Friday Night Lights (2 Viewers)

Great episode last night, one of the better hours of TV I will watch this year. It's a shame that this show isn't given a chance by more viewers but kudos to NBC for continuing to try.

Also, I thought the X-Men comic by the clock was out of place but was just reminded that Riggins is Gambit so hence the connection.

I just blew through season 1 in the past three days. Great show! Are the next two seasons worth watching as well?

EDIT: Lyla is SO hot... what a great ### on her.

:tumbleweed: Some of the stories in S2 were really off the wall. But then again who watches this show for the stories? :pickle:

I'm flyin' along here... just finished season 2.

The biggest surprise for me is what a hot-headed doosh the coach is. The first couple of episodes, he seemed like a nice guy.

And to Death Bytes: I didn't see any storylines that were THAT off the wall in S2. A bit out there I guess, but I've seen worse.

didn't Landry kill a guy?

Yes, the guy who twice tried to rape the girl he loves. He bashed him in the head with a pipe. Wouldn't you do likewise?

so why cover it up and get your dad the cop to help? it was clearly justified.

No argument there.

Yes, that Landry homicide story was out of place.

Creator and executive producer Peter Berg was on Bill Simmons' podcast awhile back and himself says he never liked the idea and they quickly realized that it was out of place with the show.He also indicates that the Smash and Street storylines are wrapped up and they won't be recurring characters.

The whole Landry killing a guy and having his dad being the cop on the investigation was so off the wall it almost made me stop watching. :goodposting:

Good finale. J.D.'s dad is such a weasel.
east dillon MUST beat dillon next year. i don't know much about high school football in texas, but there's no way that would happen here in pennsylvania and we have a serious high school football state. guy took his team to 2 state title games in 3 years. the second was with a FRESHMAN quarterback. if i remember right, in the state title game, the announcers referenced their opponent as being one of the top high school teams in the history of texas football. and yet coach taylor's team had the lead until the final play. and then they basically fire the guy. come on. oh and how great would it have been to see tyra going to UT and lyla to san antonio state?

A house plant could get into UT.

Unless the house plant is top 10%, it'd be pretty difficult to get into UT.

A house plant would only have to be top 50 percent.Affirmative action for shrubs.

My next season guess:

Matt's grandma has some sort of accident and dies while he is off ####### Julie somewhere and he blames himself for all eternity for taking her out of that home.

They did a great job creating a new season of storylines, Coach vs. Old QB. Also, I will miss all the leaving characters besides Tyra, she was really an annoying character.

The good news is it has been picked up for another season. The bad news is the season isn't coming until Summer 2010.

WTF?

that's a Sopranos style delay between seasons. Lots of writing needed to come up with a way to make a new season after everyone important graduates and the coach moves to a new school. Almost like starting the show over.

I've been meaning to watch this show, so I picked up the 1st season (only $15 at Wal-Mart). Just finished the 1st season and I'm in. This show rocks.

The purchase of season 2 was a no-brainer (also $15).

Season 2 stunk. S3 >> S1 >>>>>>>>>> S2

I enjoyed the first new episode. Still very good acting and script. The new characters are interesting.

We''ll see where the plotline goes from here, though. There is a bit of the old Hollywood, "Bad News Bears" element: can the coach turn around an absolutely miserable team? It's a formula that we've all seen a million times, though I always usually get suckered into it, anyhow.

Yeah, that plotline's been done many times, but it's usually interesting. In FNL's hands, I trust it'll probably be done even better than I've seen before too.The premiere got me really excited about where FNL's heading. I was worried about how they'd do losing some beloved cast members, but really, all the important ones are still there (personally, while I'd miss Buddy, Riggs, Matt, and the daughter, I think the only absolutely necessary characters are Coach and Tami). I like that it looks like the lead singer chick will play a larger role, I like her character alot. The season's a major transition and it felt seamless in the premiere.I'll stay loyal to Direct TV for a long time because they saved the 2nd greatest show ever from cancellation (after The Wire).

Crap, it started already?? What time and day now  I HATE when they continually move shows around and than complain about viewership

It's only on Direct TV (Ch. 101 Wed @ 9) during the fall (The premiere was even commercial free). I think it shows on NBC this summer.FNL screwed up and forgot to market the show to it's best audience (women) at first, so ratings sucked. DTV gave them a boatload of money to get exclusive rights to show each season first. A brilliant move by both parties, I think.
