Game of Thrones, tv only, books don't exist, no backstory...NERDS already ruining a series that hasn't started (7 Viewers)

It's torture having to wait seven days for the next episode. This show is so damn good.
Not there with you guys anymore.  Loved this last episode, but IMO that is still just two great episodes in the last 12.  They have rekindled my interest and I hope they keep the pace, but I could see equal chance that they have episode filled with the Sand Snakes, Dany doing nothing, and Bran just talking to a tree without great flashbacks.  If I read correctly, I think they are looking at about 20 more episodes total for the series - I am hoping they can stick the landing in the next couple years and last night was just a taste of the quality yet to come.

Next week should be gold just for the fight scene if nothing else, but the preview makes it seem like a couple more interesting things will also be happening.

Wun Wun ex machina?

I think I disagree with the room on the Bran storyline. The ability to "travel" across vast amounts of space/time, when everyone else is slogging around on foot and relying on, is incredibly powerful. For instance, he could figure out Jon's true parentage. And almost certainly that power is going to be used to deal with the real looming threat from the North. That's pretty fascinating stuff.

Everyone's wary of teen/kid actors ever since AJ and @Chris Brody, but I think he's fine.

While I generally loathe weekly power rankings this would be a fun exercise to do on GoT.  It's amazing how my rooting interest change as the story unfolds.

Top 3 most loathed characters after week 2:

1. Ramsay
2. Cersei
3. Allister Thorne

Top 3 favorite characters:

1. Tyrion
2. Ser Davos
3. Tormund

Jamie, Sansa, Theon, Littlefinger, Khal Drogo and a whole bunch of other characters have been on the loathed or favorite list for me at some point in time.  What an amazing show.
Why would Khal Drogo be loathed?

I think a lot of us agree with you about the interesting possibilities Bran's current situation sets up. It's just that we didn't always enjoy the all the scenes spent getting to this point for his storyline. I haven't had a problem with the actor at all.

Has it really been more than necessary? He was gone the whole last season. Every storyline has to be extremely streamlined, given how many of them there are.

Huh, just watched the previews - those were Umber banners coming into Winterfell, and talking to Ramsey.
Didn't watch. They show too much in those and then I have a good idea what to expect. I much like getting the kids to bed and then getting the saved on DVR going and go with the story from there.

But now that you KILLED that for me. <_<  Would Umber be coming to talk, fight or already an ally? They basically said that House Umber was a very loyal House to the Starks. If House Umber is for whatever reason allied with Ramsay and presumably Rickon went to House Umber for safe keeping....  But wasn't House Umber also the House that sent the Raven saying only a Stark would ever rule the North or something along those lines to Roose?

This is like The Sopranos all over again.  Unless two major characters get whacked, another one comes back from the dead, there's a great scene by Tyrion, some cool special effects with a giant then I'm just not interested.   This is how crap likes TWD gets made.  Everybody complains about character building and positioning future story arcs so instead they get lazy story telling and bad writing pushing stories forward with minimal time investment.

Doesn't have to be streamlined, just interesting. Most of Bran's story after getting pushed out of the tower up to now hasn't been the most riveting screen time.

My Top 3 Most Hated right now would be:

1. Ramsay

2. Sparrow

3. Olly (just wanna see Ghost go to town on that little weasel)

Like I said before this show has done a masterful job of making me feel empathy for Cersei. Never would've thought was possible before last season since she's such a truly despicable character. I still want to see her pay for her sins but not until the High Sparrow gets his first.
I was late to the GOT party but watched all seasons on HBO last year and the both episodes this year.  I have trouble with remembering people's names for some reason.  For example, not sure who Olly, Allister Thorne, or Tormend are.  I am sure I would recognize them if shown a picture though.  I had no idea who the guy was that threw the dude off the bridge like Han Solo.  To be honest, didn't know the old dude's name that Han Solo'd off the bridge, other than he is Theon's dad.

Olly = the kid at Castle Black who they took in after the Wildings ate his family and then turned on Jon Snow being part of the group who killed Jon.

Allister Thorne = the jerk who has always been jerky to Jon Snow (calls him Lord Snow). Leader of the group who killed Jon Snow. The guy that was telling Ser Davos to surrender when they were locked in a room with the body of Jon Snow.

