Game Thread - Philadelphia Eagles at Chicago Bears (1 Viewer)

Way to blow the ones we can / should win early in the season once again.

Its not like the NFC East is tough and every win will count or anything.

Is it just me or did it look on that last replay that Buckhalter scored? looked like the ball was touching the line. I dont know why they didnt show it more.
Should have been challenged but Reid cant fit his hand in his pocket to pull the flag out. That was the 3rd of 3 plays that needed to be challenged. Reid is going to get ripped tomorrow by the media and rightfully so.It sucks being a fan. We have the best QB this franchise has seen and we surround him with crap his career because our coach was too stubborn. I honestly don't see Reid being here if they fail to make the playoffs. They have to bring a new OC in too
Anyone with Tivo that can take another look? you need to watch it from the sideline view.. that overhead view doesnt mean anything.

i have tivo and started buckhalter tonight...and even I don't think it was a TD...now whether it was worth a challenge, that's a different issue...i could go either way as I understand the value of the TO at that point

No way he jepordize a TO with that close a challenge Two time outs and the 2 min warning and the team backed up on their own 1. How the hell did Reid know the D would miss 3 tackles and let the bears get a 1rst down?

It was the cloests of the 3 that should have been challenged. Closest as in terms of unsure. The other two ( Olsens TD and that 1st down spot that lead to a bears TD 3 plays later ) were obvious as the day is long. The thing is in that situation it is worth a review at the cost of a timeout because frankly, Reid is horrible at time management. He could have 3 time outs and still have the clock run out.

Andy Reid sucks at game situation management.

He blew it again.

Hey Andy, guess what - if you fail to score on third and goal with 4 minutes to go, you'll be going for it on 4th down. No need to talk it over and call a timeout - call a play instead.

That plus no Westbrook cost them that game. That'll haunt them all year.

Eagles really questionable play calling and personnel. Without Westbrook, they have no play makers outside of Jackson.

Brown, Avant, Basket. Seriously? They had like 7 total yards after the catch between them. Yes Jackson had some mental mistakes, he's a 21 year old rookie. He's also the only game breaker on that offense without Westbrook. That last drive, Jackson was barely on the field. Cbuck? Seriously? They should have put Jackson at split end and ran a mini reverse on 1st down. Pretty sure he could have beat any Bear to the pylon.

I understand wanting to punish a rookie who messed up, but not at the cost of winning the game. I'm sorry but you have to get that kid touches. Without Westbrook, that offense doesn't scare anyone. 3-4 average WRs, one rookie, and Cbuck. zzzzzzzzzz.

Reid just hates rookies. As we saw tonight, rookie mistakes can kill. But you also have to put your biggest weapons out there, and give him a chance to make a big play. McNabb has been making chicken soup with chicken #### for years. I just don't see how you can possibly put out Jason Avant at WR on the last drive of the game. Just play with 10 guys. And Reggie brown either runs out of bounds, or falls to the ground as soon as the ball hits his hands. Feel free to get a yard after catching the ball. I'd wager Brown has the lowest YAC of any WR in modern history.

Regardless, the Bears D looks to be back to old form. Pretty impressive. Until Brown gets hurt of course.

WTF is up with the Buck hate? Hunt was the fer in there on 2nd down an who the hell ran the ball down the field to get to the 1? sheesh.

:goodposting:Eagles team mantra: "Good enough to beat the I-AA teams and even some good ones...until it matters most."This is what happens when you have one (ONE) playmaker on offense...and he gets hurt. Did anybody really think that Tony Hunt, or Matt Schoebel, or fill-in-craptacular-player-name-here would step up tonight? You cant rely on McNabb to win a big game, you know...with the whole part about him being a choke artist. And Reid is a great play caller until its crunch time...or until he has a real crucial play to call.I take it all back when i said the Eagles shouldnt have extended Westy's deal. They actually should have given him $200 mil in exchange for being part of the the first human cloning program. he's the only gamer the eagles have and it makes me ill. Almost as ill as knowing that i have to deal with 13 more weeks of false hope, soul crushing losses, and head scratching plays/coaching.S-H-O-O-T-M-E. EAGLES!

Why the hell didn't they challenge on 4th down? I thought when they showed the side on reply it looked like he might have gotten in.

Sure looks like it was a TD from this pic.
I thought he was in too, bu only the overhead camera gave anything close to a clear view. What I REALLY didn't get was why the officvials spotted the ball out PAST the 1 yard line for the Bears first down play???!!!

The refs didn't call(or call) a ton of bone headed penalties, but they sure were giving the Bears the benefit of the doubt on virtually every ball spot. There were at least 4 critical spots that left me scratching my head in that game.

Where did you get this pic from?
The link was posted to it on the Eagles message board, no idea how someone got it.
Easy...that was the overhead camera view, and they showed it in game, although they never froze it like that.

The overhead view was with the camera well behind the ball, which means that the angle is deceiving. It was not straight over the goal line, it was at least two yards away. That fools you to thinking he got in.

Bears tried to give the game away after a lead into the 3rd quarter for the 3rd week in a row. This is not a good sign even though they're awfully close to 4-0 which is shocking to me.

Bashing Reid on play calling is interesting to me. The 4 straight runs on the goalline aside, I think he is one of the better play caller and play drawer upper in the league. Eagles run more 20+ yard routes than anyone else in the league I've seen. McNabb consistently hits no name receivers on deep outs, deep posts, etc. I'm imagining Reid is not only calling those plays, but also drawing them up in the lab. Having said all that, he could have snuck that ball in. A naked boot would have worked to perfection, as the Bears D is always pursuing overeagerly. A fake inside would have had the entire 11 bunched in, half of them diving over the top of the O line etc. He could have moonwalked into the endzone. Bears were trying to give that game away, eagles D was playing spectacular in the 2nd half, they just couldn't close the deal. I think 3 seperate times they started a drive in fieldgoal range! The missed fgs don't help either, but they weren't chipshots by any means...

Also, none of those replays would have been conclusive enough to overturn the call on the field. HE should have thrown the flag regardless, its not going to carry over into the next game, but I doubt they would have given them the TD...

I thought the game was going to be a snooze-fest, but it turned into a hell of a football game. The Eagles defensive strategy certainly looked vanilla, or was I watching a different team last week versus the Steelers? Maybe the Bears O-Line is better/smarter than I figured...who knows. Also, the 5-10 yard pass is always open against the Bears Cover-2, and I was kind of surprised McNabb wasn't throwing 90% of the time, but oh well, he wasn't too sharp last night.

Still not sold on Orton as the long-term answer in Chicago, but mediocre is certainly better than bad(Grossman). Buckhalter can be a solid #2/#3 while BW is healing, and Desean Jackson appears to be fairly polished for such a young WR. Forte took a beating, and came up big when it was needed most, very impressed with the kid. Not going to be a superstar, but I see him on a few pro-bowl teams down the road, same can be said for DeSean. Was Lloyd hurt for most of the game(I know he hurt the hamstring in practice)? Didn't really hear anything from the sideline reporters, and you could tell the Bears are relying on his ability to make plays/open the field for Olsen/Clark, Hester, and Booker.

Overall, that was an entertaining game between two teams that are pretty good, and it wouldn't surprise me to see these two play again come January.

Close, but certainly not conclusive...I wouldn't have over-turned the call, and I doubt the refs would have as well. The Eagles had 4 shots at the end-zone, they just got beat by a pretty damn good defense during those 4 plays.
