Game Thread W7 - Minnesota V Pittsburgh (1 Viewer)

steelers won this game and at this point are a slightly better team. The NFL is a home league and Minny shouldnt feel too bad about this one. They basically could have won the game and lost on an unlucky play at the end of the game.

Favre threw a bad pass and taylor had a worse catch that sent the ball up into the air and Pitt returned it.

Really good teams make plays at the right times. Pitt is a really good team and are defending champs.

Good game today. Minnesota is for real.

Ugh, this is so annoying, and not only because I own Rice. Minny just got screwed royally. So ####### lame.
:) The refs never win or lose a game for any team. There were plenty of chances for Minnesota earlier in the game so they wouldn't be in this position.Keep blaming the refs though. All you clowns blaming the refs are making me

Just got home from the game. It was a great game. Very surprised that the Vikes Pass D held up so well, so that was a very welcome surprise. The home crowd was very very loud the whole time, and they really were the 12th man helping to cause some false start penalties, so props to the home crowd for doing their job.

Vikes had some nice, prolonged drives in the 4th quarter but you can't turn the ball over in the red zone, and you certainly can't let a team take it to the house twice and still plan on leaving their stadium a winner.

I don't feel bad for the loss because I saw a lot of good out of this Vikings team, and it's just one game. I didn't expect them to run the table this year, and I think they can correct the issues they had. Steelers are a tough team and fought a good game. The runbacks after the turnovers show they prepare very well to make plays after they've already made a play.

Really????? ####### Pitt refs again!!!!!!!!!
 :pickle: :hey: I don't think you are being serious but, in any case, I am becoming less and less a fan of Minnesota fans. Through all the Favre garbage and the crying today about coaching and referees you guys are about as bad as Brownie fans.
They do this year in and year out. As a Packer fan I'm used to it, and it's amusing to see them cry all over themselves with no dignity today. :lmao:

Last year, the Vikings beat the Detriot Lions after the refs made a couple of bad calls. As a Viking fan, I always thought that the Vikings never deserved to win that game. Don't get me wrong I am glad the Vikings won but the game result was tainted IMO.

Refs decision decide close games all the time. I will continue to complain about bad officiating. But I have moved on and looking forward to next week match up vs Green Bay.

Favre throwing when he didn't have to cost this team the game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Nice play calling Childress, you moron!
Chester Taylor not catching a pass that hit his hands had something to do with it. I am sure the Favre haters will try and use that since they have been quiet for 7 weeks.
New here?Over the last 10 years or so every single pick that Favre has thrown has been his fault. Some of the same guys in here defending him today were the same bashers back when he was a Packer.Hypocrisy, the Viking way of life these days.

Good game Steelers. But there should be a asterisk by your record.
:lmao: No one knows how this game turns out if the Vikes score a TD instead of the Steelers on that "tripping" call.

There was 7 minutes left. Way too much time to think the game was "in the bag" if not for the refs.

Enjoy a great game by both teams and get ready for next week..

Favre vs. Packers.. Going to be a FUN Fun Week!!!!! :lmao:
I'm nervous already. :lmao:

Did I claim the refs cost Minny the game? It was an awful call plain and simple. As a fan of the NFL, it annoys me when #### like that happens. And, you need to get a life.

We may be clowns, but you sir, are pathetic.

Here come the classy Steeler fans.
Was this even warranted?Do people really hate the steelers that much? I just left the bar with a family of packer and bear fans cheering against the steelers in favor of an undefeated vikings team in their own division. I love it!!!!
ummmm I think you blacked out and dreamed that. No people dont hate the steelers that much, what you're saying makes no sense.
Youre right i was imagining things. I could have swore the mom and son were wearing bears jerseys and the dad was wearing a packers nitschke (sp) jersey. Youre right it makes no sense but that is how jealousy rears its ugly head. Its pathetic.

They talked about working on this during practice before the SB last year. It was on the Steelers SB DVD. Tomlin noticed that they weren't really doing anything with the ball after they picked off passes in practice. He made a video of all the picks the Steelers made in practice and showed the D what they weren't doing after the turnover. We all saw what happened in SB 43 and we saw what happened today. This is a unit that quickly thinks offense after it forces a turnover. It's a thing of beauty, the way every player on the D is looking to make a block on the runbacks. Sometimes several blocks.

The Refs absolutely killed the Steelers just 2 games earlier against the Colts in the divisional round... but the Steelers found a way to win anyhow. Seattle, not so much.
IIRC, it was the rules that almost killed the Steelers, not the refs. They just had to enforce poorly written rules. Assuming of course you were talking about the Polamalu interception.

Wrong. They were very, very, very bad but Seattle still had the chance to win the game. Refs were reason 1b. Pitt would've probably scored on 4th and 1 with Bettis, DJax had two TDs he could've caught but tried to be flashy, bad clock management, dropsies from Stevens, bad angles by Boulware etc... Far, far more issues thant he Pitt/Indy game that Joey Porter whined and cried about. However, a good case can be made that if the refs didn;t blow just one of the calls they refused to admit were bad then the Seahawks would've easily won.

And it would've been cool if they called any of the headlocks the Pit RT put on Fisher the whole game instead of calling fingertip holds on the Hawks.

This remains, much to the annoyance of every Steeler fan, one of the biggest myths in the history of sports. There was not a single bad call that went against the Seahawks in that SB. Not a single one. There were some CLOSE calls, that could go either way. But there were no clearly bad calls in that game. It's a travesty that people still believe this nonsense.

I know this is schtick, but come on, the NFL actually admitted one of them was bad. Illegally tackling the guy with the ball on #8 Hasselbeck.I guess Steeler fans will have to blame the refs for a mjority of non partisan fans thinking the win is tainted.

