Overall I liked it.  I stumbled on a fan prediction that had to have come from reading spoilers that 100% nailed how the final episode played out.  When I read the "prediction" I thought it sounded like possibly the worst way to end the series.  The way they did it in the show worked.  

Sad the show is over, but it was a good run.

I am bracing for the run of "Netflix ruined how we talk about shows" articles.  

HBO has nothing in their pipeline and neither do any networks. It's sad.  I sort of like the weeklies. 

I was thinking something along these lines today. GoT was almost a decade of world and character building. There's something about dropping in on a regular basis for years and years that creates both anticipation and familiarity. 

Binge watching a show really does change how we relate to these shows and characters IMO. They make a bigger initial impact, but then those connections with the characters fade more quickly as we form connections with characters from 20 other shows in the year before the next "season" comes out.

I thought the complaint was in hindsight the episode didn't mean much because all the major players survived laying in the piles of zombies.   I think Ep2 and Ep4 were two of the better episodes of the last couple seasons.  

Episode 2 was the best of the season easily.  Really great dialogue and set the mood.  I wasn't as impressed with episode 4.

I'm disappointed...   Really the only way I can put it.  The dialogue was ok in this episode, the action was sparse but good.  Some really good moments, but the ending was just stupid.  I'm sorry, but if you're satisfied with this ending then you obviously don't care about 8 seasons of character development and world building, because none of it made sense.  It was literally just fan service as much as possible and setting up a future series set 10-20 years later.

First...  There were as many, and likely MORE northmen in the attack on the King's Landing than there were Unsullied and Dothraki, yet we're going to believe they just let the Unsullied take Jon captive without a fight?  Even moreso... the unsullied didn't kill Jon on the spot?  Neither makes any sense whatsoever.

Two seasons ago Bran was like.... I can't be a Lord, I'm the 3 eyed Raven.   Now.....  #### yeah.  I'm the King!

Yara wouldn't even cede to Dany when she had 3 dragons.  Now Tyrion's like.... "Hey, lets make this northman king."  and she's like... "yeah, cool with me."  And let's not even start on Dorne.

There's like 300 lords in the realm, yet these dozen get to choose the ruler for them all.... except Sansa of course because we need a strong female character to have a "victory" to avoid SJW outrage.

"Jon.  You were bad.  Go to the wall." ....  "Um, ok.  What am I guarding against again?  And you're sending me to guard another kingdom's border since the North is no longer part of the realm?  I mean, I'll go...  I need to hug Ghost and tell him he's a good boy to make twitter chill out and all, but seems lame."

Sam's not even a Maester, yet now he's the Grand Maester?  Ok.

Pod's not even a Knight, yet now he's on the Kingsguard?  Ok.

Brienne has spent her entire story arc trying to protect Catelyn's girls and now one is a queen, but instead of being the head of her Queensguard she stays to command the Kingsguard?  Ok.

Bronn, who's spent the entire series whoring and fighting is now Master of Coin.... but he's funny!  

Davos as Master of Ships instead of Yara, who literally did nothing but build ships and sail and fight this entire series.

Really, the only ending that made even a little sense was Arya's.  She's brave, independent, and full of adventure.  I can see her wanting to discover the world.  Everyone else.... stupid, but hey it was good theater so YAY!

I think I benifitted from binge watching GOT. I hadn't seen a single episode until two months ago. 

Being able to consume all of the first seven seasons in a short time, I didn't have that time to nitpick the story over 8 years. I do agree that the last season wasn't as good, but it was still way better than most of what's on tv.  I'm glad I watched it all. It was great entertainment

I figure Jon initially turned himself in to Davos, and there was some subsequent agreement about deferred judgement with standoffs between the northmen and the unsullied. As Jon killed the Khal, the Dothraki would either adopt him as Khal or fight amongst themselves to establish a new one. They probably went back to Essos after Dany's death.

Jon going to the wall wasn't a punishment, it was a trick they played on the unsullied to make it seem like he'd be punished. Seems like the happiest Jon's ever been was when he was with Ygritte north of the wall - he never wanted to rule, they did him a favor. I think the scope of the night's watch would be changed regardless, the whole area was pretty depopulated, they'd have enough to do just helping people not get killed from natural causes (as opposed to supernatural ones) while the area got resettled.

I imagine a decent amount of time passed between the Bran King agreement meeting and the subsequent scenes sufficient enough to settle Sam as a Master, Pod as a knight of the king's guard and Born as a lord.

