Any chance that Tolbert's getting big playing time this week because of lingering issues with Mathews' ankle? How eager should Tolbert owners be about selling high?

Tolbert deserves the #1 spot, IMO. I'd keep him & have the starter for the Chargers.

I wouldn't discount the possibility. High ankle sprains generally don't disappear over the course of a week. However, he has looked good with the few opportunities he has had. He also has a cast-like thing on his left arm covering his elbow.

Any significant difference in pass protection? Who's in on the majority of the passing downs? Assuming SD has had any passing downs today...

I'm not sure that Mathews has been in the game at all in the second half. This may actually be good news for Mathews owners.

The Chargers have been mostly double-teaming Dockett and have been pretty effective doing so. Passing downs and rushing downs, Tolbert and Hester have lined up more than anyone.

Really? That's good news? I don't think it's good or bad. In fact I'd argue that there hasn't been any good news on this guy since the season started.

It might indicate that they are protecting his injury.

It's good news because it indicates that he might still be in a position to compete for the starting spot once he gets healthy.

So Mathews gets zero touches over the past 1.5 quarters and now they hand it to him? Very odd. Glad to see the youngster get his first TD, though. Tolbert is still better.

Appears to me the only news out of San Diego is a full blown RBBC and with Matthews being banged up he's going to get table scraps.

Norv Turner doesn't do RBBC. This looks like Tolbert's job to lose.

AZ O-line is going to get Hall killed. 8 SD sacks today.

I agree with Troy that Hall should start next week. Team is going nowhere with DA.

Nice run by Matthews to the outside for a TD.
Yeah, it didn't look he had an ache or pain in his entire body.
Yeah, and I'm even more concerned now... I mean, IF Mathews gets touches in a blow-out, doesn't that indicate health wasn't really the reason for Tolbert being the main guy to start? [i am NOT trolling...just want opinions]
His limited use in the 2nd half, which has all been a laugher, still could indicate a nagging issue. They ran Matthews outside near the endzone where there was a reasonable chance he wouldn't receive any significant contact.

Yeah, right. Never too late to start. Every year there are less and less bell cows out there.

Norv Turner is known for giving one RB 350 carries. He did in in DC, and he's done it in San diego. (In Oakland he tried to do it, but didn't have the personnel).

I wouldn't go that far. Turner never has because Turner has never had three RBs who are so close in skill level. Each one can be productive in different ways, so I would expect Norv to utilize each of them according to their strengths. If that means Tolbert carries the load one week, so be it. Next week we may (or may not) see something different.AJ has been in a position to draft for depth the last few years. A lot of these guys can fill in at a lot of these positions. Look at the play of the LBs today with two of their starters down. McNeil and VJax don't show up? Oh well, they are easily replaced.

Never mind, Matthews actually forced contact on that last play.

A laugher? Please explain.

Don't really care what he's known for. I see what I see this year and it ain't nothing close to bell cow.

Tolbert may be getting the carries now, but there is absolutely no question who the best RB in San Diego is. If the Mathews owner in your league is panicking like some of the folks in this thread, he's a fantastic buy-low candidate.

Calling Mr. Tremblay, Mr. Tremblay to the white courtesy phone:

What are your thoughts on this RB bullcrap?

Went to the game today. As a Charger fan and also having Wells and Fitz on my fantasy team, this was a dream come true and I was also sitting pretty close to the Cardinal bench.

I have no idea why Wells didn't get a carry until the second quarter. He was ready to go and stood by the coordinator the whole time.

Once he got into the game, he had two good carries right away. Then, he must have missed an assignment when the Cards either fumbled or threw an Int, I cannot remmeber which one.

When he came off the field, he was talking to the coordinator. The next thing you know, he was upset and pointing his finger at the coordinator. The coach took a few steps away, turned around and starting yelling and pointing back at wells. Wells went to the bench, took off his helment and didn't go back into the game until after halftime.

Even at the start of the third quarter, wells was still on the bench and wasn't even standing on the sideline waiting to go in on the next package change. I think it must have been a couple of series before he got up and got back into the game for a few plays.

Bottom line:

He didn't start and obviously wasn't happy

He argued with the coach and got benched - once again not happy

Not sure what will happen this week or what will be said.
