Fred Taylor was NOT arrested (1 Viewer)

According to his agent, Fred Taylor was not arrested at a Miami nightclub incident early Saturday.

Said his agent, "It’s nothing more than a ticket. . . . He was never formally arrested, never booked, didn’t post a bond and he has not been charged with anything. We’re pretty confident obviously that he won’t be charged with anything." It sounds minor enough not to get in Taylor's way of playing this season. Aug. 30 - 10:08 pm et

That is the spin from his agent. But the league can still slap a game suspension on him for disorderly conduct. It's their call.

That doesn't sound much like an arrest.
It's his attorney trying to downplay a summons. Many people can't seem to understand that a summons is the same thing as being arrested. Same charge, same potential penalty. Was it a blank ticket? His attorney said he wasn't charged. Of course he didn't post a pond, he was given a PTA.I do give the attorney credit, because he seems to have convinced people that nothing happened.

you are close, but technically wrong. Most citations have bonds, a signature bond, but I'm guessing he did "post" one of those, unless he never received a citation. A signature bond means "by signing this I promise to come to court" which is what a bond is, asking for anything (prop, money, or even in many cfases your "word" (sig) that you will return to court to answer the charges"

So it's equivalent to a traffic ticket. Thank you.
yes. But generally with higher levels of proof, as we don't know if a cop observed the bahavior (as in most traffic tix) or another person (in which case there attendance, desire to prosecute means they need to appear at any 'trial' to prove the charges). hell in Miami, it's likely witnesses could be on vacation. But until more comes out, I'd say this has no impact on FT playing this year. Hype it up to FT owner if u wanna steal him, or dish MJD, but much ado about (almost) nothing.

I am no lawyer but I am pretty sure most traffic offenses are not criminal infractions, disorderly conduct is. He may have walked away without being cuffed and taken in, but that does not mean it is the same thing as a speeding ticket.

I agree and disagree with your distinction being material. In most jurisdictions, the bottom line with both forms of being charged is that (1) if he fails to appear for his court date, he risks being placed in jail if he cannot show good cause and (2) the penalty for the alleged crime is the same. For purposes of this discussion, the distinction between a "traffic ticket" level of seriousness and being charged with a crime, the issue of a bond is not material.

As a side note, some traffic tickets are in fact criminal offenses, such as DWI/DUI, driving without a license and driving with no insurance. Nonetheless, many such traffic offenses are charged via citation instead of via arrest, although arrests do occur with several DWI charges. I appreciate the PR attempt by his attorney, but it's disingenious on several levels and I expect that the public will see through it soon.

In Ga you'd be wrong. EVERY traffic ticket save peeing in pub, underage drinking) ALL traffic offenses are classified as misdemeanors, even 10 over or no turn on red.Although now we are wallowing in semantics. This is no big deal. He'll be fine.
