Game Thread W17 - Seattle V Atlanta (1 Viewer)

All I can say after watching the Giant's "moral victory" of playing well for 3 quarters against a good team to get momentum, which included a heartbreaking collapse/pounding late in the game and the loss of several players including the starting center, all I can say is...Enjoy a padless 2nd quarter Matt and Bobby! Enjoy a game in civvies Walter and Deion. Wallace to Obomanu all day long!!!

Sweeney - what do you expect out of Hackett today?

I really have no idea. He'll start, but don't know how much he'll play and if he does who will be throwing the ball to him and what the game plan will be. Jones is out (not hurt) so I don't see Hass staying in there very long.

1st Seattle drive:

82 yards

6 first downs

3 of 4 passing for Hasselbeck

Receptions to Engram, Burleson, and Pollard

Morris and Alexander splitting carries, both had long runs cutting back

Finished with Alexander TD

In a weekend of records here's one for the Seahawks:

Floyd Womack has just completed an entire quarter of football without being injured

Another interesting note...

Hackett is playing the flanker spot with Branch being out. Burleson is over at split end while Engram remains in the slot. Will be curious to see who starts at split end next week. My guess is Hackett, but Burleson hasn't been quite as bad this season. Actually, his reception percentage is pretty bad, he ran the wrong route too many times to count this season, and he pretty much still is a burden on a potentially explosive offense. However, he is leading the team in scores. What could have expected if Hackett had stayed healthy? I'm torn here. Burleson, good, bad, or ugly? Tough guy to evaluate for me.

Not really that tough. If Branch were in, Hackett and Branch would be the starters. There's a reason every time Hackett comes back he's immediately putin as starter. And technically, Hackett and Engram were the starters today, in 3 WR sets Engram moves to the slot so he's still buried behind HAckett.

Maybe next time, Seattle can just forfeit instead of making the flight to Georgia. Or, maybe they can just play their offensive players only. It looks like they did that anyway.

Hard to get up for a meaningless game while your best lineman on both sides aren't even dressed. Atlanta had way more reason to get up for this game, Seattle didn't and they played that way. I'm just glad no one got hurt and actually feel OK for the Falcons to get a win in their horrid season. They played flat week 17 in their SB year with only an SA record to show for their efforts. Not worried about this carrying over to a home game.

Worst draft pick for us... as a Falcons fan you want to see your team win but it might've hurt the team overall.

Maybe, maybe not. Vick leaves the team with some cap problems so a few spots down the ladder is a few million in savings for the player. I think it's a good thing for the team to end on a win after all that happened. One playr isn't going to change the team's fortune.

The Falcons will have cap room to maneuver, they will most likely cut some players (like Warrick Dunn). Also, the Falcons could get the Vick money back (first ruling was in Favor of Falcons). One player isn't going to change the teams fortune, but having a player you really want in each round but is now gone b/c you're picking further back could hurt.

Maybe they can just mail it in to Atlanta next time than show up. It might be cheaper. As to worrying about players not getting hurt, why fly them in to stand around in street clothes? Someone could run into them along the sideline. Maybe they can just stay back in Washington state. I guess Holmgren's incentive to win this one was diminished too, since he's not getting the SF job.

Whether or not they get to keep the 20 mil, he still will count a decent chunk, not a lot but some IIRC. Any little bit helps. And from what I saw of the list they only moved down 1 spot, and that's if they didn't "win" the tie breaker. I'm not sure. But falling only 1 spot doesn't seem like too much to bear in return for a positive win at the end of a tough season. It will do the fans a lot of good, give the returning vets something to hang their hat on for the offseason and gives a positive start to what will have to be one of the biggest offseason rebuilding projects in NFL history. But I'll tell you what, if they cut Dunn for whatever business reasons they may have then I wish them another season like this one. For a team that's been burned by a few business decisions (Petrino, Parcells) to come out and cut a genuine good guy vet like Dunn is bad mojo IMO. If they agree to part ways that's one thing but cutting him seems a bad way to treat Dunn.
