How can you pass on Eric Steinbach and Boss Bailey for Sammy Davis!?!?
Don't you mean, "How can you pass on Steinbach and Bailey for Da Raidahs?" Personally, I'd rather see them take Henderson, but I know Al Davis loves the athletic guys.

See what happens when I publish my prognostications? At least I'm doing better than Kiper.

I know there are a number of picks in between (Oakland on the clock) but if one of the top LBs or even a good DB falls to NO in the second their draft will have to rate out as one of the best so far. Just getting a high second in that deal was a work of art for the Saints. If nothing else this draft is very interesting.

Boss Bailey may be worse in coverage than Rodney Harrison, and he definitely doesn't tackle as well, so drafting him as a SS wouldn't make sense for the Chargers. And the only linebacker position he can play in a 4-3 is WLB -- but the Bolts already have an undersized linebacker who struggles to shed blocks in Donnie Edwards. I don't see any way Bailey could help the Chargers. (Well, maybe on special teams . . .)

Chargers take Sammy Davis. Maybe not the best athlete available, but it does fill the biggest area of need.
Too true Maurile - the Chargers did need a CB more than a WLB. Might have gotten a decent one in the mid-second though. I just hope the Raiders don't pick Bailey or Henderson.

This reminds me of the worst kind of amateur fantasy draft where all the draft participants are neurotic and inexperienced, and pick for need or follow runs incessantly eg a ludicrous run on DTs with excessive trading up in order to acquire them, followed by some terrible picking for need eg RB Larry Johnson.

QUOTE (MiniDitka @ Apr 26 2003, 03:43 PM) did sherman just call barnett the top rated LB in the draft??????? Obviously he was on the Packers' board.
I'm not watching the draft, but I believe that Barnett is an Strong Side Linebacker and Boss Baily is a Weak Side LB.

The Chiefs have major needs on D. Granted, there is some doubt over Priest's recovery but it strikes me that taking a RB in the first round is a major over-compensation.

You would think they would try to trade down and still get him. But it seems a lot of teams would like to trade down.

I can see the Raiders picking Baily, but not Henderson. The don't need an ILB, got Nap last year.

Lol @ the predictions coming to a grinding halt. We all pretty much have just given up and realize that this has to be the biggest smokescreen draft of recent memory. There are no predictables.

Rome just said on his commercial, the only sure thing about the Draft is that the Jets will hate there pick! I think they will like it this year!!!4 New York DEWAYNE ROBERTSON (from Chicago)

The lack of quality picks that teams are getting for trading down out of the mid and late first round re-inforces what I've read that after Kennedy was off the board, the talent level really dropped. I'm guessing there wasn't alot of teams wanting to trade into the late first.

Al Davis is taking his full 30 minutes to pick. It's good to see that at least one thing in this draft has been predictable.

My daughter took over the television set, and is now watching some movie showing (I think) Ted Danson in a cowboy outfit with a bear...Anyway, are the Raiders taking 30 minutes for their two picks?

Arrrggg. That entire current player thing is horrible. I cant believe people complain about Berman when you have Romo on the screen for 3 solid minutes.

Barnett is indeed a strong side linebacker, and it appears that's where the Packers will use him as well. According to some notes I was taking before the draft:"Now that the 24-year-old Diggs is in the fold, the Packers have to decide whether to keep him at his current strong-side position or move him to the weak side. That decision will probably depend on whom the Packers acquire to fill their final starting linebacker position. Free agent Hannibal Navies is scheduled to start at middle linebacker. (http://www.jsonline.com/packer/news/mar03/129386.asp)"But I still think Henderson would have been a better pick as Navies is also been working at the strong-side position. Again, my notes:"Sherman said linebacker Hannibal Navies has been working mostly at the strong-side position — not middle linebacker — during workouts with position coach Mark Duffner. Navies, a free-agent signee from Carolina, has played all three linebacker positions during his pro career but originally was believed to be signed as a replacement for departed middle linebacker Hardy Nickerson. Sherman said there is a chance Na’il Diggs will move from strong-side to weak-side linebacker to replace Nate Wayne, who was cut last month. (http://www.packersnews.com/archives/news/p...k_9904581.shtml)"So, I guess the Pack will not go after Derrick Rodgers after all and may be looking for a MLB later in the draft; perhaps Terry Pierce (who worked out for the Packers a few weeks ago) or Gerald Hayes.

The movie will be over by the time they pick...BTW, Ted marries the Bear...

Yet, with all of the value left on the boards, I can't imagine SOMEONE not wanting to jump up on something now.

I second that esp. with Oakland on the clock. Also for some reason my puter is crawling today.

Why take the whole half hour? Are they just now breaking down tape or something?
Marketing. This is still a business. It keeps the "heads" on TV stuck on the topic of the Raiders for a solid 30 minutes. One might think that some of the teams early on would have done the same thing. SB premature drafting.

Al has got to be shopping the picks, but far be it for me or anyone else to correctly predict this draft.
