He has had one of the most unusual leading-man careers. He doesn't look the part, nor act the part.

Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor seem to bring out the best in him--although both men put him in some atrocious movies.

I assume Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles will run away with this, but my money's on Stir Crazy.

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Sex deserves a mention here.

But I have to go with Willy Wonka. That's his most iconic role, and one of THE most iconic roles ever.

Zero Mostel owns "The Producers" from start to finish (except when **** Shawn is on-screen). Wilder's Leo Bloom is nebbishish even by Wilder standards but it's my favorite movie on the list by far.

Zero owned most movies he was in.

Young Frankenstein. Marty Feldman was so great.

"Eye-Gor, what was the name on that brain you took??"

"Abby-something"

"Abby-something?"

"Abby Normal, that was it."

My favorite of that group is Blazing Saddles but he didn't really "carry" that movie. So it came down to Wonka and Young Frankenstein.

Voted Wonka because he is that movie.

so many great scenes from him.

I'm cracking up now just thinking of the scene in "See No Evil" where Wilder (deaf) thinks the guy on the street is cussing him out, so he starts talking #### back to the guy, and Pryor (blind) thinks he's talking to him so he starts freaking out and fighting the air. so great.

and he makes the role, and the movie work; one of my all-time favorite roles and performances. I love the Mel Brooks movies, but he gives a better performance in Wonka.

Willy Wonka is without question one the best performances ever. He's like five different personalities taking turns coming to the surface and you don't know what's real until the end. #### is he good in that movie. All the other actors are below average, it was like Lebron James playing with middle schoolers. Still love that movie though.

Willy Wonka marathon today on Sundance.

Haven't watched it since I was a young kid. Cool to see the exact scene where that meme comes from.

I think Willy Wonka was his best role. Simply an all-time Hollywood icon performance.

But the question was "favorite", and imho Young Frankenstein was filled with so much comic genius. Everyone involved was at the top of their game - especially Wilder.

I never know how to vote for these things. Is the question favorite movie that had Gene Wilder in it? Or the movie with the favorite role that featured Gene Wilder? If it's the first one, then Young Frankenstein or Blazing Saddles. If it's two, then Willy Wonka.
