Redskins receiver Pierre Garcon won’t need surgery to repair a plantar plate in his right foot, barring a setback, according to a league source. Garcon did not know after the season whether or not he’d need surgery, but the second toe on his right foot is healing and more rest is the prescription, the source said.
If the foot had been that bad, Garcon likely would have needed surgery during the season or shortly after it ended. But the Redskins and Garcon wanted to see how his foot and toe progressed in the offseason to see if surgery would be needed. Coach Mike Shanahan had said Garcon likely would see specialists in the offseason to determine the course of action. Garcon hasn’t been running on it, so the foot has finally had an extended period of rest to let it heal. The source said Garcon should be “100 percent” by next year.
The Washington Redskins were a terror last season when Pierre Garcon was on the field as Robert Griffin III's No. 1 receiver.
The Redskins went 9-2 with Garcon, who finished with 44 catches for 633 yards and four touchdowns in 10 regular-season starts. Garcon was limited by a torn ligament in his right foot, an injury suffered in the season opener against the New Orleans Saints. He had surgery to repair a shoulder issue this offseason, but he did not surgically repair the foot.
ESPN.com's Dan Graziano wrote Saturday that foot surgery for Garcon was the one move the Redskins needed to make but didn't this offseason. Graziano believes the Redskins could look back on Garcon's rest-and-rehabilitation decision as the team's "biggest regret."
In fairness to Garcon, it wasn't a cut-and-dry option -- there was no guarantee the procedure completely would repair the ligament. Instead, Garcon opted to have special shoes made to help better protect the foot. He said last month on NFL Network's "NFL AM" he has to "learn a lot about my foot and how I run."
If the foot issue flares up again in 2013, the Redskins' offense becomes vulnerable. Josh Morgan, the team's No. 2 wide receiver, doesn't keep defensive coordinators up at night. Fred Davis is a playmaking tight end, but he's coming off surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon.
A healthy RGIII can cover up a lot of blemishes, but Garcon's health is a key plot point for training camp and beyond.

Pierre Garcon (shoulder) received full medical clearance to practice when training camp opens next week.
Garcon had surgery to repair a torn labrum shortly after the Redskins were bounced from the playoffs. He had a checkup with Dr. James Andrews earlier this week and received a clean bill of health. Garcon's toe is the only issue that's still a bit concerning, but he plans to wear special shoes with inserts to help alleviate the pain. He's our No. 19 fantasy receiver heading into camp.

The doctor's didn't stop him from playing last year with his foot issues, so getting full medical clearance sounds nice, but doesn't mean that much IMO (and I hope I am wrong as he is my best WR in one league).Rotoworld:

If he's healthy all year I agree. Very likely to do 80+ catches IMO.No stopping this guy with RG3 tossing him the ball. He's a mack truck in the open field. He's way underrated right now.
His toe is a major concern to me, but as a WR3/4 I like him. Just better have a competent backup ready to roll. He's like a McFadden or any other PPG-stud made of sketchy parts. And he and RGIII have a connex on the field no doubt. Ride him hot while he lasts but be ready for the worst. No stopping this guy with RG3 tossing him the ball. He's a mack truck in the open field. Of course he put up 33-450(?)-3 on a bum foot over the last six games of the season too.The doctor's didn't stop him from playing last year with his foot issues, so getting full medical clearance sounds nice, but doesn't mean that much IMO (and I hope I am wrong as he is my best WR in one league).Rotoworld:

And how much pain was he in and could he withstand that for 16 games and not just six? That is the question. Maybe he played the entire season that way, and if that is the case, then any worries about him are unwarranted.Of course he put up 33-450(?)-3 on a bum foot over the last six games of the season too.The doctor's didn't stop him from playing last year with his foot issues, so getting full medical clearance sounds nice, but doesn't mean that much IMO (and I hope I am wrong as he is my best WR in one league).Rotoworld:

