Game Thread W12 - New England V Philly (1 Viewer)

*effort to extend thread to all time record*

what would the call be if the eagles threw the ball to the te over the middle, and then when he was about to be tackled he just threw the ball out of bounds (backwards). Is it just the Eagles ball with the clock stopped?

Great teams make big plays when they need them.
...against back-up QB's too...
Back up or not......what I saw is a Philly QB that played as well as any Philly QB all year.
I agree, he did great ... my point is...NE not so great as we thought.
I think they are....they still did what we saw in those other games. This wasn't so much NE but a Philly team that had a chip on their shoulder. I could tell in the 1st quarter the way they were hitting and running to the ball. This was a LIVE team that played NE. No offense to Buffalo fans but when Buffalo played them the other night, I didn't see Bills players flying around and making hits like that. You could tell on the coaches faces as well on the sidelines......they had a game plan and they meant business.I'll tell you what else....that was a physical game. If NE played a physical game like that more often, it would take their toll on them. Many of these games in 2nd halves to their credit have been snoozers. Not that you want injuries, but when you're going ALL OUT like you saw tonight, that's when things like that happen. I saw a couple Patriots limp off the field (like I said, not what any football fan wants to see) and to me it's not a coincidence that it was during a tough game like this.On an entirely different note, I know that many people are against the Patriots if you're not a fan of theirs but in general I think we need to lighten up on their fans on these boards. If I were a fan, I'd probably not come in this thread either because it's a lose lose. You come in and if they did lose......you get smeared because you're a fan and if you come in and they win, you still take a beating if it's not a blowout or even if they do blowout a team.I'll be honost, I don't want them to go 16-0. I'd be jealous to some degree because I want my favorite team to accomplish that but I do think some people during the heat of the moment in these games are going a little overboard.

I gotta admit. After watching tonights game I am a little worried about my seahawks going into philly next week. :lmao:
I'm hoping for emotional hangovers to carry over, good for the Hawks and let down for the Iggles. Remember what happened last time the Hawks went to Philly, 42-0. Besides, they'll probably have McNabb back in which will work in the Hawks' favor.

Blueprint this, Madden.NE played like crap tonight. Plain and simple.
What are you talking about? Madden was absolutely right. Patriots, especially Samuel, are almost impossible to throw on to the outside. They are vulnerable over the middle though. You still have to execute, but you can bet this will be the blueprint going forward. And give the Eagles some credit - they made the Pats look mortal by playing a great game themselves.

While I agree in part, most teams don't have a weapon like Brian Westbrook to fit into their blueprint/gameplan.

I am thinking that Belichick game plan of going four wide almost cost them the game. I think he is arrogant to assume that his team could one dimenional and still win. Almost like he was saying to Jim Johnson, "Look I can beat you with one arm behind my back."

Tom Brady had been sacked 10 times all season coming into the game but all of sudden he sacked 3 times in the first half. Brady got wacked around and blindside at least once. I know that the Eagles have good pass rushers but I find it hard to believe that the Eagles would have blitz as often with a RB in the game. I think Belichick recognized his mistake and put Maroney in in the second half.

Greatest level of props to Philly and fans. It was an unreal effort and a beautiful game to watch, and the classic "hate to see anyone lose" battle. Feeley would of course love to have back that 2nd Samuel pick in the endzone. Im not quite sure what the thinking there was. But he was going for the win, so being tough on the guy seems almost unnessecary. He's hammering himself harder than anyone else ever will for that one.

This is just a typical example of how youve got to be dialed in and competing at the highest level for the full 60. 55 minutes of great execution just wont get it done. And right now, its what NE is the best at. Theyre showing they can win every conceivable way. No running game. Completely overmatched emotionally. QB getting hammered. Main weapon all but eliminated. Defense picked apart. Pressure fully applied. Backs pressed squarely against the wall. And 99% of football fans rooting the other way. Trailing late in the 4th. Executing down the stretch. Stepping and making big plays in crunch time. To win under those kind of conditions shows nothing less than the heart of a champion. its a beautiful thing to witness.

Last week or the week before they didn't run much either

I know this is a popular angle but in the "rooting" department, they had full advantage here last night. With the game being a home game and all.J

yeah, it was like a library there when the eagles scored...

