Futures Game (1 Viewer)

Did anybody watch it?
Saw a couple of innings. Anthony Gose made a major league play in CF. Billy Hamilton is kind of funny looking and uncorked a terrible throw from SS.Jae-Hoon Ha is supposed to be a 4th OF type because of his bat. But he muscled a HR to the opposite field and then misjudged Hamilton's fly ball into a triple. The pitchers you've all heard about have great stuff and less command.Nice crowd especially considering the weather.

Castellanos
Yes, tuned in just in time for that blast. Too bad he can't play middle infield, I'd bring him up sooner.usa today:KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Nick Castellanos is making a good case for playing exclusively in major league ballparks, but a leap all the way to the Hall of Fame is a bit overwhelming for the All-Star Futures Game MVP.The Detroit Tigers third base prospect was still trying to soak in his three-hit, three-run, three-RBI performance today in the USA's 17-5 victory against the World when a representative of the Hall of Fame asked for the 20-year-old's bat.He could barely get out the words of agreement."I went to Cooperstown when I was 12," said Castellanos, who's batting .371 in a season that began at Class A Lakeland (Fla.) and continues at Class AA Erie (Pa.). "The names that are in there … and now my bat?"Castellanos was playing his second game in a big league ballpark. The other was the 2009 Under Armour All-America Game in 2009, after his junior year at Archbishop McCarthy High School in Southwest Ranches, Fla. He also was MVP in that one, played at Wrigley Field.Still, playing in front of a major league size crowd (40,095) was a new experience, as Castellanos admitted to USA manager George Brett."He said, 'This is incredible, 40,000 people, I've got to calm down,' " Brett said.Castellanos, the USA DH, did after striking out in his first at-bat.He walked and scored in the fourth, singled to start the sixth, then capped the nine-run sixth with a three-run homer and added a single in the seventh. So much for hanging onto the hot bat, which Castellanos broke out specially for the game."If I had to sit in this chair before the game, that's exactly how I would have written in," said Castellanos, a first-round pick in 2010. "Come back from a bad at-bat, hit a home run on a 3-2 pitch, then get another two-strike hit. As big a stage as I was set on, I was able to stay within my game, which is hitting line drives."That was the message from Hall of Famer and former batting champion Brett."The adrenaline was flowing," Brett said. "These guys were excited. They've got people in the stands for batting practice and all they want to do is put a show on, hit the ball in the water fountain. That's not how you're going to swing in a game."Brett's message was strong enough to help produce a USA run total that was higher than the total score of any of the previous 13 Futures Games."He gave us a pretty rousing speech," said Brewers infield prospect Scooter Gennett, one of 12 USA players with at least one hit.Houston Astros first baseman-outfielder Jonathan Singleton also had three hits and Kansas City Royals outfielder Wil Myers had three RBI.
