Game Thread W4 - Washington V Philadelphia (1 Viewer)

Geez, Avant had that in his hands for the win.

Other than that last pass, Kolb looked terrible on that final drive. The Eagles are screwed as long as Vick is hurt.

Damn, imagine if Avant comes down with that. Kolb, despite being awful and his confidence shot, leading the Eagles to vicktory.

What is going on with this "safety" that the Eagles just got credit for?
Yea just noticed that. Should be a touchback not a safety. Wash picked it in the endzone and didn't come out. Expect that corrected shortly.Just got corrected.

That's pretty normal for them, isn't it? They come out in the second half in their prevent offense: runrunpanicked throw on pass playpuntStill not quite sure how they won this game; I guess by making fewer dumb plays and by tackling better than the Eagles. Still, an NFC East win is a nice thing to have. Very nice.

LMAO ####### mcnabb runs out of boundsthats the kind of bonehead #### he did constantly that i hated hmi for
Did he fail to get his team on the field in time to punch it in for a TD at the goalline with time running out in the half? That would be dumb.

not sure if it has been mentioned, but did Jim Haslett have an advantage since McNabb gave him the playbook? or was Kolb just not seeing the field (he missed a few open WR's)

So you're saying an 11 year vet shouldn't know the game situation there and realize he has to stay in bounds?
I'm saying there were a lot of dumb plays in that game, most of them by the Eagles. Like ignoring wide receivers down the field, not having the QB on the field in time at the end of the first half and costing them a touchdown that would have eventually won them the game. McNabb's blunder came after he picked up a first down, didn't it? The first down was more important than the running out of bounds. McNabb's (inferior) team won today, by the way.

I understand all that. But that was a boneheaded play by an 11 year vet. If McNabb stays in bounds, Kolb never gets the chance to throw the hail mary that Avant dropped.

It was a play that gained a needed first down by an 11-year vet. He ran out of bounds at the end of the play which was the wrong thing to do, but you're ignoring the rest of what he did on the play.

Nope. Just sayin' an 11 year vet needs to know the situation there and get down in bounds. Agreed?

the hail mary that Avant dropped.
You mean the hail mary that, had he not dropped it, would have been knocked out of his hands by a DB when he came down?
Don't know that, do we? But we do know it hit him in both hands, untouched by a defender, and he dropped it. Anything else is speculation.
Of course he dropped it. He was falling over backwards at the time. That was the only position in which he could get his hands on the ball. If you're looking for excuses why the Eagles lost, you should start looking at the real reasons. How about stopping the running game of the worst rushing team in the league? How about constantly leaving room for an 11-year veteran QB to scramble and pick up critical yardage? How about the simple ability to run a goalline play and punch it in for a TD? How about, you know, not trading a QB they would have been better off keeping?

I'm not looking for any excuses. Just agreeing with another poster that McNabb made a mistake you wouldn't expect from an 11 year vet. I further speculated that if he did stay in and let the clock continue to run, the Eagles would have never have had a chance to throw the hail mary; one that came perilously close (for the Redskins) of being the game winning touchdown. All I'm sayin'.Congrats to the Redskins. No excuses from this Eagles fan. Good luck with McNabb the rest of the way. Hopefully now the Eagles can resume their off-season plan of letting Kolb mature with the rest of their young team. Hopefully he looks better in week 13 then he did in week 4.

All this in response to him stating it was a clear drop? More like 2 very average teams going nowhere. Watching McNabb's play today didn't have many Eagle fans in awe but clearly it was the same case with Kolb. Avant had 2 hands on it and should have caught it, saying that it definitely would have been knocked out is pretty comical.Regardless, 2 unimpressive 2-2 teams.

Surely the latter. Aside from the last play, Kolb only threw 1 ball downfield (which was incomplete). I'm not even sure that any other pass traveled even 10 yards in the air. Sometimes he was pressured, but other times he was definitely not and he was looking for McCoy or anyone else close by immediately.

All receivers should catch all balls they have both hands on, so I agree with you. But a lot of times, a lot, they don't. Assuming he would have kept both hands on the ball all the way to the ground, without it being knocked out by a DB, and hanging on to it all the way through his fall onto his back and subsequent motion (which is necessary for it to be called a completed TD pass in the NFL) is assuming way too much. If Carlos Rogers had hung on to an INT the game would have been over also, but hey, he didn't.I did mention earlier that McNabb running out of bounds was dumb, by the way.

Same with Bradley. Who sucked yesterday.

People talk about this stuff too much. Andy Reid's playbook is very well known. Maybe if McNabb had been acquired in a mid-week trade he'd have provided some insight into this game plan, but beyond that there's just not much that McNabb could offer that the 'Skins coaching staff wouldn't already know. Even line calls and audible terminology were probably changed up. The defense played very well, didn't allow any deep throws, and tackled very well. It frankly felt a lot like a bend-but-don't-break Cover-2 scheme.

The most amusing part of this game was watching Andy Reid completely bungle the game management right at the end of the first half...and then Donovan McNabb get flustered and waste 2 timeouts within the first minute and a half of the 2nd half.

I'm not sure of the reason for the first timeout, but Cooley clearly botched where he lined up on the second one.

Portis - groin injury

Vick -- injured rib cartilage

McCoy -- broken rib

Asante Samuel -- concussion

Riley Cooper -- concussion

NFC East games are not pretty but they're tough.
