What's up with this guy? Finished like gangbusters last year and got off to a solid start with 7 solos in Week 1. Since then, solos have declined in each game.
Is he getting less PT? Teams running away from him?

I'll add in the concern that his last 2 opponents were pitt.+cinc. both teams that usually result in big tackle opportunities 8 total tackles is pretty weak for those games.

Normally yes they are but watching the game after 3qtrs, Cincy only had about 16 carries, I know Benson finished with 20+ but perhaps Tampa was playing a different defense early? Barrett Ruud who is a very consistent tackler also had a pedestrian type game. Hopefully this does not continue.
Jene, interesting thoughts today on the TB front 7. What about Hayes, how do you see his performance related to the opportunity and DL performance over the last 2 weeks?

I was primarily watching Ruud, but some of the same issues apply to Hayes.I think there's plenty of room for improvement with Hayes. He's still on pace for 80 solos despite the so-so three solo effort last week, the same number he finished with last season. He's out-tackled Ruud and six of his 21 solos have been TFLs. It's also worth noting that the Bucs are seeing 6.5 fewer tackle opportunities per game than last season.Hayes was certainly impressive at times last year, but I don't think he deserved the top 25 ranking/expectation some had for him this year. He's more Cato June/Clint Session than Derrick Brooks/Lance Briggs/Thomas Davis.85 solos is a reasonable high-end projection for him and he'll have a bunch of 2-4 solo games on his way to that number. Seven of his 16 games last season fell in that range. Only one of his first four games this year has been four or fewer, so there's still reason to consider him a solid, if not spectacular LB3.
