Yes, 1500 will not be my maintenance goal. I'd like to get back to 2000 - 2200 but until I get there, I'll stay in the 1500 category. Metabolism plays a big role in this as well, and as I get older, it gets slower. It will take a lot more activity to burn off those extra calories, whereas younger people just burn them by breathing. That’s like one of my meals. It's hard to out-exercise a bad diet. Once you get past the initial pangs of hunger, it becomes a lot easier. I'm usually in the 1500 calorie neighborhood and rarely feel out of sorts unless I really over exert myself. My plan is to get to a weight I like, then add more calories in as I intensify exercise efforts.Eating junk food. Drinking too much. I’d say not exercising, but I’ve been good the past couple weeks doing run-walks. Did 8 miles today. Overdid it and did 6 miles two weeks ago with a lot of running and my knees were wrecked for days. Too much too fast. So I’ve been walking with a little jog mixed in each day since then; usually 3 miles, some days 5-6, today 8. If I can keep doing that, and avoid the night time junk food on the couch, even with a little alcohol I should be OK. Had almost 20,000 steps today, 1400 “move” calories burned. What's the habit you need to break?
It is kind of funny that the common response to improving a diet, or in response to a “bad diet” is cutting calories. Sure, if the goal is to lose weight that makes sense. But it’s often the response even if just being healthier is the goal. Which is where many go wrong imo.
And you are right, it's not just reduced calories, but healthy calories. Eating 1500 calories of doughnuts isn't going to help anyone
