Garrett Wolfe(RB-NIU) (1 Viewer)

Had the pleasure of watching this kid run circles around OSU defenders today. Usually I'm skeptical of the smaller RB at the next level (Wolfe is 5'8 and around 190lbs) but this kid was punishing would be tacklers as well as using his unique cutting ability to get by them. As the only weapon on NIU's offense, from what I can tell, he accounted for 285 {26 carries for 172yards and 5 receptions for 115yards) of his teams 324 total yards. Showed some big play ability with a couple plays of 50+ yards, and few more 20+ yard gains. I came away thinking this guy might be the best RB college. Any NIU fans/MAC fans/OSU Fans want to share some thoughts on this guy? I

I watched the game and liked his speed. Those 2 screen passes he caught for major yardage in the 1st half was impressive.

I see him playing a Darren Sproles type of role in the NFL. He's not as powerful as Maurice Jones-Drew
Sproles is exactly who he reminds me of. I know it is odd to say but even at 5'7", I wish he would not run so upright. He obviously has been very sucessful, but I don't like his style as much as a Warrick Dunn or Maurice Drew.

DING!he's still a guy that will contribute on Sundays for sure, and that is no small feat.
So he's got small feet? What's the big deal? Seriously, as a Buckeye fan, I knew going in he was the guy that could have success against us and he was as advertised. For those that don't know he was awesome last year and put up some amazing numbers. As for the NFL, I have to agree with Cecil. He will be an NFL player but I doubt he can hold up as a starting RB. 3rd down guy for sure. It's not impossible to imagine just not likely happen.

small feet is a good thing, it means that the NFL team that drafts him doesn't need to worry about him dating cheerleaders.

He impressed me, and got stronger as the game went on.

If he maintains that same intensity in all his games this year, he'll put up some very nice numbers.

i don't care who you are when you run for 170 yars vs. the #1 team in the country, thats impressive.... his o-line has a couple of guys that will be playing on sundays too

"The Wolf" was the #1 RB on my College FF list this year, and it wasn't close to me. He looked great today vs Ohio St and stands to put up silly ### numbers vs the MAC this year.

The problem is he probably won't translate to the pro game very well.

NIU is simply a RB machine. Michael "The Burner" Turner in a Huskie grad and will probably being a stud somewhere once he hits free agency. I agree that Wolfe is on the small side, but as a third down back, he could be a game changer. Great o-line and schemes at NIU don't hurt either. Really surprised Coach Novak doesn't get more opportunities at a bigger program with the outstanding recruiting and coaching they do.

I think he's going to be a sensational 3rd down/change of pace guy. Very very tough to see amongst the trees and such quick feet and change of direction, it's almost impossible to hit him square.

I like him more than Calhoun/Drew/Washington myself, other guys from this year's class I view as 3rd down backs.

I've had the pleasure of seeing this guy in person like, 80 times and he's amazing. Too small to be an every down back in the NFL but he will be an outstanding 3rd down/change of pace guy for some lucky team out there. Hopefully the Bears.

He's way better than any of those guys, IMO.

better than Washington, I think better than Calhoun, but it's close, but I won't say that he's been than (Jones-)Drew - at least not for fantasy - Drew still has a chance to be a very solid fantasy back because of those tree trunk thighs and the elusiveness and "it" quality in the open field. But there's no denying Wolfe is going to contribute on Sundays and be a very solid pro - He should go on the first day next year - but people will overpay for him in rookie drafts, just like they did for Sproles.

Unfortunetly he may not get the credit he is due from NFL teams because of the system he plays in. Northern Illinois has a history (at least in recent years) of producing a lot of yards on the ground. Michael Turner looked like a stud coming out and slipped to the 5th round. I don't see Wolfe faring any better. Size matters.

...don't you think the way Turner has impressed the NFL with his play wouldl help Wolfe..?

I just meant he's a better collegiate back than any of those guys, not that he'll be a better FF player at the next level. I agree with every word you said from a FF standpoint.

It's Bloom's unique gift, EG. Everytime I think we disagree, it turns out he's always connecting the fantasy impact, and I'm just looking at raw talent. He has a big brain like that. Wolfe :wub:Underestimated ;)

That's why he's staff.

Granted it was vs Ms Marys school for the deaf and blind, But "The Wolfe" ran for 350 and 3 today.

Kid is the real deal.