If you think the Jon and Bran endings were fan service then you weren’t paying any attention at all to what the fans wanted.

The scene in the small council chamber was awesome imo.

It didn't start as a meeting.

It started with tyrion considering the chair of the hand at the small council table.  The chair where he had once sat. Then his father before tyrion killed him.  Then cersei even when she wasn't technically the hand.  Then qyburn. And Tyrion had been hand to dany before telling jon to commit treason.  

There was a lot to think about in that moment. 

Then he moved the chairs.  Reminiscent of the scene where they all vied for a seat at tywin's table. And all the scheming they did. 

But he's not moving all of the chairs to sit in them.  He's pushing them in, one by one.  Qyburn, killed by the mountain.  Pycelle, killed by qyburn. Littlefinger, the starks. Varys, dany. Mace tyrell, by cersei. Each chair pushed back to the table, empty. 

Then he considered the newly straightened table.  He was hand now, and he was making order for himself. 

Then the small council arrived. 

Yeah - we are not aligned.  That whole scene was dreadful.  Then they pull out the camera as if to say "they all lived happily ever after."

seems like a lot of nitpicking going on here.  yea 3 more episodes would have been great to hash out some of the sam, pod and yara stuff but we can just assume all that stuff happened after the battle and it totally could have.   I'm sure brienne knighted Pod the second the battle was over.  Same could be said for Sam, whatever needs to be done there.   I agree on the brienne take, but maybe they figured she had done her duty and she should take the higher rank and more important job to watch over the crippled king. Sansa is pretty capable these days.   Again another episode would have been great.....

Didn't Jon basically say what I am going to do at the wall? and tyrion was like we gotta have some place to send guys like you, which basically meant do whatever you want when you get there.    If he really really wanted to get out of it sansa (or bran for that matter) would hook him up shortly after and just take out the unsullied if they had too.  Dothraki were probably fine going back to their homeland and doing whatever they do all over again.  Totally fine with Davos getting that rank over Yara, Yara didn't seem on board anyways and maybe didn't want it.

It seems like a lot of people were watching the show to see “who would win”.  I’m surprised that more people aren’t happy that Tyrion was ultimately the winner. He basically became the most important man in Westeros and crushed the power of the king.

To me Bran being the king proved how unimportant the position is now.  Everyone throughout the series that went for power is dead.  The throne destroyed everyone, aside from Tyrion.  

The idea that OMG I WATCHED 8 SEASONS AND BRAN WON is silly.  Bran was the most unimpressive nobody that Tyrion could think of.

I’m sure almost everyone was hoping certain storylines would have had a different ending.  I for one really enjoyed the GOT series and will miss the show.  Not sure how much interests I will have in any of the prequels, right now I could do without them.  However, after some time and having GOT withdrawals, the prequels might be just what the doctor ordered. 

My favorite scene in the final was when Arya snuck up on Jon again.   She came out of nowhere,  awesome scene.

If you didn't like the actual meeting, fine, i get that. But if you didn't appreciate the  beginning of the scene, i'm pretty sure you spoiled the final episode for yourself.  It was vintage game of thrones.  No words, just 30 seconds of Tyrion in a room that's been a huge part of the show. 

Bran, pod, bronn, davos, sam and brienne... i get it if you didn't like that. When bronn says pretty soon we won't have no more coin, davos says any more, and bronn retorts you master of grammar now too... that line would have killed in a previous season.  But i get it.

I think the streaming outlets will find the middle ground.  Maybe release two episodes a week.

Seems insane that a show like Stranger Things will come and go in a long weekend when they could instead own the internet for 4-5 weeks.

With releasing an entire season at once you have to actively avoid talking or reading about the show.

Sam's not even a Maester, yet now he's the Grand Maester?  Ok.

Pod's not even a Knight, yet now he's on the Kingsguard?  Ok.

Brienne has spent her entire story arc trying to protect Catelyn's girls and now one is a queen, but instead of being the head of her Queensguard she stays to command the Kingsguard?  Ok.

Bronn, who's spent the entire series whoring and fighting is now Master of Coin.... but he's funny!  

Davos as Master of Ships instead of Yara, who literally did nothing but build ships and sail and fight this entire series.

Really, the only ending that made even a little sense was Arya's.  She's brave, independent, and full of adventure.  I can see her wanting to discover the world.  Everyone else.... stupid, but hey it was good theater so YAY!

War and regime change often result in rapid promotions.  I'm OK with it.  Plus, Sam did far more than any Maester to help the winning side.