Actually, I forgot about that play. But that play, which occurred after the interception, had no bearing on the outcome of the game. I was speaking of the three plays that Seattle fans always gripe about, the ones that did have an effect on the outcome:1. The offensive intereference call that "prevented" the Seahawks from scoring the first touchdown of the game. It was close, but it was offensive interference.2. The touchdown run by Ben Roethlisberger. It was very close, but he does edge over the goal line; it was a touchdown.3. The offensive holding call on Seattle right before Hassleback's interception. It was close, but it was holding and should have been called. These are the three plays that some Seattle fans have whined about ever since, and they are just wrong. Refs did not decide that SB.

No need for Steelers fans to blame the refs. We'll leave that for the whiny tools...........

1-borderline, the DB already was juked the other way, DJ didn't cause him to miss with his arm out. They also conveniently didn't throw a flag on Ward for the two times he pushed off, once in the facemask even, later in the game.2. Not a chance in hell. Ben was not in, he admitted as much on Letterman later that week. No replay showed him in, they all confirmed the call the ref originally made when he ran in with the 4th down sign and then changed to TD. Still think Bettis would've punchied it in on 4th so I don't count it other than as proof of the ref's incompetence.

3. It was a fingertip hold on a player that was offsides. The refs admitted he missed the hold and threw the flag based on the reaction of the Pit player. So much so that for the next year it was emphasized to refs at the beginning of the season that they had to see the foul, not just the reaction, to throw the flag.

The play after the INT completely changed the game as a direct result of the BS penalty. Seattle's D was holding them down very well and did so on 1st and 2nd down of that drive. No way Pit does the trick play from the 25 yard line which is where they would've been without the extra BS 15 yards. From the 40, with Seattle rattled by the ref calls and missed opportunities and the game is ripe for trickery.

I've never really believed all the people that get down on you for being "wrong" all the time, but you could'nt be more wrong on this.

What is really sad is, I think you actually believe that, as do many Steelers fans. Had the reverse happened, you would all still be crying into your terrible towels, just like you all did when that bad call was made in the Indy playoff game. Had Pittsburgh lost the game as a result of that, you would all still be complaining about it and don't even try to deny it.

Really? This is the exact opposite of my experience. At the Bears-Steelers game, the Steelers fans showed up in force, and it was probably the most conciliatory mix of Bears fans and opposing team fans I've ever seen at Soldier Field. Nothing but mutual respect - and that's saying something considering how incredibly rude we usually are to opposing fans, especially when they show up in such large numbers. Now, when the Eagles fans come through in a few weeks, all bets are off. Those people are savages who deserve nothing but our scorn. And they're gay.

I've heard many a Steelers fan agree that there were outragous calls during the SB. That being said any fan of any team would defend the championship whether others view it as right or wrong... well, honestly, I could give a ####.Actually I care enough to give everyone that #####es about that game a theme song:

No, it is a tough to be an eight-time championship winning Browns fan right now. Those poor Browns fans have to watch their horrible team right now, but I am sure some of them rest easy, knowing that their team has won more total championships than the Steelers, even if all or most of them were before many of them were born.

Rivalries are no fun when they are one sided. Ravens games have been more enjoyable to watch for sometime now... and as long as Lerner keeps hiring guys like Mangina who put their faith in Derek Anderson it will remain that way.

Not me. You can believe me or not. I've seen many bad calls in my time. Besides being a Steeler fan (my first love) I'm a UCLA fan, a Laker fan, a Dodger fan. Like every other sports fan, I've suffered through agonizing losses and seen plenty of games where I thought a referee made a terrible call. With ONE exception, I have never in my entire life blamed refs for any sports outcome. Refs can make poor decisions; you have to work your way through it.The one exception was the 1972 Olympic Gold Medal Game between the United States and the Soviet Union. I was 7 years old and it was one of the first sports events I ever followed, and I remember it clearly. That was the only time I felt the refs caused the result to happen.

Better than what? Letting a select group of people know that saying things like "you didn't win the game, the refs handed it to you" when it isn't the case makes you look like a whiner? There were a number of Vikes fans in thread here who disagreed with the call, but admitted that the reason they lost was because of the two huge turnovers for TDs. Realists who were gracious in defeat and carried themselves with dignity (as it were, on a message board.) There were a few others who were being (deliberately?) obtuse and antagonistic and I was letting them know. I don't see why this is so awful.

I am really surprised this has devolved into a SBXL mud-slinging festival of the mentally challenged.

We (Steeler fans) get it...some of you have an axe to grind over that SB. It's ok, I'm still burned up about the 1994 AFC Championship game.

Just as we know there isn't anything we can say or show to change your minds about it (ie. pictures and video showing these things happening)...the same goes for us.

Can we agree to disagree?

Or are you all just hell bent on pissing in our cheerios and rehashing what happened in 2005 every time there's a questionable call in a game?

Either way is fine with me, just trying to be a voice of reason here.

One undefeated team exposed. Now bring on the Donkeys and Captain Neckbeard.
Really?? How did you come to that conclusion :goodposting: The Vikings Offense moved the ball pretty well.. The Vikings defense stood their ground against the Steelers Offense.

Both teams played a VERY good game.

IMO, both teams proved they are among the top 10 in the league.. But I'll wait for you to explain how they were "exposed"

I always thought the Vikes were being considered serious contenders by the national media even before this game. Apparently they weren't but they certainly are now.

I was happy with the way the Vikings played. They played toe to toe with a great team in (arguably) the toughest place to play in then NFL. I remember when a road game outdoors for the Vikings was a no-brainer loss. I hate losing but I like the way they kept fighting! This is a good team.