That team doesn't show up every week.I forget which game but they blew someone out and the week before or after they played terrible. I put that on Reid. They've got alot of playoff experience and are clearly a better team than people thought. Madden and Michaels a few times brought up how awesome Westbrook is but why isn't someone else often doing well? There's been too many weeks it's just been Westbrook. Also, if I were Reid, I'd have sat Brown early on. His funk was too long and to get out of it, he and McNabb just needed to chat, so why didn't Reid hook those two up earlier? And the D, they're (clearly) better than they were playing too. Reid's had some trouble pushing the right buttons this year.Reid's a very good coach. I would hope they're positive about this loss and not taking it as a negative. They're only 1 game behind the Lions for a wildcard spot. He, himself, can turn this around and keep them going right into the playoffs. The Pack(generally) and Cowboys are young and inexperienced in the playoffs. Anything can happen in that second season esp with Westbrook playing quietly like an MVP candidate. I'm so happy I got to see a full game this week. I can't even begin to tell you how boring some of the blowouts have been and how many times I try to remind myself to enjoy it recalling the pre Parcells and Carroll era and such. They had me concerned, that's for sure.Johnson(or Reid or both) had a terrific blitzing gameplan. We all knew they'd blitz alot but geesh that was to perfection. I was a bit miffed the announcers weren't pointing out how astoundingly perfect Kevin Faulk's blocks were, but many of those times yet another defender got thru. That's a credit to them. If this is on NFLN look for Faulk.I felt like Welker should have had 20-30 catches. Awesome job of the Eagles taking Moss out but they were leaving Welker unaccounted for or coverred by someone that just couldn't cut it. 13 catches is great and all, and it seems odd to say so but I know I saw it- Brady missed a bunch of easy tosses to Wes and he dropped some he usually grabs. I wonder if teams will give the Pats Welker in future games. I would never have guessed that was a sound theory. I thought they'd just invite the run.Awesome gameplan by Reid last night. Sure it came up a smidge short but he deserves a bunch of credit.

Great moral victory Eagles! Good game plan and great execution for the most part.

I was impressed with the Philly o-line more than anything. Philly definitely had a chip on their shoulder. Everyone is gunning for New England.

that would be the week after they blew the lions out I think.

The difference between winning and losing tonight for the Eagles was that Feeley (with the exception of the Samuel INT for a TD) was taking what the defense was giving him all night. Give me the middle...thanks I'll take it. And then one play Feeley decides to try and force a play towards the deep to the sidelines and got burned. Whereas Brady kept taking Welker and Gaffney and didn't force it to Moss. Apart from those two Samuel's picks, I though AJ Feeley played about as good a game as I've seen a QB play for this Eagles team. But IMO, to say there's a QB controversy is a bit much. This entire Eagles team all week has been hearing how great the Patriots are, and how they will have to play a perfect game just to cover the spread, and Moss this and Brady that. But the Eagles have a good team, I fully expect them to use this game as a stepping stone and not a stumbling block.

In the press conference after the game, Feeley said his 2nd INT that killed the 2nd to last drive was an attempt to throw the ball away out of the back of the endzone, just didn't have enough on it.

Hi SN,I think maybe Feeley didn't get the memo he was facing the Greatest Team In The History Of Organized Sports... :whoosh:Seriously though, I thought he looked great. Lots of really nice throws to some scrub WRs that seemed to have their way at times. Wasn't expecting that.J

Great game by the Eagles. I wish the Eagles well the rest of the year but a run at the playoffs will be difficult. Their schedule coming down the end of the year is pretty brutal (not in order);

Seattle

Giants

Dallas

New Orleans

Buffalo

No gimme's there. I live in an Eagles neighborhood with lots of great fans here so nothing but props to the Eagles for a great game.

yeah, this has really got to be a pretty disappointing season for the eagles fans.

I think we all had them pegged for the playoffs this year.

and just think --- they got beat by green bay and the pats by only field goals.

I think if they can take it to the pats like that they shouldn't be too worried about those other teams, and they're about as alive as anybody else for a wildcard, so we'll see....

look like they can help themselves in 3 of those games.

if I was a fan of any other team, the eagles are the kind of team I'd rather not run up against in the playoffs.
