Game of Thrones, tv only, books don't exist, no backstory...NERDS already ruining a series that hasn't started (4 Viewers)

I have to say I don't really care about Dany, she just doesn't have the chops to carry a character of such importance.  Nice to look at sure, but she's nowhere near the actress that Sansa or Arya are.  She has far less gravitas than Snow, or Ramsey or Davos.  She's a glorified sand snake.  She is Elizabeth Keen to Jon Snow's Reddington.
funny- I was thinking the exact opposite watching her work in that last episode. how far she's come as a character and actress (although- tbh- she portrayed the weak, early Dany pretty well.)

She isn't really that great to look at.   She's also got the most ham fisted writing.  I hate slavery!   My dragons! Fire doesn't hurt me!   I am tough but fair!   Serious speech!   Repeat.  The worst was when she stopped the dothraki in some random spot in the desert to give another speech when they were halfway home to Boreen.  Ate you guys ready to fight!   Are you guys ready to get on some boats!   Let's do this!  Yeaaaah!  OK let's get back on our horses,  still a day and a half ride back to the city.

Going back and watching season 1 and (episode 8 I think)  Sam references a time he had been in the library in the past and something he had read about the White Walkers.  My guess is he will hold the key to finding an ancient secret to putting an end to them.

Agree that Dany has had the worst writing in the show.  And when she is delivered decent content it usually falls flat.

For there to be major losses at sea, something would have to happen to the dragons.  Have to figure they'll get across without incident.. Obviously Euron will play in eventually.. I really can't start to imagine how at this point, as long as there's fire breathing air cover.
Nothing a dragon could do about storms.

Yeah, I think the #### that was season 5 has made a lot of you forget how brilliant the first few seasons of this show was.
Was just talking about the lameness that was season 5, today.

That said, pretty stoked on season 6. While not the best overall, definitely had some awesome best of moments.

Nothing will ever top S1 IMO. The scale and production has ramped up, but S1 is the OG. Tighter storytelling, better storylines and we still didn't know exactly what we were in for. The show has had a lot of holy #### moments, but it killing Ned will forever be the high point.

Just started re watching from beginning.  Watched first 3 episodes of season 1 last night.  Forgot how much of an ### Jamie Lanister was.  His character has changed so much

Exactly, and like the above Koya said, there are still wow moments from this season.  I am sure it's a combination of factors: streamlining the story since we are approaching the end game, viewers are understanding what is going on and what we are building up to, etc..  I just think it says something when so many posts in here are "I think x, y, and z will happen in the next couple episodes", and it happens that way.  Just a lot more weekly surprises during the first few seasons that puts them ahead of this past season for me.

Probably wanted Jon within range of all of their arrows at that point too. Once he was there by Rickon, that first volley that hit all around him. I thought maybe the burning flayed men things might have been some kind of distance markers too, but I know nothing about archery.
Burning flayed bodies are the preferred distance marker for competitive archers. The flames make them easy to spot for quickly figuring the range, plus the smoke helps with judging the wind. Though the Olympics banned their use in 1996.

Jaime, Cersei, and Joffrey Lanister are poster children of bad parenting.  Brienne showed Jamie what knighthood stands for, and losing a hands would be a game changer for him.

I liked the writing for S1

Red wedding was the only thing to come close to Ned's execution in terms of wow factor.
Agree, but the internet slightly ruined it for me. I didn't know what was going to happen, but I knew something big was coming. Ned was just a total blindside. It did such a great job of setting us up. It made so much sense for Ned to go and join up with Jon at the wall. Then Joffrey such officially established himself as one of the great villains ever.

My mother wishes me to let Lord Eddard join the Night's Watch. Stripped of all titles and powers, he would serve the realm in permanent exile. And my Lady Sansa has begged mercy for her father. But they have the soft hearts of women. So long as I am your king, treason shall never go unpunished. Sir Ilyn, bring me his head!

Even then it played off the cliche "saved from the gallows at the last minute" so well. Then boom. Head removed.

Except avoid them by flying above.
I don't think that would help the ships...  I suppose the dragon could grab a ship and carry it above the storm?  Of course, for a dragon to fly, it would have to have hollow bones and be pretty light, so I don't think the weight ratio's would play out very well.  Perhaps all 3 dragons could lift a single ship, maybe if they gripped it along the hull?

I thought it was out of character for Eddard to confess to something he didn't do.

Also, Eddard had no one to help him out. His "army" was taken care of in the throne room, two prepubescent girls, and who were where he was? No one. Robb was away with a huge army but Ned was going to be dead by the time Robb gets there. All others loyal to Ned would have gotten word too late. He had to look to save his daughters and hope everyone else could take care of themselves. Plus, he thought, I'm pretty sure, that Cat still had Tyrion as some bargaining chip. But, she didn't.

My point had nothing to do with the ships, just that the dragons could avoid the storms by flying above them if they wanted to. The ships are on their own if storms hit.

Thinking back on that, kind of surprised Joffery didn't get more  flak for that as I thought "Taking the Black" was an automatic do over; in that there was no crime so bad that you couldn't just say "I'm taking the Black".  IIRC, even Sansa said something to that extent to Theon this past season.

* Yeah...I know Joffery was the King and was crazy and noone was going to stand up to him in regards to that point.......

I think that goes out the window once a Lannister puts an arrow through the heart of another Lannister, mid-####.
Yeah, I don't think he's playing her, but I do think it would be interesting to see him have to choose at some point between Dany and the only member of his family who ever cared for him.

I didn't realize it was so completely obvious to those apparently much smarter than me.
The timeline is a bit off - as it's apparently quite a bit after the events we see in Kings Landing.  Varys went to Dorne to meet with the Dornish and Tyrells.  At that time Olenna Tryell already knows what happened to her grandkids in Kings Landing.  An alliance was forged, and all the ships (both Dorish and from Highgarden) not only cross the Narrow Sea, but go all the way to Meereen to pick up Dany and crew.

(the only other explanation is that the final shot we see is after Dany and crew made a stop in Dorne to rendezvous with all those other ships, meaning they are much closer to Kings Landing than we thought)
