Garcon and Wayne - Weeks 5-10 (1 Viewer)

Worth noting as you read stories about Garcon's no-good, terrible, historically-awful 2010 season...

Reggie Wayne 53-30 (56.6%) 302-1

Pierre Garcon 47-24 (51.1%) 290-1

That's targets/receptions/yards/TDs after Garcon came back in Week 5.

IOW... the problems go well beyond Pierre. He's actually averaging more yards/target than Wayne over the last five games. And with the underneath receiving corps and running game decimated, the outside WRs have managed a grand total of TWO touchdowns on 100 targets.

Good stuff. I expect both of these guys to win league championships this year from the people bold enough to go get them right now (especially Garcon). Shocked that their numbers are so close when Garcon has been getting absolutely skewered here on the forums and all over the fantasy world, while Wayne gets a relatively free pass on his crap numbers still.

Have you seen Garcon play. The games I have watched he has not looked good. Drops easy catches. He made one good catch earlier in the year, it was actually pretty amazing but thats it. This guy carried my team to a title last year with Charles. He doesn't seem to be the same this year.

That just means they both have been underperforming. Garcon is not having a good year.
Don't disagree. But IMO the injuries have taken a toll on Indy's passing game and none of them (Peyton included) are having good years.
Not top 3 like you probably expected at the beginning of the year, but still having a good year. He's still ranks 3rd in passing Yd's and T-5th for passing TD's. Not to mention only 4 INT's and 64.2% completion rate on the year with a complete skeleton crew at WR/TE and no running game. He's having a good year.

Sorry - was mixing and matching FF and real NFL there. Manning's having a pretty pedestrian season performance wise that's being covered up FF wise by the fact that the Colts are on pace to throw almost 700 times this year.

I agree. But I think the problem is the OL. They just do not block that well. Run blocking is HORRIBLE. But even pass blocking is less than stellar.

Colts homer here. Probably seen 95% of their snaps this year.

Thing is, and people who aren't paying attention don't realize it, is that they just aren't very good. The O-Line is bad and the Defense is mediocre at best. And, I think Manning may be a little dinged. He just doesn't look right. (Either that or he's starting to get old, *shudder*) The timing just isn't there right now. This team is destined for a first round playoff loss. Normally when the Colts are running on all cylinders, it doesn't matter who is catching the balls. Manning made Brandon Stokely look like a star, and he's a good player, but he's not a star. He's not doing that this year. He's not turning his mediocre receivers into stars this year, they're just mediocre receivers. And Wayne turned 32 today so it's not out of the realm of possibility that he's entered the downside of his career.

There were a couple of good threads on Garcon preseason. Some people were arguing that he would have a very good year (including me) and others were arguing that he was going to be pretty average. What's interesting and instructive is that the second group is correct, but not for the reasons cited. A large majority of them agreed that Garcon was a talent but the main argument was that there was no way Garcon could perform at that level because there were too many mouths to feed in that offense. I argued that it was reasonable based on their past and age to assume that Clark and/or Wayne would slow down or get hurt and therefore Garcon would have the opportunity to step up. This opinion was roundly criticized. So it's humorous to see that Clark did get hurt and Wayne has dropped off some, yet Garcon has underperformed and been dinged up as well. So having him on most of my teams has been a net negative. I got half of my analysis correct, but it didn't really help me. Funny how this game works sometimes.

Not to hijak this thread since the OP was talking about Garcon and Wayne, but should point out that Manning has thrown 386 passes so far this year. Brees has thrown 374, Palmer 360, Orton 350, etc. We are talking less than 1 pass per game over Brees, and 2 or 3 passes per game more than some of these other guys. This is a passing league now, it's not just Peyton and the Colts.

One thing to note when criticizing Garcon, is that in the Philly game he (not Wayne) was covered by Asante Samuel almost the entire time. This was obviously the cause for his poor fantasy game that week. Taking that one away, he hasn't been as bad as people are making it out to be, and the targets are still there.

I'm still not sure I can start him right now, but something to think about...

... and is injured like the rest of the team. This Colts passing situation keeps looking better and better

Last three weeks:

Garcon 15 catches on 25 targets (60%) 171 yards

Wayne 16 catches on 31 targets (52%) 183 yards

Like I said before... it's not Garcon and Wayne - the Colts passing offense is a mess.

Just dumped Wayne and glad to do so. Something about the way the Colts offense has played wasn't looking right. Maybe it's not having a healthy Addaii...

I bet he ends up being the WR1 for a lot of teams. He appears to be heating up.

What you saw last night was the set up game. Last night's game wasn't the season. Next week IS the season. The Colts do this from time to time (usually before the Patriots or Steelers or Ravens games). The game prior to the BIG games, they will show you things that don't look a lot like the Colts at all. They will run a bit more than usual. They will use their "Big" packages more than usual. But in the BIG games, the first options are Wayne/Clark (now Tamme).

It looks like Garcon IS going to be helpful to teams, especially when the Colts play the Raiders, but I wouldn't think he will be a consistent WR1 down the stretch. Play him accordingly.

I think he can put up WR1 numbers but any team counting on him to be their WR1 didn't make the playoffs anyway.
