Game Thread W5 - Pittsburgh V San Diego (1 Viewer)

Is this the same Charger team that played in the 1st half?
Partially what I am seeing is Rivers isn't holding the ball as long. He's been doing more one step drop and throws and finding the open man with some fast passes. Neutralizing that rush some.

Cam and Marty seem to be adapting to what Pitt is giving them. I just hope they don't go back to Marty Ball. They would have cleaned the Ravens' clock had they let Rivers open up like this.

Now, next series, LT gets 40 yards rushing, 1/15 receiveing and a TD. MMMkay?
That'd be nice, but I'm still not convinced that Marty won't just try to go three and out on offense now that the Chargers have the lead. Or maybe he learned his lesson last week. We'll see . . .

Why does the Chargers D think they can bring guys down by pushing them or smacking their shoulderpads on them? Is this something Phillips is teaching them?

Well the first sack of Ben with the fumble was when they rushed 4. Not sure about the second one.

Why is Williams making a pro-bowler look like a girl scout.? They are giving him guard help and Williams is beating the double. Is Hartings hurt or something?

Roethlisberg ran right into Jamal Williams while Williams was engaged. What the hell?
The biggest difference in Ben's play this year vs. late last season is his how infrequently he runs laterally outside the pocket. He has shown an unwillingness to run in general this season, but even if he gets outside just to throw, that would be an improvement. He is simply holding onto the ball too long. Credit the Chargers defense, but Ben also should be looking to extend the play or do a better job of throwing the ball away.

Ben has 0 TDs and 8 INTs in his last 4 games. At what point is he in danger of getting benched?

They just interrupted my game again. This time to tell me that the thunderstorm has passed. I think an overzealous weatherman might be running the station tonight.

Quit blowing the ####### whistle prematurely
Talk to the head coaches that make up the NFL competition committee who ask the refs to over protect the QB's.
The should at least wait until he is actually down. It's not a lot to ask.
If they are actually blowing the whistle before the ball comes out, I have no problem with it. But if they are not blowing the whistle, but just deciding in hindsight that he was "in the grasp" before the ball came out, that is very stupid.

Well time for that stat.

The last time the Cowher Steelers trailed in the 4th quarter and won in the regular season against a team that won 10+ games was 1997. The only time since 1997 was against the Jets in the 2004 playoff game where Herm shut his offense down and tried a long FG in Heinz field, which is a terrible field to kick on.

Hoping that they let P.Riv keep throwing it, he was in a noyce grove the last drive...SD run game is just getting shut down here

QBs are getting bigger and bigger. "In the grasp" doesn't mean much when some QBs can just out-muscle the tackler. The NFL needs to be welcomed into the post 70s era.

Hello, I'm the guy that just acquired Tomlinson in a trade this past week.
Welcome to the over-hype that is Tomlinson. He'll lead you to expect big #s and let you down when you need him most.
Okay, now you are just talking stupid.
It is schtick. He's been posting the same thing for two years.
oh so he's being a homo on purpose... i suppose that makes it better.

They should do what there employers ask them to do, and thats blow the whistle early and often when the QB is in the play. Don't get me wrong, I understand what your point is. My point is don't blame the Ref when it's the NFL that wants them to blow the whistle that early.Personaly, I think it's a joke.