Agree as well, well worth the risk at his current adp, he'll be a steal if healthy unless his sock rises significantly during pre-season.If he's healthy all year I agree. Very likely to do 80+ catches IMO.No stopping this guy with RG3 tossing him the ball. He's a mack truck in the open field. He's way underrated right now.
He was on pace to destroy that production when healthy, with RG3.This dude is annually overrated and never delivers the goods. His best season was 943/6 and that was an outlier. And that's with the most stellar qb play anyone could hope for.
It won't be an outlier if he is healthy and simpatico with RG3 - and that is what those who own him or are acquiring him are rolling the dice on.This dude is annually overrated and never delivers the goods. His best season was 943/6 and that was an outlier. And that's with the most stellar qb play anyone could hope for.
He was literally cleared by Dr. Andrews today or yesterday, for the shoulder. He's already injured. What more do you need to know? Drafting a china doll that's gonna have his feet binded all year is not what I want to spend a mid rounder on. I've seen and heard alls I need.
4rec for 104 yards and a TD before getting hurt the first half of game one. Weeks 12-16 18.4ppg in ppr with the foot problem. That's WR1 goods. He just works with RG3's style. Once the play breaks down you can't cover him for long. RG3 knows this. And the other vertical WR's compliment his game. This dude is annually overrated and never delivers the goods. His best season was 943/6 and that was an outlier. And that's with the most stellar qb play anyone could hope for.
I read that too. But we already know he's no ironman. The toe increases the chance of a compensation injury. I'd say he's even odds to miss at least 3 games. He was literally cleared by Dr. Andrews today or yesterday, for the shoulder. The toe is all pain management. He's already injured. What more do you need to know? Drafting a china doll that's gonna have his feet binded all year is not what I want to spend a mid rounder on. I've seen and heard alls I need.
And if dmc finished out his 2010 season he woulda had 2000 yards and 15 tds.4rec for 104 yards and a TD before getting hurt the first half of game one. Weeks 12-16 18.4ppg in ppr with the foot problem. That's WR1 goods. He just works with RG3's style. Once the play breaks down you can't cover him for long. RG3 knows this. You'd have to be pretty ignorant to compare the two. One is always injured. The other had one single foot injury that he played through very well after coming back. And if dmc finished out his 2010 season he woulda had 2000 yards and 15 tds.4rec for 104 yards and a TD before getting hurt the first half of game one. His ADP is WR24 right now. Given the injury risk, I don't think that's underrated. He's going ahead of guys like Antonio Brown and Steve Smith. I think both guys are locks for 1100 yards. What do you expect out of Garcon? Maybe an extra 100 yards? 200 yards? I'm not sure it's worth the risk. And those are the guys who are the opportunity cost of drafting Garcon at his current ADP. Where do you think his ADP should be?No stopping this guy with RG3 tossing him the ball. He's a mack truck in the open field. He's way underrated right now.

If not for the foot injury he would have been recognized as one of the best FF receivers in the game last season. If healthy I don't plan on leaving a draft without him.. I don't plan to anyway, because I'm more risk adverse than most. He's one of those guys that's too strong for db's and too fast for lb's. Pair him with RG3 buying time and he can't be covered. On a ppg basis I have him down as a low-end WR1. A (somewhat)healthy Garcon outperforms WR24. He's going to finish with the lions share of RG3 passing yards and TDs. I would consider buying as early as the 4th in terms of value. With the injury the market prices him almost a round and a half later. I usually can grab him in the 6th in my early mocks on ESPN. 5.5rec 83yds .5TDS was Garcon's numbers in the 6 games he started. Thats a faux 17 game season of 94/1411/8. I'd say that's worth the risk. His ADP is WR24 right now. Given the injury risk, I don't think that's underrated. He's going ahead of guys like Antonio Brown and Steve Smith. Overrated and disappointing to a DMC proportion is pretty far off for many reason. It's ignorant to compare two guys who came into the league together that only have 1 full season out of a possible 10 between them? You'd have to be pretty ignorant to compare the two. ETA Calling someone ignorant is, well ignor... you get what I mean.
I think the comp is pretty spot on. Both are PPG studs who can be had in middle rounds but have foot injuries that may or may not be totally healed, creating a distinct risk for their 2013 prospects. I like them both, but these types of players make you early and break you late. If you're going to buy, it better be as your RB2/WR3 and insurance is a must.ShaHBucks said:Overrated and disappointing to a DMC proportion is pretty far off for many reason.Steed said:It's ignorant to compare two guys who came into the league together that only have 1 full season out of a possible 10 between them? You'd have to be pretty ignorant to compare the two. The guy progressed every year & had 943/6 with a bunch of backup scrubs that aren't even in the league now. I wouldn't call those QB's play stellar. This dude is annually overrated and never delivers the goods. His best season was 943/6 and that was an outlier. The Washington Times confirms Pierre Garcon is showing "no signs" of last year's toe injury at Redskins camp.
Garcon is "run(ning) well," aggressively finishing routes over the middle, and making tough grabs in traffic, per beat writer Rich Campbell. Garcon can be a target monster in Washington's pass offense. He's a high-ceiling fantasy WR2.
