Fred Jackson after the Lynch trade (1 Viewer)

Brief mentions in the Lynch thread, but looking for insight into what this does for FJax? Spiller gets the buzz/press, but the little bit I've read indicates they will still bring Spiller along slowly. I know it's Buffalo, so expectations should be tempered, but he has always seemed to produce and, at least in the near term, should be the early down back plus getting potential garbage time dump offs when the game gets out of hand.

You already answered your own question. If you have a deep enough bench....stash him...but until the Bills produce I'd be wary of him as RB2.

Buffalo is 0-4 and 0-3 in the division. season is over.

I'm sure they know what they have in Jackson. Time to see what Spiller can do.

This makes sense which means buffalo could do the opposite.....
That's exactly what I was thinking. The only thing that is going to put butts in the seats is a great opponent or Spiller doing something. Nobody is running to the box office to buy seats to see FJax play RB. At this point it's not even about whether the kid can play, it's whether the team wants to sell tickets and jerseys...

A league source tells ESPN's Tim Graham that Fred Jackson has been named the starting running back in Buffalo.

This confirms Tuesday's report that Jackson's role would be noticeably larger following the trade of Marshawn Lynch. Jackson needs to be owned in all formats and can be used as a flex option. C.J. Spiller is worth hanging onto, but fantasy owners will be hard pressed to put him in their starting lineups with Jackson seeing the majority of early-down carries.

You knew very well that Buff was going to name Jackson the starter and CJ will be change of pace back. Both are still expected to get 12-15 touches a game. Remember, Spiller is more valuable in PPR leagues as he will catch passes.

Stupid. Just stupid. I own both and have to start one this week with Mendy on a bye. I would much rather pencil in Spiller there and so would everyone in Buffalo. The kid is a RB, not a QB. There is no need to ease him along slowly unless he can't pass block. Even then, does it really matter? Those QB's might play better prone...

Gailey's unending stupidity and general incompetence is at once shocking and mind-numbing.

let me revise my projections since it's @Buffalo

v Jax

Fred gets 11 for 43 yards

Spiller gets 8 carries for 40

Bills lose 35-9.

It appears you're right...
ESPN reports that, according to an NFL source, the Bills have named RB Fred Jackson the starting running back in Buffalo ahead of rookie C.J. Spiller.(Updated 10/06/2010).Fantasy AnalysisThis move was pretty much a formality for the Bills, who are expected to use both Jackson and Spiller in the backfield. Spiller will play more of a hybrid role in the running and passing game behind Jackson. In Week 5, Buffalo takes on Jacksonville, who are allowing 101 yards per game with six rushing touchdowns on the season. Just last week, Colts RB Joseph Addai scored two touchdowns against the Jaguars. Spiller is going to see more action in the running game and will also expound upon his 12 receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown. We like Spiller as a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy RB against Jacksonville.

Spiller is on track for 48 catches in extremely limited action so far. However, I don't necessarily agree that he'll be more valuable THIS YEAR than Jackson. In dynasty, he is going to be a PPR force for years. Rare talent.
