Game Thread W12 - Houston V NY Jets (1 Viewer)

I'd give Carr like 4-5 drops by his targets today. He's not playing bad IMO. That would make his passing like 24,25 for 30. What do you guys think?

Mis-communication there on the 3rd down handoff by the Texans. Lundy ran left, Carr turned to the right. Likely would of had the 1st.

Announcers were just talking about he is constantly having to checkdown. They've barely taken any shots downfield. That helps his completion percentage a lot. This dink and dunk passing just isn't going to cut it. The Jets started throwing over the middle and downfield this quarter and they are carving us up. Texans need to do the same.

yeah but Owen Daniels being lined up wide...at times, the staff is making plays for him to dink and dunk

I kept telling anyone who would listen how much faster Houston was this year in training camp. His thyroid meds were finally in balance, and he had slimmed down. He was as fast as Blaylock was in TC. I've been high on this kid since August. Despite those who question his ability to be an every down RB, I maintain he has that potential.

Jets need to put the rook in now, Clements.

this game is over, get his feet wet and keep Chad healthy

We have a lot of designed plays that way with the short passing game. Kubiak likes to play smash mouth with a complimentary short completion type passing game. Unfortunately, we don't have the smash mouth running game yet.

I believe they went for it because they knew about my sucker bet that involves me needing Houston to be within 24 of New York today.

I don't know, for me they all lack something. He's not shifty enough or doesn't have enough moves.Barlow similar.Washington can't do the short yardage stuff as well. There's no throroughbred there and IMO that's a necessity in the NFL.

but it's all a hypocrisy if Carr gets blamed, see my point?Everytime I see the Texans I expect to see Carr stink but instead he does fine and it's others that are the prob. Been that way for years. Drives me nuts

Other than last year, I've always been a Carr supporter. He still has work to do, but Kubiak has really turned him around this year.

another good game in ppr for wali lundy. he's getting 75% of DD's pts :D

Houston is no Barlow. He's faster to the hole, and runs with more power. He may not have the wiggle the elite RB's have, but I believe he is elusive enough to be a Curtis Martin type.... Martin rarely went for 20 yard runs either. He is fast enough to get outside for positive yardage though, but Washington as a third down back is a complimentary combo IMO. He'll never have the pro bowl potential of a guy like Maroney, but that isn't as important from a team perspective. I'll take an unexciting RB who is good for 4 to 5 yards on every carry, which is what Housonn has the potential to be.

One of Martin's strengths is his ability to see one hole close and another open and to cutback into the new lane. Houston doesn't really have a lot of vision as a runner and doesn't cutback all that well. I'm content with the Houston/Washington combo though... although if M Lynch/M Bush come my way in the draft, I'm taking them

I don't really dispute that they could get it done but they need a thoroughbred, it's a star position in the NFL. 10 years ago, maybe even 5, every team wasn't loaded as it is now at RB and 1000 yard backs were more rare. Nowadays every team seems to have one capable of a K.

I disagree regarding the "vision" observation. Both Houston and Washington seem to have a pretty good vision of the field and what lanes to pick, especially when compared to Barlow or Blaylock, who don't seem to have any field vision. Would I like to draft an RB in the first round? Yes..... but these two are a bit under rated IMO. I've seen all of them up close, and while I don't pretend to be any sort of pro scout, I also say it is much easier to evaluate talent when you are very close to the players on the practice field. From day 1, I wanted these two to be the RBBC. I believe the only reason they weren't was because they needed to improve on their pass blocking. Houston>Barlow, Washington>Balylock, and it isn't even close. Bri, I also agree neither is an NFL star, but a team doesn't have to have a pro bowl RB to win the Supe. In fact, sometimes I think having an elite RB can be something of a detriment in the playoffs, as teams will game plan to shut down guys like SA and LT and LJ. Take them away with good game planning and D schemes, and you've taken away most of the opponent's offense. How many rings does NE have with an RBBC sort of attack? Dominant O lines will make any RB look great. The Jets are a RT and RG away from being that sort of unit.
