From Fat to Fit 2025 - I Really Mean It This Time! (2 Viewers)

Family was giving me some light ribbing about my strength training tonight (I don’t add muscle mass easily), but wife and daughter did note that “dad is starting to look like he has trapezius muscles……”

Good times
After a bike ride the other day I was talking to my wife and took my sweaty shirt off and my wife said "oh wow, you're getting that "V"!"

Not too bad for a "senior citizen" I guess.

Dangerously close to One-derland! Of course today is a family birthday party and I have an event tonight. Will try to stay clean.

I wish I was getting the "V" but alas not today, or yesterday, or the day before that... :cautious:

It may be rare or even unrelated or whatever but I read one story where a woman who was in one of these drugs had massive bone density loss. It basically destroyed her body. I think the message was you have to be extremely careful about maintaining proper diet and or exercise with these drugs or they will interact with you body in damaging ways. To be fair I haven't put in much research. In general I'm skeptical about "miracle" weight loss drugs and worry about what future negative findings may come based on past drugs developed and their eventual bad outcomes.
Well, if you care to look, some data is out there: Systematic review
Results: Based on the articles included, the animal studies indicated the salutary skeletal effects of GLP1RAs in opposition to what has been commonly observed in human studies, showing that these agents have no impact on bone mineral density (BMD) and the turnover markers. Moreover, it was demonstrated that GLP1 was not associated with fracture risk as compared to other anti-hyperglycemic drugs.
Conclusions: Findings from this systematic review have demonstrated the neutral impact of GLP1RAs on BMD. Moreover, further double-blind randomized controlled trials are needed to draw more meaningful and significant conclusions on the efficacy of GLP1RAs on BMD.
Meanwhile, we know these drugs are nearly as good as bariatric surgery for sustained weight loss, 3-4X as good as behavioral modification alone, and improve the risk from multiple obesity complications (e.g. diabetes, cardiovascular disease, heart failure, kidney disease, sleep apnea). As a result, all-cause mortality is reduced 10-20% in those taking GLP-1 agonists.

I certainly understand your reluctance, but at some point, hesitancy over potential problems has to be weighed against the growing body of favorable data, and ongoing harm caused by excess weight.

Did I mention she's blind. ;)

I like moving my body, but I hate just going to the gym or going for a run. I need some sort of sport or something to keep up with my workouts. So for the past couple months I have settled on this

Sunday - doubles tennis. Decent 2 hour workout.
Monday - basketball. Sweaty mess after this 2 hour game.
Tuesday - bouldering. Great core and upper body workout (my kids have climbing practice so am there for 2.5 hours regardless)
Wednesday - rest day. Make a good dinner and watch a movie with the family. Maybe do an at home stretching/yoga thing
Thursday - bouldering again (kids have practice again)
Friday - just a very long walk during lunch - like 1.5 hour walk, listen to a podcast or music. Enjoy being outside.
Saturday - family climbing. Not as intense as the other days for the wife is just starting, but a fun family activity. If no climbing I will go for a good bike ride.

Ok, I've been walking a half mile a day (during the week), pushing for 6k+ steps/day, had 4 pilates classes over the last two weeks....

Played against a friend in Sunday League Soccer yesterday. He was defending me and I beat him on a run down the field. He asked if I had been working on my speed. Nope, just some pilates classes. Seems to be helping!!!
He said "Pilates? That makes weird muscles hurt". He is not wrong.

Thank you for that. I really appreciate it.

Hear ye, hear ye! There is a new visitor to ONE-derland! It may be a quick trip as my eating schedule is off today, but was nice to see a sub 200 number after being 234 pounds in December.

Did OK in Vegas for a conference. Coming off a cold from the last convention in Nashville so alcohol didn’t sound good. Not one drink in 4 days. Ate OK with the choices I had. Glad to be getting back home and on the program hard. Time for that next leap

49 years old. 205 lbs. Was 205 when I left basic training for Army 25 years ago. Until knee made it impossible I literally ran 10-15 miles a week for decades. It was my therapy. Then running was forced to stop. Have never done gyms. Always body weight workouts. Tons of options for people. I work out half the year. Pretty hard. Posted that for context to my question:

Anyone got personal info on creatine monohydrate? Never been a supplement guy. Researched creatine monohydrate and just purchased some gummies. Please don't give me powder speech I just don't want mixing shakes as part of my routine. Popping a gummy seems nice.

Yeah, I love creatine not only for strength/muscle building but the cognitive function. The main problem with gummies is you need at least 5-10 grams daily and that's cost prohibitive in gummy form. I pay around $20 for a 3 month supply. On another note, I find your apprehension toward stirring drinks comical :lmao:

I had a vacation and then 2 weeks of meh. Then had family issue with my Dad - gained 4 pounds and feel like crap. Back at it.

I'm glad youre back on it. Exercise is the only thing that holds my head during times of loss and gives me something else to focus on. And obviously once you're done you feel much better and have more mental clarity. Keep it up

I'm a weird guy. I'm a very very routine orientated guy. Every morning routine is the same. Life is a checklist for me. Mixing a shake and clean up every day isn't me. Ha ha. I found 90 count gummies for 18 bucks. 2 gummies is 5 grams. So 45 days for 18 bucks seems reasonable. Do you take daily? Even on non workout days? How many grams is your sweet spot?

That's not a bad dose for 2 gummies. I was afraid you'd have to consume a handful with all the real or fake sugar added for sweetness.

I started with 5gs daily for 3 months but found 10gs to be my sweet spot. Should be noted, I've been on a muscle gain/strength training program and have gone from 195 to 210 with the help of creatine and increased calories i.e. not looking to drop pounds just burn fat. You'll definitely gain some water weight and get a little bloated with creatine. I think with your current routine, 5gs daily would suffice. Take it everyday even on rest days so it satiates in your muscles. We're the same age and roughly the same weight so I'd do a little trial/error to see what works best for your body but 5gs daily is a great base.

Good post. Appreciate it

246.5 on January 6th. Was probably close to the same on February 2nd when I had my STEMI.
Since then, I haven't had beef or pork and severely limiting my saturated fats. I have been following a pretty consistent no/low sugar diet. My protein comes from chicken, turkey, fish, and a lot of beans, mostly lentils. Tons of veggies. I bought some various Impossible Meats (sausage, burger patties, meatballs) at Sprouts and will see how those work as an alternative.

I have eaten a lot of fish in the past month after not eating it at all for the first 54 years of my life. I have been mostly having Ahi Tuna, good canned yellowfin tuna, swordfish, and whatever I can blacken without a fishy taste (cod, tilapia, orange roughy).

4 mile walk every morning without fail.

I weighed myself this morning and was at 230.1. My first goal is 220. I haven't been there in 10-15 years.

I'm feeling good.

That was a pretty big jump. My boss was hit with the same, and she was speaking with a different doctor who was shocked. The doctor said she tested glucose around the same time she got the A1C, and the numbers didn't seem to correlate. The other doctor now wants to do an independent testing of A1C as she feels there could have been a lab error. Hope you are able to get it under control.

I've spent the week sub-200, although I was creeping up a few days in a row. Once I'm firmly sub 195, I'm going to increase the calories and start riding my bike regularly. I'm doing a ride with Bo Jackson in May and need to get my stamina back. Speaking of "back", my back is feeling pretty good after physical therapy. I think I'm going to go ahead and set up the golf lessons that my wife got me for Christmas.
