Game Thread W1 - 2009 - NY Jets V Houston (1 Viewer)

I don't have TJones, but i'm curious. Is NFL.com correct...he doesn't have a single carry? Just wondering what the reason(s) behind this are.
Jones has 5 carries for like a half yard... forget NFL.com.... use Fox Sports, it's better this year vs. the new and stupid NFL nonsense.Sanchez has impressed, and so has the Jets D. Neither team can run the ball much.
Talk about epic fail. This new NFL format sucks.... Thanks for the tip on Fox. Heading there now.

This could be a tale of two halfs... what adjustments will the teams make now? I expect to see Houston get more aggresive on D, blitzes... and try more short/screen stuff against the Jets blitzes.

The Texans need to get Slaton more involved. I have no selfish interest in writing this (aside from the fact that he was my first pick, and I am not pleased with his performance thus far!)

Thomas Jones runs one in from the goal line, a shame for Leon Washington owners b/c Leon was the goods on that drive and fell just short of scoring the play before.

Where is that Five Rings guy.... the one who called the Jets D a fraud in another thread?

I don't think the Jets are this good, or the Texans this bad. Ryan has kept his cards close, and Houston got surprised by some of the schemes. But, as a Jets fan, this has been fun so far.

Wow, what an athletic play by Harris for the sack.

EDIT: Not as athletic of a play as I thought, but it was still impressive.

I can't believe how good Sanchez looks here. I had him pegged as a "BUST" from draft day.
I don't understand why people had him as a bust? I don't know if he's Montana, but he has some really above average tools.
I was not at all happy with the Sanchez pick... looks like I might have been very, very wrong.
Sanchez seemed like a safe pick, so I wasn't too high or too down on the pick. That said, you can't judge a QB by his first game. Bruce Gradkowski looked like a superstar after his first game.

What was it that you didn't like? Was it him as a player or did you think we needed to address other needs?

Agreed - but looking at his footwork, his ability to keep a play alive, and his arm, I think the Jets have something here.

Methinks the Texans got surprised.

They underestimated the Jets D, and thought their all-pro D-line would harass and confuse a rookie QB.

Neither of those things happened.

People forget Sanchez has ALWAYS been highly thought of. He was a high 5 star athlete coming out of high school, considered the #1 QB in the nation. It's not like he just walked on at USC, he was heavily recruited. Kid was designated a superstar ever since he was in junior HS.

I generally am not crazy about California guys, especially QB's... and I wanted other needs addressed. I though Sanchez came out too early, and didn't think his arm was as good as it looks. Chase, of course one game doesn't allow for an evaluation, but I'll take this... I'll definitely take this.

The Texans have an all-pro defensive lineman; the Jets have one of the top OLs in the league. I think the Jets were projected to win the battle in the trenches on both sides of the ball.

Something no one has mentioned... Gholston is quietly putting together a decent game... that also surprises me.

Wow,,, Houston fails on 4th at the 50....

And Reliant Stadium has turned on the Texans.

Boo birds galore.

As I type this: the Texans go for it on 4th and FAIL.

It's getting ugly....

This is where the non development of Jacoby Jones is hurting us. The coaches just cant trust him on the field.

I know alot of people dont know about Kevin Walter but not having him is a big loss. He's a big target that consistently gets open.

With one more tackle he'll tie his career high of four. :football:

J/K...he's filled in nicely. Per usual Jenkins has clogged the middle and everything gets funneled to Harris. Scott brings a nice level of intensity. Just a really solid game for them.

Really kind of shocked at the Texans fans...they were booing in the first half as well. Just seems premature...guess the expectations for this offense were sky high.

I've been saying all preseason.... Jones is the most under valued FF player in the NFL. Said it here, said it at that other site that starts with a H....

See that block by Richardson? What a mismatch! DB got destroyed.TJ was a nice value pick this year.

I like Thomas Jones getting the 2 bird salute from that woman in the end zone. Stay classy Houston
