Fred Taylor could go to Lions (1 Viewer)

As per Detroit radio this morning - there was speculation Fred Taylor or Ahman Green, preferably Taylor - could be the fill in during Kevin Jones absence this coming season.

Talk is that Coach Marinelli while in the state of Florida was a fan of JAX RB Fred Taylor and thinks he can carry the load in Mike Martz system.

Ok, so basically two guys on a radio station came up with this? Fred has never been much of a receiver, topping out at 49 in 2002. Ahman Green has been a very good receiver earlier in his career but the Packers want him back.

2 RBs whose careers are both more or less on the edge of the RB cliff and probably won't come overly cheap. I give up, what am I missing

1130 the FAN had discussed it and had sources within the organization give some names of possible replacements. They did not say they had contacted Taylor or his agent, but that he could be a fit into their offense. I also agree Ahman with his receiving skills would be a better addition.

Didn't the Lions draft the kid out of Wisconsin last season. I thought they liked him..his name escapes me.

Brian Calhoun is his name but he tore his ACL last year and the Lions don't know if he will be ready for this year.

Much to his chagrin, Fred's still under contract for next year. What kind of pick would the Lions give up? Fred is unhappy with his current contract (entering final year). Would the Lions be willing to tack on another year and give him a raise and/or signing bonus?

Personally, I think the Jags are more concerned with how to solve their QB/WR problem than they are in trying to keep Taylor happy.

I could see these names as possibilities if they are looking for an opportunity to start. I'm not sure that contract status of Taylor but I believe Ahman Green is a UFA and I'm not sure he would be all that expensive because I am not sure a lot of teams would throw a ton of money his way. I'm really expecting the Lions to look at guys like Ahman Green and Chris Brown if they do not draft Adrian Peterson.

Is this the same station that said Donovan McNabb was also coming to Det...? Sounds like these guys talk about possibilities for fun/listeners.

As a Fred Taylor and MJD dynasty owner, this would make the side of me that loves RB depth and tradebait all tingly.

But I can't see it happening.

Why are so many upset about the title? It says heard on the radio. To me that's pretty simple. Radio = speculation.

What you mean to tell me sports radio personalities make up stories and wild speculations in order to generate interest in their show?Wow unbelievable.I have Paul Finebaum here in Birmingham is the master at it.PS: The trade could workout but most likely not because Freddy and Green are going to want starter money.

I'm assuming the title has already been changed.FWIW, either signing makes sense given KJ's situation. I'd be happier with Taylor, although the last Jacksonville RB the Lions signed did alright. Not worth the $, but alright.

i dont think theres anyway they trade for fred taylor and his current contract (i believe 1yr left at 2.55 mil). jax may release freddy if greg jones is healthy enough to combo with MJD. if they release him i'm sure taylor will want more of a long term deal than the lions would be willing to give. i agree with a previous thread that puts the lions in the market for a low budget RB to split with calhoun if KJ is going to miss time (which we dont know at this point)

as a taylor & calhoun owner this intrigues me. i'd love to see calhoun get his shot. i don't think taylor goes anywhere without a long term deal or to a contender.

any detroit homers have any info on calhoun's rehab?

they should just ask Washington to trade them Portis and be done with it. KJ has been a bust since he entered this league, he's always hurt ,hasn't produced at a high level, and when he finally DID get things going this year, he got hurt. Portis has been a rock for years now, but he's still VERY young..he's got everything that Detroit would need, he's a capable receiver ( not great, but good enough) and is also a terrific runner...he'd be perfect for them..why sign older ,run down veterans like Green or Taylor? Spend the $$ and get a good , young player like Portis , or even Michael Turner.I'd even think about A-Train before Green or Taylor..A. Thomas has a lot of tread left on the tires, and he looked surprisingly good in Buffalo this season..they could get him on the cheap.

I did see a re[port the other day that the Lions could be sand bagging on K. Jones Lis franc. And that it icould be healing properly, but they are mis informing to try and create Trade interest for the #2 pick.

That would shut down any need for a RB pretty quick...

If they stay in the #2 spot and take AP then you have your answer..

:D Only the Lions would try to drum up interest in their high 1st round pick by inventing another area of need for their team. That a way to put yourselves behind the 8-ball, Lions. :lmao: Value through desperation is one nobody has bothered to try before. Points for creativity.

Regarding Peterson, does anybody really believe that a team with so many holes and talented but injured runners like Jones & Calhoun would drop the #2 overall pick on Peterson? I like Peterson a heck of a lot, but it just doesn't add up. A stop-gap veteran does...
