Funny how opinions change (1 Viewer)

Draft Winners & Losers

5. Dallas Cowboys: The Cowboys wanted a running back and a cornerback at the top of the draft. They ended up getting more than that. Felix Jones is a perfect back to augment Marion Barber, a physical back who tends to wear down. Jones can be physical, but he's also a receiving threat out of the backfield. Cornerback Mike Jenkins was a bonus. Most teams expected Jenkins to go in the top 20, but the Cowboys were able to trade up to get him at No. 25. Now they have Terence Newman, Anthony Henry, Jenkins and Pacman Jones, if he's reinstated. A once-thin position is now deep.
How contrary to all the opinions prior to the draft that he couldn't be physical or break tackles, and was not a good receiver. The quote stood out to me since I've been one of the biggest promoters of Jones, but I wonder if it also has happened to other prospects.

I think my little blurb about his coaches not letting him return punts because he didn't have good enough hands is about the only thing I've ever heard anywhere about his hands being suspect. Can you link to any profile or review other than mine questioning his hands?

And saying he can be physical and a receiving threat is not saying he's physical and has great hands. Most RBs have the hands to be a receiving threat. Felix is like that. Some are special. Felix isn't. As far as him being physical. Steve Slaton can be physical, that doesn't make him a physical runner. Felix is similar, not as strong in the upper body though. Slaton has special receiving skills though. Charles is more physical and has similar hands to Felix. I think you're trying too hard to validate all your praise.

He's in a nice situation in an offense that opens up nice holes and big plays all the time. He should do well. Should they have taken him over Mendenhall?

And Dallas denied having Mendenhall second on their board, therefore Felix wasn't first.

Pat Kirwan has stated that Jones likes to bounce it to the outside too much which you can read however you want...at the college level, some guys do this cause they feel that they are faster than most LB's, not that they do not like contact.

Just because a blurb agrees with you doesn't make you right or wrong. I think the truth lies somewhere in between. I know Jones is suppose to be the perfect complement to Barber but I wonder why Dallas went for a part time back instead of a starter (Mendenhall).

I read many other profiles questioning his hands, and saying he wasn't physical. And I'm not really sure what's italicized is not a contradiction.Anyway my intention wasn't to talk about Felix, but rather how people seem to change their tune about players after the draft.

And Dallas denied having Mendenhall second on their board, therefore Felix wasn't first.
Yeah, I didn't really think so... which I thought was obvious with my comment about believing ESPN at all LOL

Again, why is everyone missing the point? I could care less whether the blurb agrees or disagrees, just that the opinion seems to have changed from before to after the draft. As for Jones over Mendenhall, just take a look at the Dallas newspaper, it's covered in detail.

I'm sitting at 1.4 in my main dynasty rookie draft. I have Marion Barber. I was thinking Jones all the way before the draft, knowing that the Cowboys would probably take him there. Now that it's happened I'm thinking more about K. Smith and Forte more though I think Jones is the better talent. Not really sure why I am thinking this way. I think he's a great talent, but do have questions now. Can he run between the tackles? Will he be in RBBC forever? Can he produce well in a RBBC? Will I regret taking him if Smith becomes a 3 down back and excels? Could Forte do what Benson never seemed to do? Not sure. I have until after the 2nd preseason game to decide...

Do you have a quote from the same guy with a different opinion? If not, I don't get it.