Tormend = the big red haired wildling leader who said to Allister Thorne "Until you." when Thorne was going off how they held Castle Black for thousands of years. Was in the room hoping the Red Lady could bring back Jon Snow.

Also- the guy who threw Lord Greyjoy off the ladder was just introduced to us. It seems it is the brother of Lord Greyjoy who left and is now back and decided to kill Lord Greyjoy to take the Salt Throne for himself (presumably).

Good catch.  I mean  they only called each other "brother" 7 or 8 times.

I don't see Thorne as a bad man.  To me, he seems to be in the same vein as Tywin Lannister, Roose Bolton and even Ned Stark....pragmatic men who deal with the issue at hand.  He's not sadistic. He's not evil.  He just wants to defend The Wall.

Yes. House Umber was also the House that Asha and Rickon were going to go travel to.  Ramsey also mocked them when he asked if Theon knew where he was when he was first torturting him?  "Last Hearth....what do I look like, a ####### Umber?"

In a way, prob more like Ned than the others. Ned was principled and it didn't matter what the end was- how you did it was the most important thing. While Tywin and Roose only cared about getting what they wanted and didn't mind much how you got there.

Thorne is unyielding committed to the Watch. I think he did what he did because he was committed to those principles. Ned would have come to a different conclusion but was likewise ruled by principles.

Tywin and Roose would have killed Jon Snow much, much, much earlier because he would have been a threat to being Lord Commander.

Tywin certainly had a chance to.  He could have signed off on a killing of Jon Snow while he was The Hand.  IIRC, Roose sent his tracker to the The Wall to look for Bran/Rickon.....but it wasn't neccessarily to kill Snow.  He inasmuch agreed not to kill him right before he got killed by Ramsey.

I think most characters in the story (book and show) are too nuanced to be classified simply as good and evil.

Was the Raven from them or was that another House? The Raven basically saying the North would only be ruled by a Stark.

I wonder if the Umbers are coming to establish Reckon at Winterfell?

Why would Khal Drogo be loathed?
Drogo's initial treatment of Dany made him hate him.  Kind of reminds me of how Ramsay treated Sansa after getting married, although Ramsay was much crueler both physically and mentally.  It wasn't until Drogo valued her as his Khalessi rather than a piece of property did he become a character i could root for.

Might be time to put down Bubble Witch 2 and actually watch?

This. Hilarious how people admit to not paying attention during the show and then end up asking VERY basic questions.

Is it really that hard to put your phone down for 52 minutes and pay attention to your "favorite show"?

I get what you're saying here.  I do feel that Thorne did what he thought was right, but only what was right if it was in his best interests.  Like killing Jon Snow to save the Watch but also by killing Snow he would become Lord Commander.  Anyway my hate for him probably stems from season 1 and his consistent crappy overall treatment of Jon Snow.

Thorne's principles must've been left back in his bedchamber when it came time to defend his buddy that Jon Snow decapitated.

Thorne is an opportunist, had it in for Snow the entire time, and never bothered to let what was best for the Watch get in the way of his vendetta.  He bided his time, and arranged the murder of the Lord Commander.

Ned Stark would have sat up there and frozen to death, with his principles, feeling superior.

They can't kill Ramsey this season IMO. He's on Joffrey level as far as being so good at being hated. Need him around. Would be great to see him continue to viciously decimate the North in cruel fashion and then get murdered by a White Walker or something when they start moving south.

- The Sparrow thing has never rung true for me really. It's never made sense to me that the Lannisters and other houses would just let themselves be run over by this religious gang. I guess the "people" are in the background somewhere but where was all this populist orthodox religious fervor before it was needed plot-wise? Everything we see in the story is a kingdown which is generally libertine, licentious and bloodthirsty. The pious and bookish need to stay out the way.

- About Cersei, it's obvious that's what they're going for, but she has always just been about her children, Jaime and oftentimes her father. Nothing has changed for her, except that now in the place of a monster she has a pretty decent child who could actually be a good king, but she will do anything and everything to make that happen.

To be fair, I don't think the show did nearly as good as the books as describing how and why the Sparrows gained their power.

Sometimes this show asks too much.

Son and prince heir kills his father, there are two witnesses, the baby crown prince to be is murdered and there are no repercussions?

Problem is with the really bad guys, they don't seem to get the horrible deaths we hope for.  That seems to be left for the good guys.  See Lannister, Joffrey.  He got off pretty easy in this world.
