GB's Nick Barnett on Buffalo RB's (1 Viewer)

The Bills have downplayed any trade talk, but it was a topic of discussion among Packers fans and in the locker room.

“I’d love to have (Lynch) as a running back, but it depends on what the expense is,” Packers linebacker Nick Barnett said. “They’ve got some good backs. We’re going to steal one of those guys, hopefully.”

not exactly a vote of confidence towards brandon jackson
If Ted Thompson cared about what his own players wanted he would have brought in Moss when he was available. That being said, BJax was practically invisible while the Packers were building up a huge lead in the second half. To me that says a lot more about the Packers feeling than what Barnett says. The problem is Thompson is a notorious tightwad with his draft picks. I'll be surprised if he gives up what the Bills want for Lynch.

Well it's certainly a good thing he didn't do that.

Packers fans might be able to correct me if I'm wrong, but in addition to trading for Ryan Grant and talks with Randy Moss, didn't Ted Thompson also have a deal in place for Tony Gonzalez a couple years ago that the Chiefs ultimately bailed on? One thing is for sure, Brandon Jackson didn't make the most of a golden opportunity today and cold weather games are on the horizon in GB which should make the RB situation even more important. Do we really think TT will stand pat on this one? As a Jackson owner, I'm expecting the worst.

Historically that has been the case but I think this year is different. The Packers are deep and poised to make a Super Bowl run. I think Thompson will make a move at some point during the season. Not only is Jackson mediocre he's injury prone as well and they have absolutely no-one behind him.

Yes. The Packers had drawn up the paperwork and sent it to the Chiefs to have them sign off on the trade which would have been a third-round pick for Gonzalez. The Chiefs countered 10 minutes before the deadline and said they wanted a 2nd-round pick. Thompson refused and that was that. The Packers were a Super Bowl contender that season and Thompson didn't part with a top pick to land a future Hall of Famer at a clear area of need at the time. That's why I'm not convinced he'll part with a top pick now to address a clear area of need and get Lynch. It's not like today's performance by Jackson came as a surprise. At least it should not have. Brandon Jackson looked like Brandon Jackson today. If the Packers thought enough of him to keep only him and Grant at halfback to enter the season they must see something in him that few others are or have. So while a Lynch trade makes way too much sense, I'm not convinced Thompson will make a radical departure from his usual method of behavior and pull the trigger on a deal. Anything's possible, of course, but it would surprise me.

The gonzo offer was in 2008. They were not a contender that year.

You're right. That was the first post-Favre season. I was thinking it was Favre's last year. My primary point still stands, though - it would be a significant break from the norm for Thompson to part with a top draft pick in a trade.

At this point in a season...sure. He gave up quite a few for Clay Matthews.

Just too much chatter that the bills aren't offering him at this point anyway.

lol at thinking nick barnett has any say, or any idea, what the franchises' strategy is. realize that barnett is one of the lowest ppl on the totem pole of decision making. to clarify further, rodgers is only slightly ahead of him.
