Gates injury news (1 Viewer)

Gates is a beast from head to ankle. But, has extremely weak toes.
Tough to start a guy with a bad wheel. If he plays, he will just be used as a decoy.
Thanks, Stephania. How does one know this without intimate knowledge of the situation? You may be right, but wouldn't that be more due to speculation than actual ff acumen? :goodposting:
a lot of ####### comments this time of year on this MB
Relax, it wsa a reference to Stephania Bell calling CJ a likely decoy last week, only for him to post great numbers. This place is as it ever was - and I only questioned whether the "decoy" label came from real knowledge or speculation.
sorry, but the idea that the decoy label is based on "real knowledge" really makes me laugh...are you suggesting that perhaps Norv Turner has announced somewhere that Gates will be used as a decoy? let's think about that for a second....

Speculation on this one is way too quiet. All I see is a practice report from yesterday and another from today saying he didnt practice. No beat writer speculation or anything. Strange for such a big time player and considering SD is 2-4 and in a must win situation.

:goodposting:What else is there to talk about? It's a wait and see thing. If he can't go tomorrow it'll look bad for his chances of playing on Sunday.Gates has played with worse injuries before in the playoffs, but I don't know that they'll want to risk making things worse if he's not ready to go. I don't think this is a must win game for them either. 8-8 might win the AFC West.

I don't think the Chargers are going to bank on that being the case. I see this as a must-win like many others.

I for one hope he sits. I'd rather have 1-2 weeks of no production than 5 of him in my starting lineup as a decoy who can't separate.

I personally don't think the Chargers would risk injury to Gates down the stretch and put him in as a "decoy". That's would be a dumb move on their part and I don't buy into the logic. Just like I didn't buy into it when people said if Calvin took the field last Sunday he would just be a decoy, only to go for 146 and a score. However, I do agree with you in the sense that I hope they sit him for this week so that he can get back to 100%, rather then be 80-90% the rest of the season. Mind you gates 80-90% is better than most TE's best days, but I would love him to be able to keep putting up the numbers he has since week 1.

 Ideally you win them all, and I know the Chargers will do their best. But it's not panic time for them yet, and they're not going to go risk long term negative consequences just to try and win Sunday. That's all I'm saying there.

I think Gates will play - but that's just my personal opinion based on how he's handled these things in the past. I'll feel less good about that if he does absolutely no work tomorrow, but I don't think we'll know for sure until game time in that case regardless.

All that said, I'll probably start Gresham over Gates this week in the one league I have him. Even if he plays, I think he'll be limited - like when they played the Pats in the AFC Championship 2 years ago.

This being one of them?
do you or the other poster have an indisde info on Gates being a decoy? if not why post it.

The 4pm really sucks, gonna have to bench him and play Kellen Winslow. No good 4pm options available, gotta take someone who is garanteed to play. No andre, arian, or antonio this week. Arg.

Since he has never missed a game due to injury, and he's been hurt worse than this, there shouldn't be much doubt that he'll play on Sunday.

Here are the 4PM or after options that you may have available on your WW or cheap trade:

McMichael

Hernandez

Gronkowski

Carlson

Quarless

Lee

Shiancoe

Boss

I guess this is kind of a WDIS start question but may be relevant to a lot of people with GTD at 4. What kind of stats are we projecting for McMichael if Gates is out?

I worry about starting an injured Gates over someone like Hernandez or Gaffney (in te eligible leagues) but the guy is stud and with both Floyd and Nanee hurt and playing against the Patriots, I am going to put him in if he suits up. There is always a risk he reaggravates the injury but after sitting Calvin last week with that concern, I'm not doing it again.

From Rotoworld...

Antonio Gates (toe, questionable) returned to practice on Friday.Gates didn't practice last week, yet still dropped four catches, 50 yards, and a touchdown on the Patriots. The increased participation indicates that he's getting healthier. Gates will start Sunday's game against Tennessee.Source: San Diego Union-Tribune
Great news that he's practicing again, I didn't expect that this week. Looks like he will definitely play this week. Oh and I know this isn't the ACF, but don't trade Gates for Thomas Jones, come on.
