skinny 5’2” prepubescent looking boy? Not so much.

Sorry 'bout that. LOL. Look at you and your pink and your hairless baby face and high voice! Aren't you just adorable today!

I think that for each person here you could dredge up a story about one time we thought we were going to look all cool and then just—for whatever reason—it went over like a lead balloon. Even the less self-conscious or primping among us have our vanity moments that get shut down by more discerning eyes than ours.

Too funny.

I paid a fortune for that sweater. It was a specialty store that sold European clothes. I remember it like it was yesterday,, the salesman talked me into that particular garment. $80 back in 1985. It was worn once.

Just started episode 4 (“Kim Kelly is My Friend”) - at the very beginning in the hallway is Rashida Jones as tough girl Karen (typecast character name) in one of her earliest acting appearances.

There may be a breakthrough with my wife. I was watching the episode where Bill finds out his mom is dating Biff. I think Bill is secretly my wife’s favorite character.

During the scene where Bill is having a breakdown in the car, I noticed my wife is not scrolling on her phone but is watching intently.

When the episode is ending, she looks at me and says, “Great, I’m getting into this stupid show.”

There is hope for us yet!

Marry her (again)

Sleep with your wife

The “kids” get most of the props, and deservedly so, but the guidance counselor and Biff Tannen the gym teacher are great, too.
