Game Thread W4 - NY Giants V Arizona (1 Viewer)

Can those that don't have this on TV explain the issue?
Cruz stumbles to the ground and lets the ball go without getting touched. Cards jump on the ball. Refs claim that Cruz gave himself up so was done and he couldn't be challenged. Next play is a pass to Nicks for the TD.

Cruz caught a pass, was untouched, then went down (looked like he tripped) and he got up while dropping the ball (assuming the play was dead). Arizona challenged it, but ref ruled that Cruz 'gave himself up' on the play so it wasn't eligible to be challenged. Looked like he clearly tripped though.

Eli proves why he is in the discussion for being one of the TOP QBs. It might not be pretty, hence his highly debated FF status, but at the end of the day, he stays calm, makes the most out of his opportunities (even the ones the refs give him) and will find a way to win.

Nicks had a great day.

EDIT: The Cruz play is so weird. I guess you can argue that he was giving himself up, but even as a Giants fan I have to think Cards got a little screwed, still have a chance to win though, let's see what Kolb can do given a chance to win.

An ELI debate doesn't belong in this thread, keep it on topic.

BIG defensive stop! Giants win!

You need a new TV, bud. He was 100% not tripped. He should have been tackled earlier but this is the Cardinals.

No way you can argue that. You can, however, see how it could possibly be mistaken by the refs. Not having the sound on this game, I dunno if there was a whistle. If there was no whistle, like the fumble recovery rules, this should be something that can be fixed on the field.

I think he gave himself up. He looked to his right and saw the guy coming and just went to the ground.
I'm not sure that constitutes giving yourself up. Lots of guys do that to minimize the risk of losing the ball. Victor Cruz is just a knucklehead.

Terrible sack taken by Kolb. Paid the guy a lot of money and to me looks no better than a bridge to a franchise QB. (A la Kyle Orton -- who would have come a lot cheaper)

His numbers look even better than he's really been. (Fitz's bailed him out countless times already)

I guess another option would be to not throw it to your best player at all and lose the game. Good call Whisenhunt.

I must say the non-fumble by Cruz near the end of the game was one of the worst calls I've ever seen. He was not "giving himself up". Cruz stumbled and let go of the ball thinking he'd been touched. It's really unbelievable how bad the call was and it decided the game. I have no interest in either team, was just watching it as it was the only close game left to watch.

Lots of guys do what? Lie on the ball in the middle of a play? When? That is the rule.Cruz was about to get sandwiched with two defenders gearing down on him. His reaction was to go to the ground and lie on the ball. It's a tough game. I don't necessarily agree that this should be allowed, but do his ribs hurt from shots he took earlier? Has becoming a starter and/or involved been a rude awakening to his body? We won't know the full details as to why, but I'm going to assume he's pretty beat up and the move was for personal safety.

Weanie Bells ran with intent today; maybe even a bit of anger. Nice to see. Cardinals football in general, not so nice to see.

For those who didn't watch, from what I caught after watching the second half:

- Beanie Wells was able to run all over the Giants defense. Given the fact the Giants were one of the topped ranked teams against the run entering this game, and even with the replacement of run stuffer Tuck with a poorer run defender in OSI, you have to give credit where credit is due. Cards are developing a nice running game.

- Kolb created a lot of problems for himself, moving into pressure, not stepping up in the pocket, locking onto his targets. Ended up costing him today.

- Fitzgerald, Nicks showed they are WR1s

- Manningham is NOT looking like the WR2 or even WR3 we thought he could be. Nicks is the only surefire, every week starter on this team.

- I'm not sure what more you could want from Eli if he were your starting QB of your favorite team. In fantasy, he basically is what you drafted him as. Never count him out on the field, or in fantasy.

That is why I laughed and high-fived my Seahawks friends when a) we didn't do it and b) AZ did.

Unless I was seeing things, there were times when Cruz was in with Nicks on 2 WR sets. Targeted 9 times today. Living up to his potential. Jump on him if you haven't already.

NFL is rigged. What a horrible call. Yay for another 5-7 win season, after 3 close losses this team will tuck it's tail. F@##$@ the refs

This.Even with Cruz doing his best Mario impersonation at the end, he's the guy to own dynasty-wise.

I feel for Cardinals fans, I really do, but you will get a call like that going your way sooner rather than later.
It's far past sooner. The better team lost, and they lost because the refs made a horrific call. Yeah yeah yeah "they could have still stopped them after" but you know what, they shouldn't have had to.

Where's the cry button on here??? I always love it when fans of losing teams blame the refs. There was still a lot of time left and Arizona could have stopped them, but they DIDN'T. End of story...
